THE BEST OPTION IN CAPE VERDE FOR A FUEL STOP: GVAC /SID

Sal Island, a good option to do a fuel stop in Cape Verde

Fuel stop GVAC /SID

Preparing a fuel stop is not only a question about the price of the fuel. There are many factors we have to check in order to choose the best option to refuel our aircraft.

When an aircraft is going to cross the Atlantic Ocean, most of companies choose Praia to do a fuel stop before starting the flight. However there is another good option that we can use in Cape Verde, this is Sal Island GVAC/SID.

The full name of this airport is Amílcar Cabral International Airport, but this is most known as Sal International Airport (ICAO code GVAC, IATA code SID). It is situated 235 km north of Praia. It is near Spargos town, the largest town in the island. Nevertheless, the most touristic place is Santa Maria, which is situated 20 km aprox to the south.

The airport has only one terminal. There is a runway 01/19 (there was a second runway but it is closed now). This runway’s 3272 metres long. Elevation 54m/177ft.

The weather is hot and dry. On average temperature is 25-26 degrees.

Operations Costs.

The price for fuel is one of the main thing that we have to check before preparing a fuel stop GVAC. It is cheaper in GVAC than GVNP (Praia). We can find approximately 2.42USD/USG in GVAC and 2.59USD/USG in GVNP.

You can check taxes prices list in ACC web

Handling is not mandatory

In addition, regarding the crew accommodation, there are many options to choose, from a 5 star hotel (aprox. 180 euros /night) to 3 star hotels (aprox. 80 euros/night).  They usually have availability and there is a good connection with the airport.

In order to fly to Cape Verde the operator needs a landing authorization and regarding coordinated airports, you need a slot coordination. In fact, from Iberosime FS, we can help you regarding these matters. We can get the permission quickly, not only for GVAC, also for GVNP.
