An EasyJet flight en route from London to Akureyri, Iceland has initiated a turnaround and is presently on diversion to Edinburgh.
EasyJet flight U28849, an Airbus A320 operating from London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Akureyri International Airport (AEY), Iceland executed a turnaround from the overwater crossing and is making a diversion to Edinburgh.

The EasyJet scheduled flight U28849 was near the Faroe Islands en route to the Iceland destination when it executed the turnaround and elected to divert to Edinburgh. It is understood that a technical issue has prompted the return this morning.
The flight continues under normal operating procedures and has not declared an emergency in this instance.

A NOTAM is currently active for Akureyri International Airport (AEY) in the event of a volcanic eruption.

EasyJet flight U28849 has now landed Edinburgh Airport (EDI) following this morning’s diversion.
Today’s rotation was conducted by Airbus A320-214 registered G-EJCJ; a 12-year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier EasyJet.
Data for the flight shows that the scheduled service made an on-time departure out of London Gatwick Airport (LGW) at 07:28 UTC, and established on the northerly route for Iceland.
The flight proceeded normally en route, climbing to FL340 (34,000 feet) before executing a turnaround at approximately 09:00 UTC and returning for a landing at Edinburgh (EDI).

EasyJet flight U28849 diverted to Edinburgh due to a technical issue this morning, which is subsequently being rectified. The flight will then continue for the destination of Akureyri.
