The Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) in Nassau, Bahamas will remain operational today and tomorrow as Tropical Storm Nicole is not expected to pose a significant threat to the island of New Providence.
“The latest information from the Bahamas Meteorological Department shows that Tropical Storm Nicole has shifted northward and away from New Providence. As such, LPIA will continue operations on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 should there be no significant change in the current path of Tropical Storm Nicole. LPIA and its stakeholders continue to be advised by the Bahamas Meteorological Department and will provide continued updates on airport operations,” the Nassau Airport Development Company said.
Elsewhere, the Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation (MOTIA) said operations at 11 airports in the northwest island chain will suspend their operations from tonight and remain closed until Thursday, 10 November.
The affected airports are:
· Andros: San Andros Airport (SAQ)
· Abaco: Treasure Cay Airport (TCB), Leonard M. Thompson International Airport (MHH), Sandy Point Airport (YAS), Moorse Island Airport (MYAO)
· The Berry Islands: Great Harbour Cay Airport (GHC)
· Bimini: South Bimini Airport (BIM)
· Grand Bahama: Grand Bahama International Airport (GBIA)
· Eleuthera: Rock Sound Airport (RSD), Governor’s Harbour Airport (GHB), North Eleuthera Airport (ELH)
MOTIA said operations at the closed airports will resume once they are given the all clear by the Bahamas Department of Meteorology
