The estate was founded by former wine-broker Fernándo Remírez de Ganuza in 1989, when he acquired top-quality plots in Rioja Alavesa. Today, vineyard holdings of the company covers six different locations and total more than 80 hectares (200 acres), a majority of which is planted to Tempranillo, Viura and Malvasia. The Remírez de Ganuza is the flagship wine of the portfolio, produced from Tempranillo and complimented with Graciano, Viura and Malvasia. Grape bunches are sorted and seperated into shoulder and tips prior to fermentation which is an incredibly labour intensive process. It is fermented in both stainless steel and French oak vats prior to 26 months of barrel-aging.
