Indonesian Students Excel in National German Language Olympiad, Heading for International Stage

Two talented students from Palembang and Yogyakarta have earned the honor of representing Indonesia at the prestigious International German Language Olympiad, following their outstanding performances at the national competition organized by the Goethe Institut.

The Goethe Institut’s National German Language Olympiad has spotlighted two exceptional Indonesian students, showcasing their linguistic talents and preparing them for the international arena.

Kheiren Valentine Husnafsky from SMA Ignatius Global School Palembang and Sebastian Dikko Daniswara from SMAN 3 Yogyakarta emerged as the top two champions at the national level, earning their spots to compete globally.

Kheiren, who studied German at school and self-learned through online platforms, aspires to continue her studies in Germany and pursue her passion for classical music.

Sebastian, the second-place winner, has a strong affinity for German culture and language. His additional efforts in learning through courses reflect his dedication and broader understanding of the language beyond school education.

Both students have distinct goals for participating in the Olympiad. Kheiren aims to explore educational opportunities in Germany, while Sebastian seeks to immerse himself in German culture and contribute to Indonesia’s progress upon his return.

The International German Language Olympiad, scheduled in July 2024 in Göttingen, Germany, will see Kheiren and Sebastian compete with about 100 students from 50 countries, offering them an opportunity to experience cultural exchange and intellectual challenge.

The success of these Indonesian students highlights the growing interest and proficiency in foreign languages in the region. Their participation in the International Olympiad demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to promoting language learning and cultural exchange, fostering global connections.
