The Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (IATA code: BAQ, ICAO code: SKBQ) is the international airport that serves Barranquilla, Colombia. It owes its name to one of the pioneers of aviation in the world, Ernesto Cortissoz. It was opened in 1979 and has been in operation since 1981. The airport is located in the municipality of Soledad, exactly 7 km south of downtown Barranquilla. It is capable of receiving large-scale aircraft such as the Boeing 747, Boeing 767, Boeing 777, Boeing 787, Airbus A330, Airbus A340, Airbus A350, MD-11, DC-10 and Antonov An-124. In fact, it was at that time the most important airport in Colombia. At present, the airport is fifth in number of passengers and fourth in charge.
