About This File
Maceió/Zumbi dos Palmares International Airport (IATA: MCZ, ICAO: SBMO) is located in the Metropolitan Region of Maceio, between the capital and the city of Rio Largo. It is the fourth largest (size of the passenger terminal) airport behind the north-eastern Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza. It is considered one of the most beautiful airport terminals in Brazil. It's runway of 2200m was extended to 2600m and opened on September 16, 2005, as well as a new passenger terminal. This terminal (22.000m ²) follows the current tendency to redesign the terminals to shopping malls. It has four jetways with direct access to aircraft (fingers), two with capacity for new large aircraft (NLA including category - New Large Aircraft) and the new ramp system for aircraft can receive up to 19 large aircraft simultaneously.
The airport has 24 check-in counters, seven escalators, nearly 600 parking spaces and 67 areas for commercial activities.
It is the first airport of Brazil designed with energy efficiency technology co-generation. In its Central Chillers are two generators powered by natural gas, which provide electricity for the entire airport. Through the process of co-generation, the hot water used for cooling the generator as well as their exhausted gases are re-utilized, generating cold water by means of an absorption chiller.
With the reform, the airport can serve non-stop flights to destinations such as London, Cairo and Milan have been implemented three regular weekly flights from Maceio to Milan
