trein by die hawe afgelewer is, hul
griewe gelug.
11. Alle potensiële produkte wat stof
genereer moet gesif en chemies by
seile.
is.”
TRANSNAMIB

Pluimveebedryf
kan vlerke groei
› Elvira Hattingh
Terwyl pluimveevleis na verwagting teen 2031 meer as
die helfte van die wêreldwye
vleismark sal uitmaak, blyk
dit dat dieselfde tendense vir
eksponensiële groei in die
Namibiese mark waargeneem
kan word.
Die Namibiese pluimveebedryf
moet egter eers groot uitdagings
oorkom, soos die smokkel van
goedkoop produkte en beter
grensbeheer, terwyl hoë voerkoste ’n beduidende kwessie vir
produksie is.
Só gesels Louis Kleynhans, voorsitter van die Namibië Pluimveeprodusentevereniging,
asook algemene bestuurder van
Namibia Poultry Industry (NPI).
STATISTIEK
Kleynhans sê volgens statistiek
deur die vereniging, is tot
3 400 ton hoenderprodukte
nie heffings was nie. Owerhede
ondersoek tans die saak,” het hy
gesê.
Hy meen onwettige ingevoerde

destydse Suidwes-Afrikaanse Spoorweë (SAR) in Aus as klerk gewerk.
As jy die smalspoor in ’n
doringboom waar sy sinkhuis was
en nog so 300 meter verder het die
Lister-enjin gestaan wat water in
’n krip gepomp het.”
SAR het vir Fires gesorg en het
elke Woensdag 200 liter diesel
rantsoene dieselfde dag gekry.”
Pearson se verantwoordelikheid was
‘n outydse koelkamer. Ons het alles
op die pompwa gelaai en afgery na
Fires en sy familie toe. Daar het ons
onder die boom gebraai, gekuier en
uitgevind of alles nog reg is.”
Wanneer Fires of sy vrou Aus toe
Aus was in daardie tyd baie besig
Namibia Wild Horses Foundation
FOTO’S VERSKAF

Coetzee, who rustled up a superhuman effort to win the
last stage and the tour in its
entirety, called it one of the
highlights of his career.
Hinz, Coetzee crowned supreme victors
TIELMAN VAN LILL
The 2023 Pupkewitz MegaBuild
Tour de Windhoek racing cycle
tour, Namibia’s premier road
bike race, once again did not disappoint.
Melissa Hinz and Drikus ‘The
Machine’ Coetzee triumphantly
won their respective elite divisions
yesterday.
Coetzee, in particular, must have
come up with a superhuman effort
to win the last stage and the tour in
its entirety.
He told Namibia Media Holdings:
“This is definitely one of the highlights of my career and a performance that I am very proud of”.
With the five-kilometre prologue
last Thursday to determine the
wearers of the yellow jerseys for the
first stage, the South African men’s
teams already made their mark.
Hinz flew Namibia’s flag high, with
her team-mates from Simonis Storm
Powered by Hollard (SSPBH) short
on her rear wheel. Gustav Basson
of Team DMS won the elite men’s
division.
On Friday morning during the
first stage (109 km) on the Dordabis road, Basson had to give up the
yellow jersey when Brandon Downes
from TEG Procycling was crowned
victorious.
Hinz kept her golden garb after
Anri Krugel, her team-mate, beat
her over 80 km.
Coetzee and Krugel (both SSPBH)
won the polka-dot jersey when they
were named King of the Mountain
(KOM) for stage one.
Team time trial
The second stage on Friday afternoon at the Tony Rust race track
did not affect the positions yellowjersey wearers. TEG (23 minutes
15 seconds) won the competition
by two seconds against Tufo BMC
(13:17), with the Cymot A Team
(23:58) placing third. This stage is
contested over a distance six laps of
2.6 km each.
For the women, SSPBH (19:42) beat
Lema (20:14) and Cymot (22:33) over
a distance four laps of 2.6 km.
Meanwhile, during Saturday morning’s challenging third stage (117
km) on the C28 road and Western
Bypass, Coetzee turned on the gas
and won the stage in 2:55:30.55, with
Kimhan van der Merwe (Tufo BMC)
in 2:31:08 short on his heels. Downes
(third in 2:56.50) was obliged to relinquish his yellow jersey to Coetzee
while Hinz easily kept hers over
79km.
Kevin Lowe (Cymot A team) picked
up the KOM jersey, while Krugel successfully defended hers.
Stages 4 and 5
The fourth stage on Saturday afternoon from Pupkewitz MegaBuild
past the Snyman Sircle produced the
usual excitement for fans as teams
competed for points. Hinz and Coetzee’s yellow jerseys were once again
safe for the fifth stage on Sunday
morning on the Von Bach Dam road.
This stage over 53 and 77 kilometres respectively for the elite women
and men once again delivered superb
racing by Namibia’s Coetzee to
secure an excellent victory against
the professional South African
riders.
In the team competition, Tufo BMC
(22:15:29) won the division with
DMS (22:52:14) coming in second
and TEG (22:54.26) in third.
For the women, SSPBH dominated
in 19:48.52, while Lema (20:22.18)
finished second and Cycles4U
(21:02.18) third.
Melissa Hinz and Drikus Coetzee
are the individual winners of the
2023 Pupkewitz MegaBuild Tour de
Windhoek racing cycle tour.

Mangaanstof bly ’n kopseer
»Omgewingskommissaris swyg oor vrae
FOTO VERSKAF
Inwoners van Lüderitz het
sedert die eerste mangaanerts
in 2019 per trein by die hawe
afgelewer is, hul griewe gelug.

“Mangaanerts moet bedek wees
dorp gedoen.
plastiekdeksels.
Hoe
kan hulle aangaan ná so baie
klagtes?”

Munikonzo, in 2020 in Okahandjapark.
Die nadoodse ondersoek het
bevind dat Munikonzo 22 keer
met ’n mes gesteek en 15 keer
met ’n hamer geslaan is.
Nalise het tydens die verhoor
aangevoer dat hy niks van die
aanval op sy vrou kan onthou
nie.
weggekruip voordat hy homself
aan die polisie oorgegee het.
VERSINSEL
– toe hy haar liggaam in ’n
vermoor.
Nalise is ook skuldig bevind
op een klag van regsverydeling
omdat hy van die mes ontslae
geraak het wat tydens die moord
gebruik is.

Pluimveebedryf
Onder ’n boom in die woestyn
VAN BL. 2
Brasilië het toegang
tot markte waar daar ’n
premieprys op die beste
snitte betaal word, wat
beteken die res van die
hoender kan vir weggooipryse verkoop
word. Boonop geniet
lande soos hierdie ook
landbousubsidies. Dit
veroorsaak dat dit baie
moeilik is vir ander
lande om teen hulle
mee te ding.
“Daar kom baie vragte
met hoenderprodukte
by ons hawe aan – baie
geoormerk vir ons
buurlande of doeanebeheerde pakhuise.
Ons ervaring is egter
dat baie hiervan in die
plaaslike mark beland
en nie uitgevoer word
nie.”
Kleynhans sê die inkomende skeepsvragte
moet dikwels na lande
soos Zambië of Botswana gaan.
“Dit op sigself is verdag,
want dié lande se
grense is gesluit vir
invoere weens kwessies
soos voëlgriep.”
GROEI
is as wat amptelik
bereken word.
“Die mark moet nader
aan 6 000 ton wees,
wat beteken daar is
baie ruimte vir die uitbreiding van plaaslike
hoenderproduksie. Jy
kan amper nog ’n NPI
vestig,” meen hy.
Dienooreenkomstig
gradeer NPI ook op
die oomblik sy fabriek
op sodat daar binnekort 560 000 hoenders
per week geslag sal kan
word.
“Tans het ons die kapasiteit om 340 000
hoenders per week te
slag,” sê Kleynhans.
Hy sê daar is ook ander
rolspelers wat beplan
om die mark te betree
of om hul kapasiteit te
verbeter.
“Die plaaslike pluimveesektor vaar goed,
veral in terme van sy
produksievlakke en
moontlike uitbreidings,” sê hy.
“Boonop geniet die
pluimveebedryf goeie
ondersteuning van die
owerhede.”
Kleynhans sê terwyl die
groeiende pluimveemark gulde geleenthede vir SME-boere kan
bied, is voerkoste tans
’n enorme demper op
die bedryf.
“Ons sien dit in die
kuikenverkope. As die
voerpryse styg, daal
die verkope van eendagoue-kuikens en vice
versa.”
Kleynhans sê voer
maak nou 82% van ’n
braaihoenderboer se
insetkoste uit, waar dit
voorheen 68% was.
“Vervoerkoste maak
ook ’n groot deel
hiervan uit. As ons
daardie onkoste kon
aftrek, is ons produksiesyfers- en marksyfer
‘on par’ met ons SuidAfrikaanse eweknieë,”
het hy gesê.
Kleynhans sê ’n ideale
oplossing is die plaaslike produksie van voer
vir die hoenderbedryf.
“Gewoonlik is die
grootste probleem om
’n mark vir jou produkte te vind. Nie in ons
geval nie: Ons beskik
reeds oor ’n mark vir
hoender in ons eie
land, maar ons kan nie
die verbouing van die
produk doen nie. In die
noorde van die land het
ons die water en grond,
ons moet ons landbougrond hiervoor benut,”
het hy gesê.

› Kristien Kruger

COPPS 94.1 deel oor hoe
individue hulself kan beveilig,
en volgens die toerismereus
sal hierdie ook dien as
versekering dat Namibië wel
een van die veiligste lande in
Afrika is.
“Hierdie vennootskap is iets wat
ons glo sal ’n positiewe bydrae
tot die volhoubaarheid van die
toerismebedryf lewer deur te
dien as ’n platform waar ons
mense kan leer en bewusmaking
oor veiligheid kan handhaaf.
“Hierdie program lok talle

Volgens Clinton Hay, ’n senior dosent
vis voorkom.
Wel,
in ieder geval net energie sal verbruik.”
Die grotbaber blyk nou verwant te
wees aan die slangkop-baber wat in die
Kunene-, Kavango- en Zambezirivier
voorkom.
Karstland-akwifer onttrek.
so baie verskillende kleure. Gewoonlik
binne ’n paar weke volwasse, wanneer
ly.
gebiede. Daar is ook meer verskillende
spesies in dié gebiede.
die vis as proteïenbron gebruik.”
BEDREIGING
afkomstig is. Dit word vir akwakultuur
gebruik omdat dit baie vinnig groei. Om
dié rede is die vis oor die hele wêreld versprei. Hierdie visspesie is baie aggressief
gehad. Die visse het sere oraloor gekry
en die ministerie het mense verbied om
die vis te vang.”
Nog ’n indringer wat op die oomblik
groot probleme in riviere in Suider-Afrika
veroorsaak, is die Australiese rooiklou- of
varswaterkreef (Cherax quadricarinatus).
“Die kreef vreet onder andere dooie en
verrottende materiale.
half opgevreet is.

maar net nog ’n gewone nagrus;
sonder enige waarskuwing in ’n
verwoestende oomblik met die mag
van byna 36 Hirosjima-atoombomme geskud.
Die eerste bewing het 7,8 op die
Richterskaal gemeet. Nege ure later
was daar ’n opvolgsidder van 7,7.
Seismograwe het meer as 2 000
naskokke geregistreer.
Vandag kring sulke golwe feitlik
dadelik tot in ons voorhuise en
werksplekke. Dit kom skok en bewe
intiem in die palms van ons hande.
Meer as 46 000 mense het in
Turkye en Sirië omgekom.
Die afgryse bly by ons; in hart,
rommel fluit.
Indien ons, vir nou, ’n herinnering
van 6 Februarie 2023 het, hoe lank
sal hierdie geheue hou?
Hoe vinnig kwyn die moderne
mense se aandoening?
Tot dit onvermydelik deur nog ’n
ramp of tragedie verdring sal word.
In ’n proses wat homself eindeloos
herhaal.
Oor die oorlog in Oekraïne praat
baie van ons toenemend minder.
Vrydag is die eerste herdenking van
Rusland se inval; ’n konflik waarin
meer as ’n miljoen mense die wapen
teen mekaar opgeneem het, honderde duisende gedood of gewond
is en miljoene mense ontwortel is.
Aan die ekonomiese skokgolwe het
meer beskuttes en bevoordeeldes
hulself reeds gespeen?
Hoe gereeld yk
katastrofiese hipersensitiwiteit lei;
met psigopatiese afgestomptheid as
die uiterste teenpool.
Soms beskuldig ons mekaar van
“oorgevoeligheid”. Maar net wie,
of wat, bepaal waar die “gesonde”
tussen-in lê?
. . . tussenin begin en end
Word jy die speletjie ooit gewend
Of issit van begin tot end
Meer geluk as wysheid
Dajy hou toddie end?
Sukkel die mens nou, meer as ooit,
om die balans – en die begrip – van
die goue middeweg te vind?

Rom 1:20: “Van die skepping van die

van God duidelik aflei dat sy krag
ewigdurend is en dat Hy waarlik
God is. . .”
Ek hou van die ou Afro-Amerikaanse
geestelike liedjie wat soos volg
klink: “He’s got the whole world, in
his hands ... He’s got you brother,
sister, in His hands ... He’s got the
whole world in His hands.” Dis meer
as net ’n mooi liedjie.
vashou. Dit sien ook wie en wat Hy
in sy hande vashou: die mense en
die hele wêreld.
Paulus gee redes waarom alle
mense voor God verantwoordelik
is. Geen mens kan sê dat hy of sy
nie geweet het dat God bestaan nie
(1:20-21). Immers, kyk net rondom
jou. Kyk na die berge, die diere en
die see. Kyk na die voëls en die
blomme. Kyk na die mense rondom
jou. Kyk na jou ouers, kinders, man
of vrou. Francis Schaeffer was reg:
erken as God!
Here, ek eer U as die Skepper van

baie leerlinge.
BRIEWE Ek bedoel, as dit oor higiëne gaan,

in Pionierspark.
vroeë hoop gegee toe hy in sy eerste
enige ander kolwer kon behaal.
108 lopies.
Matawu (3/45 in 10 boulbeurte) kon
tevrede voel met sy boulwerk.

saam met die Namibiese Eagles in Nepal
toer – het nietemin ’n stewige antwoord
met die kolf gelewer.
Stephen Baard (175 van 143 balle, 17x4
4x6) het egter ’n alleenstryd gevoer. CCD
kon dalk selfs verras het indien hy enige
sterker steun gekry het as net Ramon
gevolg deur AMH Holdings WHS Old
Boys, CCD Tigers, Trusto United en
MR24/7 Welwitschia.
hele span vir ’n onbeholpe 39 lopies uitgeboul is.
Simon Shikongo se 10 was die enigste
dubbelsyfers teen Fortune Matawu
(4/10 in 10 bb) en die draaier Mauritius Ngupita (5/13 in 7.3).
’n Hoogste telling van 17 van Stephen
Baard was genoeg vir CCD om die
verspot klein totaal maklik te haal en
met agt paaltjies te wen.
Niko Davin het reeds drie honderdtalle
en meer as 600 lopies in agt wedstryde.

F
ive pharmaceutical companies
and one windscreen retailer
entered into respective settlement agreements with the Namibian
Competition Commission (NaCC)
after investigations into alleged anticompetitive behaviour concluded
that these entities were engaged in
exclusive dealings.
These agreements, which provide
a breakdown of the fines as well as
compliance requirements for the
concerned parties, were imposed
between November 2022 and January
2023. The settlement amounts
imposed on the five pharmacies are
a result of the Commission’s investigation which found that the Pharmaceutical Society of Namibia (PSN) and
close to 180 pharmacies contravened
the Namibian Competition Act, No.2
of 2003, through price fixing. In the
case of the windscreen retail sector,
windscreen retailer PG Glass was a respondent in the investigation regarding agreements between insurance
companies and some windscreen
suppliers. Both the pharmaceutical
companies and windscreen retailers’
cases are currently before the High
Court of Namibia for litigation, with
only one respondent remaining on
the windscreen matter.
In terms of Section 40 of the Namibian Competition Act, No. 2 of
2003, the commission is mandated
to enter into settlement agreements
with an undertaking or undertakings
concerned, setting out the terms to
be submitted by the commission
by application to the High Court of
Namibia for confirmation as an order
of the Court. The agreements, upon
confirmation as an order of the Court,
shall be in full and final settlement of
the Investigation and shall conclude
the proceedings.
After extensive investigative
process, including stakeholder conferences which allows for concerned
parties as well as interested parties
to make the necessary representations regarding the allegations, the
Commission resolved that the concerned parties contravened Section
23(1), 23(2)(b), 23(3)(e) and 23(3)(f )
of the Competition Act.
Fines
Firstly, PG Glass, the commission’s
investigation found that the company
contravened the Act by entering into
exclusive agreements which affords
preferential rights, sole distribution
rights, waiving of excess fees and
rebates to PG Glass. PG Glass admits
that its conduct constitutes an unintended contravention of Section 23
of the Act. The company agrees to
pay a total settlement amount of N$
750 000.00.
Secondly, commission found that
Beulah Pharmacy CC engaged into
anticompetitive behaviour when it
fixed prices through the imposition
of a 50% mark-up on the dispensing
of medicine through its professional association with other members.
It agreed to pay a total settlement
amount of N$ 40 000.00.
Thirdly, for CeCe Otjo Pharmacy
CC, the commission found that the
company had contravened the Act
by fixing prices through imposing a
50% mark-up on the dispensing of
medicine through its professional association with other members. CeCe
Otjo agrees to pay a total settlement
amount of N$ 85 000.00.
Moreover, the commission’s investigation into Chrismed Pharmacy’s
alleged anti-competitive conduct
found that the company had engaged
in price fixing through the imposition
of a 50% mark-up on the dispensing
of medicine through its professional
association with other members. The
company agrees to pay a total settlement amount of N$ 15 000.00.
Furthermore, JN Hyper Pharmacy CC was found to have engaged in
fixing prices through the imposition
of a 50% mark-up on the dispensing
of medicine through its professional association with other members.
It agrees to pay a total settlement
amount of N$ 60 000.00.
Lastly, Medimart was found to
be in contravention of the Act for
fixing prices through imposing a 50%
mark-up on the dispensing of medicine through its professional association with other members. Medimart agrees to pay a total settlement
amount of N$ 65 000.00.

ith the African
continent continuously developing and requiring
innovative thinking, entrepreneurs have also
become a necessity. Business awards play an important role in fostering African businesses
by offering recognition
and visibility for their
achievements. By participating in these awards,
companies can showcase
their products, services,
and innovations and gain
recognition from industry
experts, customers, and
the media.
Tendai Rukwava, CEO
of TR Brand Communications and Events and the
representative of TOP
100 Africa, highlights
that being nominated for
a business award creates
networking opportunities, allowing one to build
up their reputation.
“Winning a business
award can also help companies to build their brand
reputation, attract new
customers, and increase
their market share. What
we are trying to achieve
for TOP100 Africa as an
award organisation is providing an opportunity for
businesses to network
with other companies in
their industry and make
new connections,” said
Tendai Rukwava, the CEO
of TR Brand Communications and Events.
Moreover, business
awards can also serve as
a benchmark for businesses to measure their
performance against their
peers and identify areas
for improvement. By participating in these awards,
businesses can learn from
the experiences of other
successful companies
and gain insights into
best practices and industry trends.
Finally, business awards
can foster entrepreneurship and economic growth
in Africa by encouraging
businesses to strive for excellence and innovation.
By promoting successful
companies, these awards
can inspire others to start
their businesses and contribute to the growth of
the African economy.
“At the end of the day,
all companies seek leadership in their industries. The biggest benefit
of being an award-winning business comes from
being driven by the principles that create awardwinning businesses. An
award ceremony allows
you to differentiate your
business from its competitors and showcase your
leadership, and it should
be your business goal for
2023,” concludes Tendai
Rukwava, CEO of TR
Brand Communications
and Events
Business awards play a
crucial role in promoting
African businesses by offering recognition, visibility, and opportunities for

Any option that allows

should be taken without
hesitation.

SAA NO LONGER
TECHNICALLY INSOLVENT
SAA is no longer technically insolvent, and
had a net equity value of R1 billion at the end
of 2022, National Treasury told Parliament
on Wednesday.
This raises the key question of whether next
week’s national budget will see funding allocated for the embattled airline to settle the
last of its legacy debt.
Treasury’s Asset and Liability Management
Division this week briefed the Standing Committee on Appropriations about the situation
at state-owned enterprises, including SAA,
Eskom, Transnet, and Denel.
According to Treasury, SAA had net group
losses for the first three quarters of the
current financial year, amounting to R50
million. However, it pointed out that this is
a significant improvement on the predicted
budgeted loss of R637 million.
SAA’s legacy debt includes the third and final
payment of a receivership created when SAA
exited business rescue in April 2021. At the
time, SAA’s shareholder, the Department
of Public Enterprises (DPE) estimated that
about R3.5 billion was needed to cover all of
SAA’s legacy debt, including what was owed
via the receivership liabilities. It is unclear
how much is still outstanding.
All eyes are now on Finance Minister Enoch
Godongwana to see if he allocates SAA the
necessary funding in his Budget speech next
week to enable the airline to settle the last
tranche of the receivership, due by August
this year.
SAA’s chosen strategic equity partner, the
Takatso Consortium, has made it clear that it
will not take responsibility for any of the airPHOTO REUTERS line’s legacy debt. – Fin24

Huawei believes that what
it calls “4T” Technologies,

Africa’s renewable energy:

Transforming from energy
consumers to producers
STAFF REPORTER
H
uawei demonstrated its commitment to Africa’s energy
transition, while also showcasing the full range of its latest solar PV
and green home and business solutions, at the Solar Power Africa Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
In his keynote address to the conference attendees, Xia Hesheng, President of Huawei Digital Power Sub-Saharan Africa Region, pointed out that
“Carbon Neutrality” has become a
global consensus. Low carbonisation,
digitalisation and intelligence will
definitely be a deterministic trend
in the next 30 or 40 years. However,
digitalisation and intelligence are all
supported by computing power that
consumes a huge amount of electricity, which is now driving the urgency
for the development of clean energy.
And, solar as the main renewable
energy, driven by three key factors;
low carbon, digitalisation and intelligence, is growing rapidly. Renewable energy will therefore become the
main energy resource.
Hesheng expanded that Africa urgently needs solar energy to address
its energy shortage challenges.
“Worsening load shedding and rising
energy costs are seriously impacting
our lives, productivity, and ability to
engage meaningfully in economic activity,” he said.
“Huawei believes that what it calls
“4T” Technologies, will drive the
development of Africa’s renewable
energy: watT, heaT, baTtery and biT.
Over its 25 years of operating in Sub
Sahran Africa, Huawei has a deep understanding of the region’s energy
and technology requirements. We are
committed to utilise Huawei’s digital
power energy technologies to build a
better Africa and bring clean energy
to more people, families, and organisations,” continued Hesheng.
Transform
Huawei called on every organization to take action to transform from
energy consumers to energy producers.
Xia illustrated how Huawei itself is
doing so, using two examples from its
work in South Africa. The first is Huawei’s Johannesburg campus, where
all 18 buildings and parking garages
are covered with solar panels, supporting a solar system which provides
1500KWh/day. Another example, is
the Waterkloof Winery in Cape Town,
where Huawei has worked with a local
partner, to provide a clean energy solution. A cluster of solar panels on the
winery’s roof generates 1100KWh/
Day of green electricity to the winery.
“We are happy to see that more enterprises, organisations, and families are actively taking action to
change from pure energy consumers to energy producers. We want

TIELMAN VAN LILL
T
he 2023 Pupkewitz MegaBuild
Tour de Windhoek racing cycle
tour, Namibia’s premier road
bike race, once again did not disappoint.
Melissa Hinz and Drikus ‘The
Machine’ Coetzee triumphantly
won their respective elite divisions
yesterday.
Coetzee, in particular, must have
come up with a superhuman effort
to win the last stage and the tour in
its entirety.
He told Namibia Media Holdings:
“This is definitely one of the highlights of my career and a performance that I am very proud of”.
With the five-kilometre prologue
last Thursday to determine the
wearers of the yellow jerseys for the
first stage, the South African men’s
teams already made their mark.
Hinz flew Namibia’s flag high, with
her team-mates from Simonis Storm
Powered by Hollard (SSPBH) short
on her rear wheel. Gustav Basson
of Team DMS won the elite men’s
division.
On Friday morning during the
first stage (109 km) on the Dordabis road, Basson had to give up the
yellow jersey when Brandon Downes
from TEG Procycling was crowned
victorious.
Hinz kept her golden garb after
Anri Krugel, her team-mate, beat
her over 80 km.
Coetzee and Krugel (both SSPBH)
won the polka-dot jersey when they
were named King of the Mountain
(KOM) for stage one.
Team time trial
The second stage on Friday afternoon at the Tony Rust race track
did not affect the positions yellowjersey wearers. TEG (23 minutes
15 seconds) won the competition
by two seconds against Tufo BMC
(13:17), with the Cymot A Team
(23:58) placing third. This stage is
contested over a distance six laps of
2.6 km each.
For the women, SSPBH (19:42) beat
Lema (20:14) and Cymot (22:33) over
a distance four laps of 2.6 km.
Meanwhile, during Saturday morning’s challenging third stage (117
km) on the C28 road and Western
Bypass, Coetzee turned on the gas
and won the stage in 2:55:30.55, with
Kimhan van der Merwe (Tufo BMC)
in 2:31:08 short on his heels. Downes
(third in 2:56.50) was obliged to relinquish his yellow jersey to Coetzee
while Hinz easily kept hers over
79km.
Kevin Lowe (Cymot A team) picked
up the KOM jersey, while Krugel successfully defended hers.
Stages 4 and 5
The fourth stage on Saturday afternoon from Pupkewitz MegaBuild
past the Snyman Sircle produced the
usual excitement for fans as teams
competed for points. Hinz and Coetzee’s yellow jerseys were once again
safe for the fifth stage on Sunday
morning on the Von Bach Dam road.
This stage over 53 and 77 kilometres respectively for the elite women
and men once again delivered superb
racing by Namibia’s Coetzee to
secure an excellent victory against
the professional South African
riders.
In the team competition, Tufo BMC
(22:15:29) won the division with
DMS (22:52:14) coming in second
and TEG (22:54.26) in third.
For the women, SSPBH dominated
in 19:48.52, while Lema (20:22.18)
finished second and Cycles4U
(21:02.18) third.
Melissa Hinz and Drikus Coetzee
are the individual winners of the

Into Touch
Arsenal needs
to catch up
Picture of the week
Men given chance to play
LIMBA MUPETAMI
Arsenal has led the way in the English
Premier League for so long that when they
fell off the table it felt really strange.
Mikel Arteta’s young side have done remarkably well to get themselves into the position they are in, but back to back poor performances have really let them down. Yes,
beating Aston Villa and getting back to the
top is a blessing but how long will that last?
Losing to Manchester City was a real
setback.
However, let’s not forget they still have a
game in hand over City.
When Arsenalfell from the top, this obviously caused a lot of talk.
Luckily, no one has called for Arteta’s head
yet. But ask yourself this question: Has there
ever been a team going through the whole
season not only winning every game, but also
dominating the opponent in every game?
The answer is no. Did anyone expect Arsenal
to go through this season playing dominating
football in almost every game and becoming
runaway champions with a point tally of 100
or more?
That is really absurd.
Football is a marathon. Sometimes you win
five games in a row, and then you lose three
in a row.
The only thing for Arteta to do now is to pick
himself and his team up not to allow the Villa
win to cement what he can still work on. Personally, I think his tactics have become predictable and clubs are getting quite comfortable playing against them.
I feel like he’s running out of ideas against
bigger clubs and needs to work on different
tactics and formations to counter the playing
style of bigger and stronger clubs. It doesn’t
help to continue using the same starting 11
and same approach in every match. Players
who have been performing so well this
season have started to struggle, with Gabriel
Martinelli being a prime example.
Arteta needs to come up with a much fresher
perspective and new coaching techniques
and to quiet his one-dimensional
playing style.
It will also help the squad a little
bit if Gabriel Jesus returned. But it
is also no use to count on him now.
The best thing to do is to give those
on the bench a chance to start.
Maybe losing several matches is
good for the team - it will give
them a chance to regroup,
refocus and to relieve some
of the pressure on the
players. I think Arsenal
should develop a - “let’s
go hunt approach in
each game”.

last ending at 16:50 on Saturday.
Men, school players and anyone of any age
or gender could participate in the games,
which gave everyone exposure while the
umpires got a chance to improve on their
skills. United Netball head coach Enrica
Farmer said the tournament was a great
success and the inclusion of men in the event
was due to the fact that there is no netball
league for men in Namibia.
“Besides that, the aim of the event was also
to have fun,” she said.
This year, nine teams from all over Namibia
competed: Five’s Alive, Pasop Broers, Purple
Bullets, Supremas, Heavenly Candy, Goal
Getters, Hustle, Fun-tastics 11 and Hou by
die Blou.
Purple Bullets took first place, with Heavenly Candy and Five’s Alive bagged second
and third place respectively.
At the closing ceremony, the winners of
various prizes were announced.

The Namibian Kickboxing Federation (NKF) - in association with the
Namibia Martial Arts Academy and
the Swakopmund Fight Club - will
host an open kickboxing tournament on Saturday, 4 March.
The competition, set to be held
on a tatami mat, will take place
at the Swakopmund Hotel and
Entertainment Centre. According to event organiser Jackeline
Sass, the purpose of the event is
to offer athletes a chance to practice their skills in preparation for
the Namibia Fight Championship
trials.
“We can expect that both clubs
will be in full attendance with both
junior and senior participants. Only
points fighting and light contact
styles will be used, along with the
fight rules of the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations
(WAKO),” WAKO is an international kickboxing organisation founded
in 1977, counting over 120 affiliated
countries and representing all five
continents. It is a major governing
body of amateur kickboxing and is
responsible for the development of
kickboxing worldwide.
Sass explained that all fighters
must adhere to the WAKO rules,
including those listing health and
safety requirements. “Fighters
must undergo a medical check-up
to authorise participation. After
undergoing their check-up, fighters can contact me to arrange their
entry for the event. We expect a few
matches on the day as we still await
entries, and as such, we will only
be able to know exactly how many
fights we have closer to the date of
the event,” she said. The entry fee
for participants is N$150 for both
styles, and N$100 for spectators.
She encouraged the public to attend
the event and support the fighters.
“I would also like to take the opportunity to announce our recent kickboxing affiliation with the Namibian National Olympic Committee.
This gives the NKF the opportunity to develop athletes in kickboxing for future Olympics for both the
youth and seniors. We hope to send
a team of kickboxers to represent
Namibia at the ensuing Olympics.”

Arrows off to
a flying start

The Arrows Ladies Football Club
defeated Namib Daughters Football Club 3-2 in an entertaining FNB Women’s Super League
match played at the Mondesa
Soccer Stadium in Swakopmund
on Saturday.
Both teams came out pressing and
created numerous chances, but failed
to find the back of the net. Arrows dictated the pace of the match with some
slick passing while Namib Daughters
enjoyed most of the ball possession
during the opening stage.
Senoritha Aochamus came close for
Namib Daughters and had her shot
blocked by the Arrows goalkeeper
Anandi Vries in the 15th minute. The
Daughters goalie was also called into
action at the other end with a goalbound directed attempt from the edge
of the box by Arrows captain Ignacia
Hoases in 19th minute.
Arrows eventually broke the deadlock. Jekohasana Kamatjipose
latched onto a through ball and found
the back of the net in the 23rd minute.
Elsabe Whitney stunned the crowd
with a second goal for the visitors
from Windhoek, scored in the 27th
minute. Vries, the Arrows goalie, had
to receive treatment after she rushed
out to thwart an attempt and collided
with by Rooide Ndumba in the 29th
minute.
Namib Daughters intensified the
search for their first goal. Captain
Haoses came close but failed to
scramble the ball over the goal line
in the 40th minute.
When the opportunity befell Moriza
Gawanas in the 44th minute, she
made no mistake and restored some
hope (2-1) for the coastal fans and
her team-mates.Kamatjipose could
have made it 3-1, but she directed her
header agonisingly wide moments
before the whistle went for half-time.
Renewed enthusiasm
Namib Daughters returned with
renewed enthusiasm. The home team
came close to scoring the equaliser
on two occasions, but stubborn defending by Arrows kept them at bay.
Kamatjipose scored her second
and her team’s third goal in the 55th
minute (3-1). Talitha Aubes rounded
off a good build-up and replied for
Arrows in the 65th minute (3-2). An
alert Arrows goalie, Sarafina Khuruses, prevented Kamatjipose from
scoring her third goal on two occasions.
The Arrows Ladies coach Salomon
Nakale said he was extremely proud
of his squad and that he appreciated
efforts by the opposition. “We will
analyse the match and must keep
the tempo, consistency and hunger
to play and win. There are some
issues that need fixing, so we will
attend to that. The players need to
be more clinical when dealing with
the chances that come their way.”
He added that his team was new to
the Super League set-up. “We will
play 14 teams and have set ourselves
the objective of finishing with a top
eight position, which I believe is a
fair target.”
He named Kamatjipose as his player
of the match and thanked First National Bank Namibia for boosting
women’s soccer and for doing what
has never been done before.
“The league will do the community and players good. It will help
players get aligned with doing the
right things, and keep them focused
and productive.”
Back to the drawing board
Namib Daughters coach Ryaan Matsi
named Whitney his player of the
match. He added that a lack of game
fitness cost his side dearly.
“We are the only team from the
region competing in the league. Many
of our senior players left and we have
a fairly young squad. This was our first
game and I think we need another
three more games to gel. It is definitely back to the drawing board for us.”
Arrows delivered a solid performance at the coast on Saturday.

The FNB Women’s Super
League returned with a bang
on Saturday afternoon.
Women’s football back with a bang
LIMBA MUPETAMI
O
n a hot and sunny Saturday
at the Namibia Football Association Technical Centre in
Windhoek’s Katutura, three matches
took place in the FNB Women’s Super
League. In the first match of the day,
Beauties FC beat Okahandja FC 7-2.
Okahandja FC scored the first goal
of the day via Hilary Keiser, but their
competitors - through a beautiful
free kick by Nicole Philander - then
scored the equaliser. This stabilised
the Beauties side, which again scored
a second goal through Diane Kock.
This was followed by a third goal
before half-time by Fiola Vliete.
In the second half, more goals
rained down on the Okahandja side
with Vliete scoring her second goal.
On the other side, Okahandja received a penalty, which was scored
by Mercialin Rooinasie.
But Beauties were not deterred and
again landed another goal through
Meagan Schuster. The sixth goal was
an own goal by Ndevatita Kambo, the
goalkeeper of Okahandja FC, as she
tried to stop a free kick with her feet
instead of just using her hands.
Vliete scored the seventh goal to
conclude the match 7-2, recording
a hat-trick.
Thrashing
The second match between the
Namibia University of Science and
Technology (Nust) Babes FC and
the V-Power Angels also proved
to be really entertaining, with the
latter thrashing the Nust Babes
5-0. In the first minutes of the first
half and just seconds apart, Anna
Ida Somses scored two goals. Linea
Ndaameshime soon after found the
net, and the fourth goal then came
through from Unodjamo Kaetjavi.
It didn’t end there as Nancy Lebang
scored the fifth goal to send her side
into half-time on a high.
No goals were scored in the second
half. In the third match of the day,
Tura Magic beat RightWay FC 8-1
to record the highest goal tally in the
league.
The first goal came from Memory
Ngonda in the sixth minute, a brilliant header by Lovisa Mulunga followed in the 11th minute while an
excellent third from Thomalina
Adams came in the 18th minute.
Ivone Kooper scored the fourth
goal just moments later in the 20th
minute. RightWay also pulled one
goal through Chantell Muinjangue
in the 26th minute, but after halftime Mulunga once again headed in
another goal.
Emma Naris followed up to score
in the 73rd minute, while the 77th
minute was another chance for
Ngonda to add to her tally. After
coming on as a substitute, Anna
Shikusho also found herself on the
score sheet.
In other matches in the Women’s
Super League, Galz & Goals defeated
Nampol 1-0 at the Unam Field, while
Arrows beat Namib Daughters 3-2 at
the coast. At the Oshakati Stadium,
Ongwediva Queens defeated Ramblers 2-0.

NKF to host open kickboxing tournament

The Richelieu Eagles’ triangular mini-series in Nepal
against the host and Scotland
last week did not go as Namibia
and their faithful supporters
would have liked.
Namibia lost three of its
four One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in the ICC World
Cricket Cup League 2 competition in Kirtipur. Two against
the Rhinos and one against
Scotland.
The Eagles face the Scots
today in their final ODI before
heading to Dubai for their final
two ODI clashes of this competition against the United Arab
Emirates. With the Emirates
behind them, Namibia will
have completed the cycle of
36 ODIs.
The Eagles should have earned
at least seven points in their
last six games to edge Oman
from second position on the
CWCL2 standings with 44
points. However, this is now
impossible to achieve.
With three beatings in Nepal
to their credit, Namibia is currently in a pinch position and is
still third with 37 points, while
Oman (36 played) with 44 and
Scotland with 48 occupy the
second and first positions respectively.
Whether Namibia can finish
in third depends on the Emirates (10 ODIs left) and Nepal
(nine left).
If the Eagles can finish third,
they will skip the contested
qualifying round in July in
Botswana to qualify for the
2023 ODI World Cup in India.
The Emirates (fifth) currently
have 27 points and can potentially earn 14 points in their
last 10 ODIs.
Nepal (sixth) boasts 24 and can
also pick up 14 in their last nine
ODIs. This leaves the Emirates
on 41 and Nepal on 38, which
puts Namibia’s ODI status in
jeopardy.
The Emirates will be a tough
nut to crack in Dubai where
Afghanistan (a test country)
is currently touring. Although
the visitors won the first International T20 match by
five wickets, the Emirates
clinched the second clash by
nine wickets.
Results in Kirtipur
ODI 1: Nepal 287/8 in 47.4
overs; Namibia 285/10 in 50.
Namibia lost by two wickets.
ODI 2: Scotland 157/0 in
22.1; Namibia 153/10 in 39.2.
Namibia lost by 10 wickets.
ODI 3: Nepal 278/7 in 47.3;
Namibia 274/6 in 50. Namibia
lost by three wickets.

Kudus triumph in 10-a-side rugby

F
NB Kudu Rugby Club’s
first team showed irrepressible confidence
on their way to winning the
Trustco United 10-a-side
premier division in Windhoek
on Saturday.
Coach Gawan Esterhuizen’s
men beat FNB Wanderers
21-12 in a tightly contested
final under floodlights, taking
home the N$10 000 prize
money put up by the tournament’s main sponsors Windhoek Draught and Brand Plan.
Among the revelations in the
tournament were Kudus’ offseason acquisitions of fly half
Geraldo Beukes (from FNB
Rehoboth), as well as the
former FNB Grootfontein
duo of full back Irongwa ‘Zulu’
Atshivudhi and Mogamat
Emamdien (loose forward).
Beukes scored the first try
in the final, picking up and
darting over from close range
after drives by his forwards
Anthony Hoebeb and Gregory
Namaseb, and converted it
himself. Wanderers worked
over their hooker Dandre
Schreuder from a tapped
penalty in the left corner
shortly afterwards, for an unconverted try (half-time 7-5).
Runaway sprint
A sharp line-break from Wanderers centre DJ Holtzhausen
laid the foundation for Wanderers’ unconverted try by
lock Johan Meyer.
Kudus responded when
centre Paolo Andrews
rounded off a move, and
from the next kick-off, wing
Aston Mukwiilongo displayed
his speed with a runaway
sprint from within his own
half, as the Walvis Bay team
raced away to a 21-10 lead.
Wanderers were once again
brought into an attacking
position with a Holtzhausen
break which led to a five-metre scrum feed, from which
scrumhalf Louis Karsten
broke through to score, converted by Kieron Diergaardt.
However, Wanderers ran out
of time as the title went to the
Walvis Bay side.
The shortened format of
10-a-side suggests that this
weekend provided only an
early glimpse of what is to
come in the season ahead.
The absence of last year’s
Trustco 10s champions FNB
Unam, FNB Western Suburbs,
FNB Rehoboth and FNB Reho
Falcon, as well as the non-release of the national squad
players, also indicates that
this World Cup rugby year has
plenty more to come.

Coastal teams impress in all divisions
Reserve division
A total of 10 teams, divided
into two groups, made the
reserve division the most
hotly contested.
Hosts United II won the final
19-12 against Kudus II. Tries
by John Nangolo, Philip Shimbarashe and Luan Bekker
made the difference, with one
conversion by Renier Benade.
Kudus II replied with two
tries by centre Ronaldo Diergaardt. Kudus’ second team
earlier delivered a surprise
when eliminating Wanderers II in the semi-final, while
United II reached the final by
beating a resilient Mariental
team 12-10.
Women’s division
The women’s final went
into after-time, before the
United women earned the
N$5 000 with a 10-7 result
against Wanderers.After a
pointless first half, Wanderers took the lead with a try
by Yanneke Lawrence, converted by Suné Wittmann.
With the last seconds of the
match running out, Wanderers allowed a loose ball out
wide to bounce within reach
of Mbitjita Matuzee for a 70-
metre run to score under the
posts and convert, forcing the
sudden-death extra time.
A disallowed try then came to
the disappointment of United,
before they were awarded a
penalty in front of the posts
which Michelle Slinger converted with a drop-kick for the
winning points.
Earlier, Kudus recorded a
14-12 win in the pool match
against Wanderers, but a subtracted league point - due to a
yellow card - cost them a place
in the final.
