What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 1)

My second attempt, after the sim froze due to a (bogus) photogrammetry bandwidth warning. A 15 minute flight from Quonset, RI (KOQU) to Worcester, MA (KORH). Shot the ILS approach to runway 29 without any problems, though we received (another) photogrammetry warning (though this one didn’t freeze things). Also, ATC stopped working and I could only hear my replies. But we landed pretty slick, despite mangling our exit onto the taxiway with a little off-roading. Welcome to Massachusetts on our on-going 50 state tour. Next off to New Hampshire! YT link to full flight:

Another short one! 18 minute flight up from Worcester, MA (KORH) to Concord, NH (KCON) in the Longitude. At just 58nm, we flew at 12,000 feet and shot the RNAV to runway 35 on a beautiful, clear, chilly fall New England evening. Inasmuch as Concord is an un-towered airport, we had to do our best to find parking, but we managed. Welcome to New Hampshire on our on-going 50 state tour. Maine next! YT link to approach/landing:

Nice evening flight from Iraklion to Athens, recreating Olympic Flight OA946 from the 1962 timetable.

On a whim I had a lovely early morning flight from Bologna to Venice in the Beech Bonanza, a plane I haven’t flown before. The approach to Venice over the lagoon was spectacular. My wife’s been there, but I haven’t, so I did a lot of low level sightseeing before diverting to the airport.

I’m going to do something similar tonight, Indiana Jones style, in the floatplane version of the 1939 Junkers, starting at Lake Como.

I’ve spent many sessions in the last week just following tutorials on the CRJ 700. Finally got her off the ground the other day but exited the flight at cruise so I can go back and repeat the startup - takeoff and climb procedures. My plan this time was to follow along the tutorial for descent and landing (currently bouncing between FilbertFlies and The Dude’s tutorials) but managed the descent so well that I said screw it! I’m putting this bird on the ground without any hand holding! Not the prettiest approach but I set her down no problem once I got my speed under control! I’m not going to lie, I’m HYPED on how well I managed the landing! I also had installed the trial version of FSRealistic without testing it on any other flight and to my immense pleasure got a round of applause from the cabin upon touchdown! Made me feel pretty dang good hahah. Oh and to put a cherry on top there was an A320 at the holding point of RWY 28R waiting for me to land ( I flew the KSFO ILS 28R approach coming form San Luis Obispo - KSBP). Little did they know they were a witness to a breakthrough moment for my flight simming. I’m a pretty happy camper right now. Graduated from the CJ4 to the CRJ 700 :man_pilot:

Seems like you did what I do. My plan is to research(wikipedia) every photogrammetry city in USA, learn about it, and then fly over it. Makes the experience better and sometimes I even retain information! lol

But also if I find something interesting like a facebook post of a beautiful place, I’ll try to find it as well. My military buddy posted a picture of “poo pond”, a pond in Afghanistan along with a whole bunch of satire reviews. I wanted to see if poo pond was represented in the sim, and sure enough, it was, minus the smell which I’m fine with. Not in the category of beautiful place, moreso interesting place.

I have a question, if you don’t mind.

How is it that you are flying a helicopter? As I understand it, helis take a completely different flight model. Do you know how that is handled?

Thanks

Flew them in FSX and P3D, which really had poor helicopter dynamics. Get the most helicopter supportive controllers (I get by with the Saitek X52) and learn how to fly with rudder, a lot. The current designers of this sim’s helicopters have made some great adaptive models to give a good flight experience. If you like helicopters enough you can read up at https://www.helisimmer.com/.
You can also get help flying by watching this fellow’s videos: https://www.youtube.com/c/RotorSimPilot
It’s a challenge, but they’ve made different levels for what you want to get out of flying them.

Happy landings!

I flew the A320 in VR from EGNT to EGCC and with the new software and settings it was so clear and realistic in my Quest 2 I don’t think I can go back to potato view again.
The flight was 100% Immersive and I loved every minute of the flight.
Next flight will be in the eurofighter for a bit more adrenaline feeling

Had a flight with the Piper over the Alps.

It still is impressive how the graphics are on the X Box Series S (when you have a bit of altitude)

However, that illusion came to a stop, when I had to wash the tires of the Cub in Alaska. Does it improve with a Series X?

Flight 1 - Stornoway to BIKF in Iceland.

Flight 2:

Shortish night flight from BIKF to BIVO in Iceland, west to east. Delivering cargo. Rain in BIKF but a clear landing over at BIVO.

Currently building a base at BIVO, once that’s complete, will be making my way north to Kangerlussuaq Airport in Greenland, where it is currently -18c/0f

Embraer EMB 110

Installed a fresh copy of win10 (along side the win10/win11) os. Learned that in the new op sys all I had to do was install steam, install the FS loader, and then when it ran point it to the MSFS install on the other os.

So long story short, running the latest release of win 10 (no insider non-sense) with a copy of usercfg.opt from the other os, I gained about 6 more fps, and the game loads faster.

So Im running the same version on two seperate OS installs win11 or win 10 and so far the clean fresh install of win 10 version is winning:

Flew up the coast of Lake Michigan from Chicago Executive to General Mitchell in Milwaukee. I dont think in my years of simming (and I have been messing around with FS since version 3.0) I have ever flown north up the coast of the lake. I have flown south, across to the east, west, but never north. So away I went. Nice sunset flight, the fading light was something I could never imagine back then.

Fun 33 minute flight from Concord, NH (KCON) to Hancock County/Bar Harbor, ME (KBHB). Took off with a gorgeous sunset but landed in the pitch black at this un-towered airport (again!) and had to feel our way to a parking spot. RNAV approach to runway 04 worked about 3 miles from the threshold, but at least it worked. Gorgeous, crystal clear night (though we landed just before 5PM EST). Welcome to Maine! Next we will head to Vermont (skipping over NH since we already landed there and Maine share no borders with any other state). Our 50 state adventure continues! YT link to approach/landing:
