NH4 We were sent this as Sywell, which its not. Best bet is that its Blackpool, G-ADDI used to do the round the tower pleasure flights. Anyone know for sure? – atchistory

G-ADDI is actually a dH Dragon, not a Rapide. Jumped out of it over Thruxton in 1966; since sold to the USA, I believe.

Further to my previous posting, The Dakota is not British united livery, but in fact is Silver City, which was formed in 1946, but only operated Blackpool from sometime esrly 1950’s until its takeover by British United Airways in 1962, so guess photo is indeed sometime early 1950’s

Hello, I can confirm EGNH Blackpool as the location, control tower is distinct, but aircraft in background is a DC3 Dakota in British United Airways livery.
British United Airways took over Silver City Airways and their Dak Fleet in January 1962 and ceased operations at Blackpool on formation of British United Island Airways in November 1968, so the photo is not as old as it would appear.
Yes De-Havilland Rapides were used as pleasure flying at Blackpool, but they ceased operating in the late 1950’s
