Mat rempit smashes cop’s face with his helmet at roadblock in Ipoh

A police officer holding down roadblock duties in Ipoh last night had his face smashed in by a helmet, swung by a motorcyclist attempting to flee PDRM inspection.

The 9.30pm incident, which took place along Jalan Raja Nazrin Shah, saw the 27-year old mat rempit and his 16-year old female pillion rider trying to force an illegal U-turn in order to avoid the roadblock.

The victim, a PDRM constable, had tried to stop the motorcycle from fleeing the scene and subject it to a routine inspection.

The New Straits Times Online‘s Seri Nor Nadiah Koris reports that when the constable grabbed onto the fleeing motorcycle, the rider struck the officer’s hand, jumped off his bike, and swung at the officer with his helmet, hitting him in the face.

The mat rempit also kicked the police officer several times, while yelling profanities at him.

Both the motorcyclist and his pillion rider were apprehended by other police officers on duty at the roadblock.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the incident was being investigated under Section 322 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous harm.
