Although built for the military use, civilian domestic scheduled flights were conducted from the time of its completion. During the Soviet era, airport handled maximum 0.7 million passengers annually. Upon break up of Soviet Union, city of Kuybyshev reverted to its original name Samara. Airport gained international status in 1992. Almost 2.5 million passengers used the airport in 2014. New terminal was completed by December 2014. |
