Modern Air was started by Derick Gunning in l989 with a Piper Arrow IV (G-BONC) with the aim of providing a higher standard of aircraft than normally available for self-fly rental.
The concept was successful and the fleet grew rapidly. Anna and Christine helped to establish Fowlmere Flying Club, a wholly owned subsidiary of Modern Air. PPL training commenced in 1991 and continued through to April 2002 with 84 students completing their PPL training at Fowlmere. Further training continues and many past students and new members proceed to obtain their IMC, multi-engine and night ratings.
