Learn about SAP's new localization for foreign trade in Brazil. SAP Global Trade Services, edition for SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA, public and private editions

Hello,

Foreign trade plays a key role in the global economy, allowing companies around the world to expand their business beyond their borders. In Brazil, the logistics processes of import and export of goods and commodities are famous for being complex and well regulated, and the calculation of taxes and communication with the integrated system of the Brazilian government (Siscomex) make this operation something unique compared to other countries.

With this in mind, SAP has localized SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) for Brazil together with SAP S/4HANA, with the purpose of being a powerful tool for simplifying and optimizing import and export processes for Brazil. Let’s explore the features and benefits of this solution, as follows.

  • Product Classification

Classifying products correctly in the foreign trade process is of vital importance, as it’s on this basis that tariffs, restrictions, and controls are branched out by the authorities. The new localization of SAP GTS is prepared to be the point of entry of this information, making transparent to the customer and the Brazilian government what goods are in transit during business transactions.

  • Calculation of Foreign Trade Taxes

Some details differentiate the foreign trade process from domestic transactions in Brazil, and the tax calculation is one of them. Focusing on simplification, the localization of SAP GTS is integrated in an automated way with the tax calculation partner through the External Tax Calculation Engine of SAP S/4HANA. This authorized SAP partner is ready to receive the requests and respond in real time to the information needed to speed up the process. From this functionality, companies can reduce the possibilities of manual calculation errors, avoiding tax penalties.

  • Communication with the Sistema Portal Único Siscomex (PUCOMEX)

One of the most important steps within the logistics process of foreign trade is the electronic communication with the Siscomex system, which is responsible for the customs control of the Brazilian government. The localization of SAP GTS provides all necessary information for the dispatching partner to generate the files for the export declaration (DU-e) and the import declaration (DI). Through this communication, companies avoid manual processes during customs clearance and minimize delays in import and export operations.

  • Import Nota Fiscal Generation Based on Import Declaration

An important feature for foreign trade is the automatic generation of the import nota fiscal based on the import declaration. With SAP S/4HANA integrated with SAP GTS, the process of issuing nota fiscal is simplified as the relevant data is imported directly from the customs declaration. This avoids the need for rework and reduces manual errors, providing greater agility and compliance in the billing process. It is also possible to generate shipment notas fiscais based on the information contained in the import nota fiscal. The split criteria can also be configurable, such as the container number.

Agility and integration are key words when talking about the benefits of the localization of SAP Global Trade Services together with SAP S/4HANA for Brazil. The reduction of errors due to the automation of tax calculation processes, the generation of the nota fiscal and the communication with the authorities together with partners during the whole process, bring important benefits to help companies with the customs authorities, enabling a fast and accurate import or export process.

These features are available with SAP Global Trade Services, edition for SAP HANA version 2023 integrated with the following products:

  • SAP S/4HANA, public edition (2302) for import and export scenarios.

  • SAP S/4HANA, private edition (2021) for export scenarios.
