ESNU Umeå - Sweden

Hi! I'm a member off a new small team that mainly will create various Swedish freeware airports. The first one on our list is ESNU, Umeå Airport, located in the northern part of Sweden. It's the 7th largest airport in Sweden. It's visited by airlines such as Aegean Airlines, BH Air, BRA Braathens Regional Airlines, Direktflyg, Finnair, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Scandinavian Airlines. It's also home to various GA activity, skydiving as well as a carting track.

Umeå will be released as freeware with a mix of our own material and some great assets from the most common packages found on the Org ( MisterX). Our plan is to be self supporting in the future but everyone has to start somewhere =)

Another plan for the future is to convert the entire "Sweden Design" package from FSX/P3D to X-plane. This package has more or less been built by one man alone, Lennart Arvidsson, but it has now been adopted by us and some other members of the Swedish community to create Sweden Design X and to continue the future development for P3D. http://www.rbdesign.se/sweden-design/

Great news! Not too many sceneries for Sweden or Finland. Looking forward to it!

Actually there are tons of airport scenerys for Sweden and Finland and also Norway and Denmark. The problem is you have to do all the conversions from FS2004 and FSX yourself, especially Finland and Norway is pretty much complete with custom 3d airports you can find at flightsim.no and fsnordic.net, all you have to do is to use FS2Xplane and WED, is is super easy but time consuming. Especially the scenerys from Finland are good even though many of them are 12-13 years old by now, most of them are done with 1024x texures so they have decent resolution even with todays standard.

The work here has been on the slow side lately due to other projects, work, school and so on but we are trying to fix the last things now. Texturing is in progress, some smaller buildings is being modeled, object placement is being tweaked, lights has been created and so on. We have no time plan but we are getting there. The next thing to dig in to is the terminal, that will be an adventure in itself.

If you converted rb-designs´s that would be great! Ive tried but without any success. I guess that you are going to do it for xp11 but still cool!

That scenery is from swedflight that was released in 2004 for flightsim 2004, 14 years ago. The main terminal building has changed a lot since.

The first version is up and ready for download here:

This has been a journey for both devs. We have basically learnt everything from 0 and a lot of knowledge has been found over time (one such thing is not to start with such a big airport the first thing you do). We have more plans for future releases but this is good enough for now :) Enjoy!

Great work for first release!

Thank you :) We have already uploaded a few minor updates due to problems we didn't catch during the testing. We have also involved a third person that will port the entire scenery to P3D.
