Clive Owen to star in sci-fi thriller Anon

  • The Knick star Clive Owen has landed the lead role in the sci-fi thriller Anon. Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Good Kill) wrote and will direct the film, about a detective who stumbles onto a conspiracy in a world that has seemingly eliminated crime at the expense of personal privacy. Niccol is producing alongside Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur of K5 Film, which is also financing the project. [Deadline]
  • Jared Harris of Mad Men fame will appear opposite Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard in director Robert Zemeckis‘ to-be-titled spy thriller. Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) wrote the film, which is set during World War II and concerns a spy (Pitt) who falls for a French agent (Cotillard) while on assignment in North Africa.   • Toni Collette is the latest addition to the cast of XXX3: The Return of Xander Cage, the sequel bringing Vin Diesel back to the action franchise about an extreme-sports athlete who reluctantly moonlights as a spy for the NSA. The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Tony Jaa, Jet Li, Nina Dobrev, Deepika Padukone, and Ruby Rose. D.J. Caruso is directing the movie, which is to start shooting in the coming weeks.   • All Eyez on Me has found its Haitian Jack. American Sniper alum Cory Hardrict will portray the man born Jacques Agnant, a music manager with a tough reputation in the New York hip-hop scene, in the biopic about Tupac Shakur. Hardrict joins Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Shakur, Jamal Woolard as the Notorious B.I.G., and Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur. Benny Boom is directing the film, which will be distributed by Open Road.   • Rebecca Ferguson, the breakout star of Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, is set to star in the sci-fi film Life. The story follows a space station crew who retrieve a sample from Mars that shows signs of intelligent life. Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) is directing, and Deadpool duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese penned the script. Skydance is producing. [Variety]
