New preview from Aerosoft, released today. Looks like we’re just a few days from release now…

Facebook users only:

I’ve been eyeing up the Orbx version in the latest sale, thinking Jo Erlend Sund’s might still be a long way off. Orbx’s does look really nice, to be fair, but I’m definitely waiting for this one so I can do a detailed comparison… if there is any comparison, that is.

Jo Erland Sunds Brussels airport is a top-tier airport, he is definitely up there among the best creators, so I’ve no doubt it will be amazing!

My “problem” is that I have Finn Hansen’s Orbx rendition, and it’s great, really pleased with it! I’ve no problem to “upgrade” a sub-par airport into a great one, but if I have one that I’m pleased with, then I rather get an airport I don’t have instead.

From all I have seen from pictures(and there is a lot in aerosoft forum thread), Aerosoft looks like a winner. It looks amazing, the details are stunning.

Two genuine top-tier products of the same airport.

This is the only time in my 2½ decades of flight simming that I’m saddened that there’s an overlap of add-ons.
Holding out for Jo Sund’s version, but I would have jumped at Finn’s if there wasn’t such a high quality alternative.

Just bought the OrbX version on sale for Xbox, to replace my Justsim version. All I can say is wow. Very well optimised, and so good looking. Excellent performance and an example of how things should be done on consoles in terms of optimization.

A wise move since it’s doubtful Jo’s ENGM will get a console release. I’ve been eyeing Orbx’s up in the current sale (good deal with 30% off) but obviously I shall now wait for Aerosoft’s.

Glad another large airport can be added to the ever-growing list of decent airports for Series X.

It’s out now!

EDIT: Excellent detail and performance. I really appreciate the ambient sounds and announcements in the terminal, which increase immersion. I also understand why the passengers are so fidgety since the dude on the piano can only play “Fuer Elise” over and over :joy:

It really does look incredible, going off the promo vid. But it’s pricey on Aerosoft’s site and currently unavailable elsewhere.

It surely looks incredible but I already own Orbx’s version which is very very good. So I might get this one later when it’s on sale to justify spending twice on the same airport (actually not for the first time in my case - KMIA, LEIB or LPPD).

Out of interest, which LEIB did you have first, to consider the other an upgrade?

I think ENGM is a very hard sell if you already have Orbx’s (reputedly excellent) version. I almost bought it in the last sale but decided to hold out for Jo Erlend Sund’s. If you have no ENGM, the new one is I guess a no-brainer.

I bought ENGM by Aerosoft tonight, even though I only got the Orbx version a few weeks ago. After my first comparisons, I would say that the differences are really small. I actually like the weathered building textures a bit better in the Orbx version. And the check-in area is also much more detailed. In other parts of the terminals, sometimes Orbx and sometimes Aerosoft have the edge. The biggest advantages of Aerosoft are the ambient sounds, the animated train and the higher resolution satellite images on the landside. The level of detail on the landside and in the peripheral areas of the airport are also more detailed in Aerosoft.

Overall, however, both airports are almost on a par, with a slight advantage for Aerosoft. However, I would have imagined the difference to be greater. If you own the Orbx version, you certainly have little reason to change. Without question, there is no other airport for the MSFS with two similarly high-quality implementations. Both add-ons are really great.

Edit: Small correction: There is also an animated train in the Orbx version. I hadn’t noticed this before. Even if many other airport details look a bit better in the Aerosoft version, the train in the Orbx version is much better.

Sorry, I meant LEBL Barcelona. I had LVFR version which isn’t bad actually but it aged a bit. So I decided to go with Sim-Wings and I don’t regret the purchase. I own LEIB as well but only one rendition - iniBuilds’.

How about for performance?

My mind was made up for me when I won a copy of MK’s LEBL in a competition! Very happy, though — they’re very comparable, with some wins for the MK and some for the SW.

I took a closer look at both airports today and compared screenshots. The longer you look, the more clearly you can see the advantages of the Aerosoft version. There are definitely details like the train or the check-in hall that are better done in Orbx. But in 80-90 percent of all comparisons, the Aerosoft version wins.

But as I wrote yesterday, both versions are of very high quality. If you don’t have ENGM yet, you should definitely choose the Aerosoft version. Anyone who has already bought the airport from Orbx will have to decide how important an even more detailed Oslo is to them. I am impressed by both airports but Aerosoft has the edge in my opinion.

In terms of performance, both airports run absolutely great on my PC (7800x3d, RTX 4090) and at a similarly good level (PMDG 738, FSLTL, FS Traffic).

Thanks for these reports. As I own Orbx’s version that convinced me to stay with that and save the money for the upcoming EDDF.

I don’t mind buying brand new airports but just over €25 is a bit high for my liking. I’m not saying the airport is poor value or not worth that but I just won’t pay that much for a single airport these days.

Went with NZA’s Tauranga instead, which is €18.50 for an entire region.

After a few days with Aerosofts Oslo, I would like to emphasize once again how excellent the airport is. Even if it is definitely a waste that the same airport gets two such excellent implementations, while other important airports are still completely missing on the third-party map. But that is not to diminish the achievement of Jo Erlend Sund and his team. I really have a lot of airports now, and for me this is the most beautiful airport currently available for MSFS.

Because of the attention to detail, you don’t realize the true beauty of the airport at first and maybe not even at second glance. But the more you leave the cockpit and fly the drone, the more details you notice. The ambient sounds, depending on where you are, the weathered asphalt of the bridges on the landside, the incredibly accurate roof and building construction. Plus the many signs on objects and the airport traffic. It all brings the airport to life.

It’s a mystery to me how an airport with this level of detail can offer such smooth performance. I have a high-end PC, but still there are addons that run nowhere near as well, even though they have significantly less to offer.

I feel like the airport is getting a bit lost as KLGA (rightly) gets so much attention and praise. But Jo Erlend Sund has created another masterpiece. You just have to look closely.

By the way, I think the price is reasonable. Airports from Feelthere, for example, also cost around 20 euros. With the same amount of work that Aerosoft has put into Oslo, other developers create 5-10 airports. I’m quite sure of that. I think 25 euros is an absolutely fair price. Even if you can argue about whether airports are a bit too expensive compared to airplanes in general.

With La Guardia, Oslo and Tauranga a very exciting, albeit expensive, week at MSFS.

I don’t think the price is unreasonable. It’s just that I personally won’t pay over about £16 for a single airport these days, unless it’s one I have a particular affinity with. Tauranga was an exception as that scenery covers three airports, a heliport and an expansive wider area (and was literally only a few pence over my £16 limit).

I’ve realised that I’m not going to stop buying airports any time soon and the sheer number I buy has lead me to become a little more selective based on price. KLGA surprised me with its 5% launch discount, and even without that the price was very reasonable.

It is indeed a pretty exciting week with three of the best devs all releasing scenery! Did you get Tauranga?

My comment about the price was not related to your post above. As 25 euros tends to be the upper limit for airports, I wanted to say more generally that I think it’s justified in this case. And I also need to be a bit more selective with my purchases now. After switching to the PC, I’ve already spent far too much money. :see_no_evil:

Nevertheless, I couldn’t resist and bought Tauranga yesterday. However, I haven’t had the chance to test it yet. I’m sure I’ll like it, though.
