Russia targeted the Kiev, Khmelnytskyi and Kirovohrad regions in today's second missile attack on Ukraine, and the head of Ukraine's air force said the barrage was repelled, Reuters reports.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk said on Telegram that anti-aircraft units shot down 36 targets - three Kalibr cruise missiles and 33 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.
A later statement said that information was still being gathered about the Kinzhal missiles that were also used in the attack.
"The day was difficult, but thanks to the joint work of everyone who defended the sky, we repelled this attack! Thanks to everyone," said Oleščuk.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Ukrainian forces achieved "very good results" on the front line and promised to provide details on their successes soon, reports Reuters.
"By the way, today our guys had very good results at the front," Zelenskiy said in his nightly video address.
"Good for them! Details will follow," said the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky has repeatedly said that the offensive launched by Ukrainian forces last month in the Russian-occupied east and southeast of the country is going slower than he would like.

Authorities in the western region of Khmelnytskyi confirmed the sound of explosions.
"We have registered high-speed targets, probably ballistic missiles, the enemy is using different types of weapons," Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ikhnat said in televised comments.
He said that some rockets were headed towards the city of Starokostiantinov, where the Ukrainian military airport is located.
He said the missiles took a very convoluted route, even turning 180 degrees at one point.
Ukraine's air defenses thwarted an earlier attack on Wednesday afternoon, shooting down two Kalibr cruise missiles over the central city of Vinnytsia that appeared to have been fired by a submarine in the Black Sea, the air force said, Reuters reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he will not tolerate corruption or betrayal in state affairs as his country struggles to find the means to defend itself against Russian invaders.
As reported by Reuters, he issued an appeal against corruption after two significant cases were revealed - the arrest of a military officer accused of massive embezzlement and a parliamentarian accused of cooperation with Russia.
He announced plans last month to overhaul the military's recruiting offices to try to stamp out corruption.
"No one will forgive MPs, judges, military or any other officials for creating opposition to the state," Zelenski said.
