Badajoz Airport (IATA: BJZ, ICAO: LEBZ) is a Spanish Aena airport that is located 14 kilometers from the urban center of the city of Badajoz (Spain), but within its municipal area, 2 next to the Air Base from Talavera la Real, also within the municipality of Badajoz, 3 and 45 km from Merida, capital of Extremadura. The airport is connected to both cities by the Extremadura Highway (A-5).
It shares the track and control tower with an air base of the Spanish air force, that of Talavera la Real. The civil terminal and the air base are separated by the runway, thus differentiating the two facilities.
Between 2006 and 2007, the airport underwent a series of works to make effective an expansion of the terminal (from 2,500 m² to 4,400 m²), of the aircraft apron (from 16,000 m² to a 30,000 m² commercial aviation and another for aviation 5,000 m²) and parking (from 129 to 245 spaces, all free) .4 On July 28, 2010, all the works were completed with the start-up of the rest of the facilities.
Furthermore, in January 2009, tender was given for the screed and resurfacing of the runway and the taxiway to the civil platform, with an amount of € 6.7 million and a 6-month execution period, already completed.
They are also in different phases to improve communications and control of the airport, as well as the construction of a new Power Plant for an amount of € 4 million .5
