Orbx/Jetstream Designs - ESSA - Arlanda Stockholm - Released!

Orbx released their ESSA - Arlanda Stockholm scenery yesterday! This is made by Markus Nyberg and JetStream Designs.

I’ve followed the dev journey on this one and I’m really excited that it was relelased!

These are the features:

  • Exquisitely detailed depiction of ESSA Stockholm-Arlanda
  • Functional & correct VDGS for every stand
  • Animated jetways
  • Enhanced interiors for all terminals & SkyCity
  • High-quality custom GSE & Clutter (optional)
  • Animated vehicles with weather & time influenced appearance (optional)
  • Weather-influenced snowbanks & snow trucks (optional)
  • High-resolution mesh
  • Included GSX-profile

They posted two things good to know:

  • Remember to uninstall the Asobo ESSA version. You dont need to (or should) uninstall the whole World Update Nordics package, just the airport scenery.

  • When loading gate from main menu you might not be able to connect the jetway. MSFS loads all aircraft at the same certain nose wheel position which in combination with the very restricted movement jetway types at ESSA might mean the door is not in line with jetway. Our guidance VDGS system is designed to look for door positions instead which will set you correctly. So either slew into position where door is in line with jetway or taxi to a new gate and follow the vdgs. If using the added GSX profile I’ve been told you can also use the spawn to gate feature in GSX.

As for uninstalling the ESSA that was included in World Update 5 Nordics, you need to go into the world update itself in the content manager and from there you can uninstall it, so you won’t find it directly if you search in the content manager.

What do I think of it?
Over all it’s a fantastic scenery, crafted with attention to detail, capturing Arlanda Airport really well!

The Postives:

  • Accurate to the real-world airport as far as I can tell
  • Great variety of really high-quality airport vehicles that are accurate to the ones used at Arlanda (including moving ones) and with lot of detail
  • Fantastic night lightning
  • Runways, taxiways, taxiway signs etc looking realistic with nice textures
  • Modelling of the terminals is top-notch
  • Lot of nice clutter that is local to Arlanda
  • Good looking jetways supporting VDGS (not tried them out yet)
  • Texturing in general is really good
  • Lot of interiors included, all main terminals towards the airside are included with good attention to detail (local shops and restaurants etc
  • Probably the best airport I’ve seen in snowy conditions, with even snow banks along the sides and great looking plows etc. Taxiways and runways free of snow.
  • Cargo areas included with great detail

The Negatives:

  • Some might find it a bit expensive, but given the effort I can see why it’s priced as it is
  • Tower was a disappointment, there are some interior modelling (all-though not looking finished) but with the opaque windows you cannot see it, maybe they will update this in an upcoming patch, not sure
  • Land side is lacking (as in front of the terminal etc), obviously not a priority but good to know in case you think it’s important
  • I would’ve preferred some parallax windows instead of opaque windows on the airside, but more a personal preference and since most have interior design it’s not a big issue
  • Some lower res textures in places, probably to optimize performance, but not in crucial places (more roofs etc)

I think the negatives are quite small, looking at the full picture and in general I really love this airport, feeling it’s definitely worth an upgrade from the one included in the World Update!
