This Sunday, June 9th we'll follow @172MC's advice for a change and head for a more tropical location, namely Lynden Pindling International Airport, Nassau, Bahamas (MYNN). With all these recent challenging locations Nassau should be a welcome change, as the main runway is long enough for even the heaviest airliners, and the terrain practically flat - in fact, the highest point in the entire country is only about 200 feet above sea level! However, those of you flying on real weather may have to prepare for another bumpy ride, as scattered thunderstorms have been forecast for the next weekend. For scenery packages, there's a choice between two different versions of the airport, one for X-Plane 10 and another one for XP11. Take your pick. And for those with plenty of download bandwidth and/or patience, some photoscenery for the islands is available, if you can figure out how to install it without getting a bunch of missing tiles like I did.

Have fun!

am I the only one experiencing download failures repetitively for the 4 ortho texture downloads?... thanks

I have had the same difficulty. It is a reported fault but I have been able to download one ortho so far, and will persevere with the others.

Good luck:)

I had the same problems downloading the files for the orthos but got there in the end. I've uploaded them to my dropbox so if anyone isn't able to download any of the files send me a PM and I'll send you links to the files in my dropbox so you can try downloading them from there.

I was looking for some scenery for MYGM Grand Bahamas Aux Air Force Base (looks to be abandoned) but couldn't find any. I thought I might fly there some time during the fly in. The gateway scenery didn't consist of much and doesn't align with the orthos. So I put together a very simple scenery and will post it here if anyone wants to use it.

Requires:

  • Openscenery X
  • ruscenery
  • MisterX_Library

Cheers

While getting things started, I noticed that many were already on a tour and were arriving Rock. Sound MYER and that's where I decided to get started, at first trying out the Cirrus Vision SF50 G2. It flew fine until half way to next destination MYES Staniel Cay then suddenly I was getting 6 FPS. I noticed that I could get 50 fps If I looked from external view, but back to 6 as soon as switching back to cockpit view... But back to the departure, it was quite a fleet with Ostkamp leading a bunch, lead farms, surf, dino5, guyB, etc.

1754333339_ScreenShot2019-06-09at8_11_27AM.thumb.jpg.5d4fb4586807307ef5c65efb48c2fb0c.jpg1094461764_ScreenShot2019-06-09at8_13_03AM.thumb.jpg.91f8f8c9f2b256f046875395be94a248.jpg

My control buttons setup were a bit messed up a. bit and it took me a while to realize that I was in the wrong setting. This means that I didn't have brake at first and made exit turn a little fast, but I wanted to clear runway soon. No harm done apparently. I changed to DA42 and the 6fps issue seemed to have gone away. For the next leg Lead Farma left first and rest followed. Ostkamp had to take off opposite direction for lack of runway. I barely cleared runway and I think my landing gear scraped thru the tree top shortly after runway ended. We followed the islands north for the next stop, MYES Daniel Cay.

Next stop MYEF Exuma Intl. I took a bio break before we took off again. CCW from right Lead Farma, GuyB, Ostkamp, me.

Next leg was a bit odd, as MYE2 Blackpoint was on water for me.... but everyone else went to land on ground. When I followed, I simply did not see a runway and eventually touched down on the airport on water. From there I could see Lead Farma and Surf in the forest.. I am not sure why it happened like that...

my AirPods ran out of power and I tried the old headset which I had issue with weak mic. I changed back to AirPods which by then had enough charge, but xplane would not switch sound even when I specifically specified AirPods as output device from system preferences... I returned with a new headset a different time, but mic was still weak.. maybe it's the computer... as mic gain was already set to max. I'll have to keep charging AirPods on the long flights next time

Since I was away for last week's flight, I picked the easy option and started from somewhere close by this time.  KMCO Orlando seemed a good choice, especially since FlightSimExpo was there this weekend.

I purchased the FlyJSim 727-Pro in the sale a couple of weeks back, still getting to grips with it (no VNAV - the horror!) so seemed like a good time to give it a run out.

Started out from Orlando in pretty cloudy weather.

VERY bumpy approach into MYNN Nassau, rain, thunder, lightning, windshear alerts - and no AutoLand!  Must say this FJS727 flies beautifully though.

Since I started early and was ahead of the main pack, I flew a few circuits in the SF-260.  Wow, that was a flight just to keep it straight and level in this weather.

I joined the group flight down (across?) to Rock Sound in the TBM900.  I ended up turning off the real weather as the TBM doesn't have windscreen wipers and I wouldn't see a thing!

I'd ran out of time at this point so missed the rest of the group flights around the area.

Good one this week though, and I like these group tour flights after the main fly-in too, let's do more of those.

See you all next time.

Hi pilots,

I departed from Havana Jose Martin Intl. (MUHA) on Cuba accompanied by Din05. As one can see below @ghun1 was also preparing his flight the same time, but of course since he flew a Jet, and we were on Props (Aerobask Pipistrel Panthera in my case) he quickly got out off sight.

ximage00001.jpg

The flight was uneventful (better luck this time!) via URV, TANIA, JERRE, TINKY, NICKO and RELVE to runway 14 of today´s destination Lynden Pindling Intl. Nassau (MYNN).
ximage00002.jpg

ximage00003.jpg

On final approach
ximage00004.jpg

Got parked next to @surfintucson
ximage00005.jpg

After cake break some of us joined up for a group flight towards Rock Sound (MYER) for which I took the Epic Victory.
ximage00006.jpg

Due to lack of runway, I later switched back to Panthera for the next leg to Staniel Cay (MYES). Here we can see others getting ready on the runway after I had already departed and went into traffic pattern. Thanks for joyning for some legs @cyl8, @surfintucson, @leadfarma, @Big-IN, @GuyB, @bootsie (I hope I did not forget someone):)
ximage00007.jpg

Landing at Staniel Cay (I suppose).
ximage00008.jpg

Most others landed ok as well except @RAFish who somehow managed to dump his fighter into the water. Din05 logged off here.
ximage00009.jpg

Departing Staniel Cay for Exuma Intl. (MYEF).
ximage00010.jpg

Flying alongside the chained islands.
ximage00011.jpg

ximage00012.jpg

Landing at Exuma Intl.
ximage00013.jpg

Since it was already short of 18 o´clock I called it a day there while others continued.

See you next time. :)

I set off from Havana - quite a nice scenery available with ostkamp and dino5 somewhere around also preparing their flights.

I chose the IXEG 737-300 as it had a Bahamas Air livery and havana to Nassaue seems to be one of their regular flights (not in a 737-300 any more of course 😉 . I couldn't find a CSL livery so I picked Cayman Airways for the CSL of a 733. For the first time in a while everything went very smoothly, tracking along the cuban coast then up to the bahamas and finally across to Nassau.

Again quite impressed by the skymaxx clouds. Heading toward the destination I knew others were descending, on hold or on approach so I gave way to bahamasair752 (KUMI) and circled a bit before making my approach. I saw 49TE in front of me and went as slow as I could and lined up behind him (you can see him in the screenshot). He moved off the rwy in good time but by then my eyes were as focussed on the fuel quantity as anything else. I landed, taxied to the stand and my engines dies from fuel starvation!. Close call. More tanking next time for sure.

imagine my surprise when I saw Kumi's CSL - looking just like my 737-300 in bahamas air livery! It was meant to be a 737-200 (obviously for which the CSL exists with bahamasair livery no less). 😉

Thanks everyone for the great PIREPS ,

I left from KMIA in the mornign with my trusty steed that is the 737-800.

Another big thanks goes out to Vampire_T11, thanks to his files and patience I installed the suggested orthos.  I've uninstalled X-Organiser and decided to start doing the organising myself and learn more about the process.

After arrival at Nassau I changed into a Cirrus SF50 to join in on some the remainder of the day's flying to other islands, I enjoyed the group flight onwards but had to leave eventually.

What turned out not so trusty again were my CSL's.  I've deleted and reinstalled all mine.

And unfortunatley I have to leave now.

See you next week.

Happy Vapour Trails,

GuyB

So I was finally able to install most of the Bahamas orthos after lots of interrupted downloads and retries. Didn't make that much of a difference due to the low cloud ceilings, but at least the landing and takeoff from MYNN looked a bit nicer.

FJS_732_TwinJet_12.jpg

Departed Orlando, Florida in the FJS 737-200.

FJS_732_TwinJet_28.jpg

From previous fly-ins I had some photoscenery installed for the Florida coast as well, and there was a large enough patch of clear sky during climbout to get a decent view of it too. I was a bit late with the climb to cruise altitude after having to fiddle with the pressurization system, but finally got it working.

FJS_732_TwinJet_43.jpg

I was likewise late with the descent, so I flew a descending holding pattern while others were coming in to land.

FJS_732_TwinJet_53.jpg

The approach and landing went routinely enough.

FJS_732_TwinJet_63.jpg

I watched from the ramp as 49TE and GHUN came in, and got this shot of the "close call".

FJS_732_TwinJet_67.jpg

The airport was getting quite busy as I headed off for a coffee break.

SF34_2.jpg

A long queue of aircraft was just departing as I logged back on in the Carenado Saab 340.

SF34_19.jpg

While doing my control checks I noticed the elevator was stuck, and spent some time trying to figure out how to disengage the gust locks in the virtual cockpit while holding short of runway 14. After a good 5 minutes I was good to go.

SF34_22.jpg

The others were already off to the west by the time I took off, while my destination was the more northerly Marsh Harbour.

SF34_30.jpg

As it was quite a short hop, I decided to stay below the clouds to better admire the scenery.

SF34_44.jpg

The island of Great Abaco, where my destination airport was located, was luckily covered by the photo scenery.

SF34_56.jpg

After a quick visual approach I decided to call it a day.

Greetings Pilots!
For last Sunday's fly-n to MYNN Nassau, Bahamas, I decided to take the Twin Otter out for a little tour, departing from KMIA Miami. When I got to the airport, my ride was waiting to be pre-flighted:
060919-01.jpg.a7a3fa9cc251091284f5b7f0cb6f8a04.jpg

I did my walk around, configured the plane--including setting the Grrrmin 430, for which I have finally gotten comfortable setting a direct-to waypoint. (I'll read the manual someday.) I taxied out to runway 08R and took off east over Miami Beach:
060919-02.jpg.79ebf42d0ccb32a54416060b725558c7.jpg

060919-03.jpg.415f45b62c77333c27a86e7f926ae13e.jpg

060919-04.jpg.f2a09f2f6ae7ad268ab7f7b2a8cfb6b4.jpg

The weather was nice in Miami so a smooth climb-out. Though BOOTSIE was on the radio at the destination reporting severe turbulence, rain, and windshear. I took a look at the flightserver map (which was rock-solid this week) and it looked like I might be the smallest, slowest airplane en route. Great.

I settled in to cruise at 4000 feet and goosed the throttle to 180 knots, well into the Twin Otter's yellow range. I need a good STOL easy-to-fly but faster airplane for these sorts of flights. I took another look at the server map and there were a lot of us on. Several departing from KMCO Orlando and FlightSimCon2019, several from MUHA Havana, and a couple from KVRB Vero Beach (I had to look that one up):
map03.jpg.4c3137faf352704d34127185064cc60d.jpg

Fortunately, as I was approaching MYNN Nassau, the weather seemed to have improved from earlier. There were a few pilots already on the ground as I set up for runway 14:
060919-05.jpg.d8e86080dd1130fd21cb5db9e3e4bedb.jpg

If anyone heard my distracted radio calls on approach, here's the story: I had mapped the F1 key in Discord to "transmit". Apparently, it was also mapped in X-Plane to "throttle back a bit". As I was off autopilot by that point, when I hit F1 to transmit I saw the throttles retard. That took my attention. I quickly re-mapped the key in x-plane and all was good.

Nice long runway, and I touched down then taxied in to park where others were parked:

060919-06.jpg.2f483b2803e46448837dd57cce5955b3.jpg

Among many nice things about flying in the Caribbean is good fresh seafood. I darted in to the airport restaurant for a plate of conch fritters
fritters.jpg.a83dd4f5c0db930d96b5c6c17ea9ff70.jpg
link: https://www.trubahamianfoodtours.com/tru-bahamian-must-eats/tru-bahamian-food-toursbites-of-nassau-food-tourtru-bahamian-eat-conch-fritters/

After that quick snack, other pilots were either on cake breaks of their own or still arriving. I decided to do a little circuit around the island. Taxied out and held short for arriving traffic
060919-08.jpg.18648034dd3da99b1bcab03a403808c4.jpg

At one point, arriving traffic was stacked up for arrival. Looked like KPHX or KDCA in real life!
map05.thumb.jpg.bc0577cbf39bb088b781d4ff2f8994d2.jpg

I took off and flew over Nassau, tried to intercept AARTIC, then overflew the field for landing back at MYNN:
060919-09.jpg.7d91f41204938082d66b2cc390a1ac0b.jpg

060919-10.jpg.f7f3d319ce17c9e75b21772c9e408aad.jpg

By this point, GAO001 was leading a group on an island-hopping tour to the east. I joined and we visited quite a few fields: MYER, MYES, MYEF, as I recall. No screenshots from those, or from the concluding last longer flight with VHPJH to MYAK Congo Town and then MYCC Cat Cay and it's *very* short runway. Almost as wide as it is long! At least, it looked that way through the Twin Otter windshield with flaps down and carrying 80 knots on final.

A long day of flying--I got a lot of stick time on Sunday. Which is good, I needed the practice as my airmanship for the last few flyins has been poor.

Due to some catastrophic mistake by me a week or two ago, I had to reinstall X-plane and my custom scenery, plugins, etc. (Yes, I now have it mirrored; not going through that again.) My CSLs--never really correct--are still not right. I have the Blubell Obj8 package and a couple of other individual ones installed (at least, the folders are present, whether they a properly installed is another matter). I see a bunch of you as big iron, even when you are flying PIPA, TBM9, SF50, or the F4 Phantom. I *do* seem to see the DA42 and F-35 fighter correctly--even though I can't locate a CSL file for either of those. Seeing most everyone as an airbus kinda wrecks the screenshots. So... can anyone point me to a comprehensive discussion/explanation of how CSLs work, how to get them and install them (the whole "can't have two versions of the same identifier, but there are multiple folders" thing befuddles me)?

Okay, that's all from me for now. Surf, out.
