About This File

Grenada.

This is part seven of eight in a project building all the airports of two Caribbean nations - St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), and Grenada.

Built and tested in XP9.7, but there may be some backward compatability. Should work in XP10. But not tested.

Requires OpenSceneryX library. "Runways follow terrain" setting is totally optional in this fairly flat, non-operational airport, but OFF smooths out a couple of bumps.

If you do not already have the libraries used in this package, you may find download links in the Master Library List:  http://forums.x-plan...showtopic=90776

ABOUT THIS AIRPORT - Pearls Airport (closed), TGPG

Pearls Airport, TGPG, on the eastern side of the main island of Grenada, was the island's only airport until the early 1980s, when Cuban and Russian engineers began building the much larger, jet-capable Point Salines airport (now Maurice Bishop International) at the island's southern tip.

When the United States invaded Grenada in 1983 (because of the new airport, among other things), the Marines came ashore at Pearls and captured this airport, trapping two Cuban Antonovs on the ground (An2 and An26). The planes have been there ever since, slowly decaying and sinking back into the jungle.

When I saw pictures of the wrecks, I just HAD to add Pearls to the Grenada airport collection, even though it is mostly used as a go-kart track these days. Just to model these extremely "distressed" aircraft.

Otherwise, the airport is usable hard surface, but with no markings (not even "X"s). Populated with OpenSceneryX buildings and forests.

For comparison, you can see these poor babies as they were when freshly captured in 1983 here: http://therealrevo.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/9454.jpg
