#Frontex recently provided training on tactical casualty care and occupational health safety for the Lebanese border authorities. The aim was to raise the level of readiness of authorities at the airport when dealing with emergency security events. The training was concluded with a scenario exercise at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut. The training was organised within the framework of EU4BorderSecurity project, which aims at enhancing border security in the Southern Mediterranean region, particularly North Africa and the Levant.

Happy International Children’s Day!🥳 We all want our children to be safe and happy, but we also know that for many children it is far from being true. In the law enforcement sector, we bear the obligation and the responsibility to take special care of the children who cannot count on their parents, guardians, or state authorities to offer protection and secure their rights and wellbeing. At #Frontex, we know that criminals target children as easy victims and use borders to smuggle and exploit them far away from their homes or families. That’s why we are deeply committed to offering protection and safety to the youngest travellers where we can: at our borders. “We want to include border guards and train as many of them as possible to spot all suspicious situations concerning the children on the move and at risk of trafficking,” explains Razvan Budeanu, Head of Law Enforcement Sector a.i. at Frontex. “Borders may be one of the few places where well-trained officers can spot and identify potential victims and protect them before the crime occurs. We should also strive and join border forces with police forces, so that no child falls victim of exploitation rings and all children receive appropriate support starting at the border and after crossing it.” Since 2015, Frontex prioritises children on the move. Its series of VEGA handbooks: children at airports, children at land borders, and children at sea borders constitutes a compendium of knowledge and reference for all border guards to assist vulnerable travellers, spot any signs of distress or potential crime and act accordingly. “Over the years, we have gained more experience to share in those handbooks, which are free and publicly available to all border forces in Europe and in the world. We would like to raise awareness of their existence,” informs Razvan. Frontex does not stop there. The Law Enforcement Sector has recently held the first meeting of the Focus Group on Trafficking against Human Beings, where the VEGA Children is identified as a top priority initiative. Together with Frontex operational, training, and analytical units, the Fundamental Rights Office and the Consultative Forum, the agency has set a clear objective: all hands on board to eliminate all gaps in the system that may be used by the criminal rings to exploit our children. A thorough update to the handbooks is to be expected as an important part of awareness-raising and knowledge-sharing. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dvZcny3f

Happy Statehood Day, Croatia! 🇭🇷 🙋♂️ To mark the occasion, our colleague Zelimir from Frontex 24/7 Operations Centre shares his story: 🤝 “My story with Frontex started 11 years ago. At first, I participated in Frontex working groups, meetings and trainings as an expert from the Croatian National Coordination Centre. A real change came in 2019, when I came to work in Frontex 24/7 Operation Centre. 🎯 “I genuinely enjoy working in a multinational environment, with such highly skilled and experienced professionals. Especially when the goal is so immensely important, like in case of our maritime surveillance. Every detection of vessels in emergency rapidly increases chances of saving human lives. 🎇 "On the 30th of May, Croatians celebrate Statehood Day and Armed Forces Day. For us it is important date, as many of us lived and remember 1990 and the constitution of the first modern multi-party Croatian Parliament. 💞 "Like for most of Croatians, family is very important to me. Coming to Warsaw, living together, and seeing them happy every day, gives me inner strength. Croatians also like to celebrate our national successes. The most recent occasion was two weeks ago, when our musician Baby Lasagna won the 2nd place in the Eurovision contest. It makes me proud to be Croatian, especially when living abroad.” 👮♀️👮 40 #Frontex officers work in Croatia currently, supporting land borders and return activities.
