What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 2)

@StarMadeKnight I submitted a Zendesk report on the Timezone issue in Tasmania before the Australia World Update. I would have thought that it would be fixed in an update that focused directly on Australia but alas… nothing. Actually the Zendesk report was never even acknowledged. (Other than the standard email reply saying it was received). Super frustrating

Once you get dialed in with a routine, it’s really fast. I can fully program the flight from pushback to approach in 7 minutes.

WOW, WOW, WOW - I DID VR IN THE ICON A5 :trophy:

I simply cannot believe I figured out how to hook it up, and cannot believe the different feeling VR makes.

I flew out of a dirt strip I have been building 7FL6 Loxahatchee in the ICON A5 (with flightsim.to MG Enterprises Realism Mod)

I didn’t do any of the resolution tweaks yet, so my view was pretty blurry but it was 3D, and when I turned my head I could look left, right, up, down, even backwards sticking my head “through” the window.

A couple times in turns, I felt like I was going to fall out of my chair, and when I pitched down at the top of my takeoff climb I felt something strange.

When I put my face real close (like two inches) to a tiny warning label, I could read every letter clearly. But looking for the runway from two miles away took faith that it will appear out of the blur. Sure enough the big red PAPI lights appeared, and when I crossed the fence “low and slow” for my first VR landing, the runway end lights were real clear inches below where I was sure my landing gear were.

I didn’t have the sound figured out, and I came in so gently I didn’t know I was down but my airspeed said I better be so I tapped the brakes and sure enough I survived my first VR landing!

Truly believable “in the airplane” feeling as opposed to “flying the sim”.

Flew the ATR 72 600 from Charlotte to Wilmington and buzzed the tower at full throttle doing a go around because I messed up the approach sequence (wrong runway) and got right the second time

Today I did the riskiest kind of live stream: a test featuring a new glider (Madolo’s Jonkers JS3, which I had never flown before), a long gliding flight and my voice (which demanded some tricks with the joystick settings). I liked it, actually, and I plan new flights like this, but not having to emergency land.

I had a short time for more than 100 Km of planned route and at one time had to let the glider go alone and do some real life things. Adding to that, MSFS decided that I had to fly 3 hours later than the settings at the map screen. Definitely all that was not what I expected, but we are subject to such things on live streams. In the end, I landed safely at a desolate area and called the rescue (the ESC key).

Beginning.

Initial climb (looks like self-propelled on replay).

Almost starting the task.

Looking for a place to land.

Leonardo M346 (IndiaFoxtEcho) KNUQ to KBAB above the clouds to enjoy the new Beale AFB scenery from Blackbird. Some frightful approaches, a couple of solid landings, and one terrifying vertical departure. It wouldn’t be complete without meeting U2 in person!

That’s a shame.

I started playing over a year ago, and to be honest, i never noticed the time issue, but it must have been present since i started playing.

I was also thinking of submitting a ticket, but i found a bug report for zimezones being wrong for a few places. The bug was reported as logged, so i believe that means it’s on the list of known bugs. So i doubt that it’s even worth it at this point.

Norway bush trip in WB-Sim C172 in real weather. After few days cloud cover lifted, so I could continue flying in Norway. Actually weather was better than expected. Only very few clouds and also wind was not as strong. But still slowing me down with around 15kn headwind.

Finally got my new yoke - retired my CH I’ve had for some 25 years, and my 'younger Saitek throttle set - so I’ll be back in the yoke seat again. I’ll still do the stick flying from time to time, but I really want to back to commercial flights. Downside is I’ll miss all that cool VFR scenery that is one of the highlights of this sim.

So, I’m acquainting myself with the ATR. First flight was based on what I knew from my FSX/P3D version - yes, I know this is much more involved than that. Still, I got started, up and down. Also took the GSX plunge and what a difference a flightsim version makes.

Did a flightaware flight from Toulouse-Blagnac to Paris Orly. Very nice, though I was wary of mucking things up. Nothing happened I could not deal with. Thanks, Asobo and Umberto.

Still plenty to learn.

Congrats on the new controller! 25 years with the other one certainly must have racked up some great memories. Here’s to more memories with your new one!

Thurday flight: VietJet A320 from Phuket (VTSP) to Bali Denpasar (WADD)

Distance: 1491 nm
Flight time: 3:29 Hours

Sadly, my aircraft ended up with collision with some bugged trees on taxiway during taxiing in to terminal, and crashed. So no deboarding and cargo unload possible after 3.5 hours flight!

After yesterday’s frustrated flight plan, I gave Madolo’s Jonkers JS3 one more chance, with no ballast over La Habana (Cuba), with a very small challenging course (I limited myself to 300ft over the finish at the Revolution Plaza, with the awesome mv46’s addon). Limiting so much the ending altitude made me fly twice, with the first flight ending at the beach – I managed energy really badly on the first time. For the second chance, with everything properly adjusted, I first passed 366ft over the end point and got a bad finish, having to climb again on an astonishing thermal (with a peak 8.9 m/s average climb rate, equivalent to 1,750 ft/minute!) and accomplishing the task properly. JS3 still requires too much effort on the stick, but it’s awesome when flown properly.

Took off and landed at Ciudad Libertad Airport (MULB).

La Habana.

First flight, looking at the southern side of the Revolution Plaza.

Bush flight.

Second chance.

Approaching the Revolution Plaza for the first time (of the second flight).

Wow!

Revolution Plaza, going down.

Task complete, with a star.

PRE-FLIGHT the upcoming final leg of the Aussie Group Emerald Isle Tiger Moth flight from Shannon EINN to Cork EICK (4pm Eastern 2000z Monday June 12

Word to the wise: Aussie Group flight times are only correct on Discord event notice

To prepare for the upcoming group flight, I installed some possibly relevant Ireland scenery for Shannon and Cork airports and the Cork city area.

Also, since I do not fly the tail-dragging Tiger Moth biplane, I wanted to scope out the ICON A5 engine RPMs for a range of cruise speeds that may be selected during the event.

On a previous day, I practiced the ICON A5’s “slow flight” at 45 KIAS (flaps 15) and 40 KIAS (flaps 30) just incase the Tiger Moths decide to use their absolute slowest “Low and Slow” (25-30 KIAS) ability.

Additionally I found a “bet no-one will materialize here” start (E-55 ) so I can be certain not to materialize in the center of the “Tiger Moth Hand Crank Party” with my ultra-modern toy and electric starter.

The mostly direct path from EINN Shannon to EICK Cork was very pleasant at 1000’ - 1200’ AMSL cruising at 60 KIAS first, then 70, then 85, 90, 97 and 105 full throttle. I did wander a bit at times around a hill or to follow an interesting road or river near the path.

Checking ATIS gave me a bit of concern - winds 18 knots from 93 degrees. Now the ICON A5 is certainly not as touchy in a crosswind as the Tiger Moth must be, but it has a huge vertical stab and rudder with a 12 kt max crosswind landing spec. Since Cork has a 07 runway, that 18 kts from 93 would only! be a 7 kt crosswind, but ATC cleared me for a straight in to 16 which gives a 17 kt cross wind!!!

Stupid me I followed instructions (actually MSFS doesn’t give you a choice once they clear you…) and gave it full right rudder and full left aileron and somehow managed not to scrape a wing tip and taxi 3/4 the way down the very long runway to the turnout to GA parking.

Interestingly, even if I had landed on 07, I would still have had to taxi down 16 with that horrible xwind.

I’m pretty sure those Tiger Moth guys are going to choose more tail-dragger suitable weather

Clear skies in Norway. So the Norway bush-trip with real weather and WB-SIM C172 can continue: ENST :airplane: ENBO :airplane: ENSH

Crossing arctic circle:

Just after takeoff I received email about new version of WB-Sim C172. I wish I got the info sooner, so I can try it. Well, another day.
Last 2 legs remaining (ENTC and ENSR). But I will fly those next weekend around midnight Norway time. I want to see, there is no sunset.
