Foz do Iguaçu Airport serves one of the most important regions for tourism in the country. According to a survey by the Ministry of Tourism, the destination is the second most sought-after for Nature Tourism in Brazil, according to a survey by the Ministry of Tourism in 2021. AIRPORT HISTORY

The 1930s
1933 - Intending to build an airfield in Foz do Iguaçu, in mid-1933, negotiations began to acquire appropriate land. In addition to the strategic factor, the purpose presented and recognized was the establishment of a Military Air Mail line that would cover the region of Foz do Iguaçu and Guaíra.
1935 - The inaugural landing of the airfield was carried out in 1935 in a training apparatus, biplane, two places and uncovered, piloted by Captain Hortêncio, coming from Campo Grande.

The 1970s
1970 - The small airfield with a dirt runway could not grow or receive larger aircraft. It was necessary to innovate, and soon the construction began. Located on Avenida das Cataratas, Foz do Iguaçu International Airport was opened in the early 1970s, with a new passenger terminal, with approximately 5,000 square meters of covered area.
1974 - In 1974, the Foz do Iguaçu – Cataratas International Airport became the responsibility of Infraero.

The 1980s
1982 - The then presidents of Brazil, João Figueiredo, and Paraguay, Alfredo Stroessner, inaugurated the Itaipu hydroelectric plant on November 5, 1982.
1986 - A new renovation began in 1986 to expand the passenger terminal, which, due to tourism, became saturated.
1989 - After the work, the airport had 13,400 square meters of covered area, inaugurated on May 3, 1989.

The 2010s
2012 - In a difficult dispute with more than 400 natural attractions from all over the world, on 05/25/2012, the Cataratas do Iguaçu were elected one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.
To accompany the region's growth, in March 2012, a new renovation and expansion of the Foz do Iguaçu - Cataratas International Airport began, completed in May 2014, with new departure and arrival lounges, in addition to the modernization of the passenger terminal and its equipment.

The 2020s
2021 -The 6th Round of Airport Concessions is held by the Federal Government, in which the CCR Group purchased the airports in the South and Central Groups, including Foz do Iguaçu Airport.
