There are 8 Standing Committees in Sibu Municipal Council in making relevant policies for community in Sibu. After joining this network, Sibu Municipal Council would like to learn about mechanism to enhance existing policies, programmes or even the infrastructures that could be more age friendly not only for general communities but also for older persons.

Sibu Municipal Council is also specifically discussing the above mentioned subject in Social and Community Development Committee so that all issues can be properly and better addressed. On top of that, this meeting will also look into the relevancy of improvement all planning of programmes align with Sustaible Development Goals under purview of Ministry Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak.Currently, all councillors are assigned to monitor the municipal services delivery according to warding system. There are 14 wards at the current structure.

Council is collaborating with motivated older persons associations such as Canna Enoch Elderly Association Sibu (Persatuan Warga Emas Enoch Sibu) in plenty of activities organised by Council. For example, there is a programme named Community Garden, an open area of 2,761 sq meters located at Kiew Nang 5C, Sibu was turned into a pilot project for a community garden. The community involved is the residents who live nearby. The collaborating partner for the community project is the Enoch Elderly Association Sibu. The Association had donated environment-friendly materials such as eco-bricks for plant borders. Apart from that, Council helped them by preparing garden sites, supplying EM Bokashi Compost Bins, compost from Green Market and also kitchen waste enzymes to fertilize plants. The project won 3rd place in the community Innowaste Competition during Sarawak State Public Service Innovation Month.
