Savour the poison

Teh tarik story...

Teh or tea is a favourite drink among Malaysians. Teh Tarik or Pulled Tea  is first introduced by the 'Mamak'(Indian muslim) restaurants. Now, drinking teh tarik has become our Malaysian culture. Only the mamaks know how to prepare this drink up to the expectations of the customers. They expect the teh tarik to be thick, creamy and moderately sweet. It's a mixture of dark tea plus sweet creamer. Then the'll pull the tea in a very artistic way . They'll do this repeatedly until the tea becomes frothy. My hubby is one of the fans of teh tarik. I used to remind my hubby about the authenticity of the tea used in teh tarik. the colour is dark brown and fake. I have read a lot about tea. Tea is not supposed to be of that colour. It should be green or pale yellow. I believe it is mixed with other ingredients that could be poisonous and hazardous to the health in long term. But people are so addicted to it so they can't be bothered about the details of it.

this is how the frothy teh tarik looks like...but look at the colour...real tea is not supposed to look like that..so you can imagine the alien things added to the tea...
this is how the teh tarik is pulled to give the frothy effects...

Recently I read an article in the papers about a group of scientist doing some research on teh tarik. The results were overwhelming. The tea used in teh tarik is of the lowest grade mixed with wood chips! Therefore it is toxic and poisonous. This scares the hell out of me. Now my hubby is slowing down on the intake and could accept the fact that teh tarik would be his last choice, hopefully...

A documentary aired on AFC last night, added to my fear. I love cooking & baking especially cakes and desserts. What was on air last night makes me more careful about the things I cook and eat. It's about the fat, sugar & carbohydrates in our food. I want to live my life to the fullest... in good health. I can still bake but I gotta cut them up and distribute them to friends and family...hahaha. I'm also slowing down my cooking hobby especially cooking fatty food. Then, suddenly I got an idea..why not I go on cooking and share some healthy recipes with friends and family.

            Happy cooking and happy eating!
