Next Sunday, September 8th is the fourth week of our ten-week European tour, with two more new destinations once again. Some of you may be starting out from our last week's main destination of Zurich, while others have already made it as far as this week's refueling stop at Graz Airport, Austria (LOWG). Our next main stop after that is at Dubrovnik Airport, Croatia (LDDU) - although the fastest route there goes inland, I recommend taking a little detour back west to admire the scenic Adriatic coast on the way! And after that, the refueling stop for the following week will be Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, Serbia (LYBE) across the Dinaric Alps. Custom scenery recommendations are below as usual, special thanks to @rajo for the link to the alternative Graz freeware scenery.

Current tour route plan:

Aug 18th: Gibraltar (LXGB)
Refueling stop: Madrid-Barajas, Spain (LEMD)
Aug 25th: Toulouse-Blagnac, France (LFBO)
Refueling stop: Genoa Sestri Ponente, Italy (LIMJ)
Sep 1st: Zurich Kloten, Switzerland (LSZH)
This week's refueling stop: Graz, Austria (LOWG)
Sep 8th: Dubrovnik, Croatia (LDDU)
Next week's refueling stop: Belgrade, Serbia (LYBE)
????

gute Reise / sretan put!

Dubrovnic was beautiful, but I forgot to make screenshots. So start with Belgrad approach

Set off from Graz in the trusty old A319 again. RAJO (DERAJ call sign) was behind me on the ramp as I left. I chose to go the route along the coast, passing over the airport of Split - the only place along the coast I have actually visited IRL. Oddly enough I was there for 30 minutes on my way from Rome to Zagreb, as it was a customs stop (the DHC8 Q400 waited for us to get back on) 😳

Past the nice scenery of islands and cliffs and I realised I had done it again. Two control towers meant two versions of Dubrovnik scenery 😱. This time I got away with it, and no fps problems.

Kumi took off for Belgrade and I followed not far behind. Procedural STAR approach to Belgrade rwy 11 was an interesting U turn (downwind, base and final) and Rajo somehow got in front to land just ahead of me while Kumi did a 360 to put some air between us. SO three in quick succession into Belgrade.

I discovered the round building is an aeronautical museum (my scenery showed a 3D Caravelle parked outside but only photoscenery aircraft otherwise). Wiki told me it features an F117 canopy and an F-16 vertical tail - aircraft shot down during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999.

A good fly in,

see you next time

Gary

Evenblade_10.jpg

My Evenblade trip across Europe continued from Graz, where someone was parked in what X-Plane was telling me was a Tupolev Tu-154. My guess is it was Dino in his Falcon 7, since it's another trijet and I doubt I have a CSL for that one.

Evenblade_22.jpg

Took me a while to find a patch of clear sky to climb through, while avoiding the taller mountains. Probably should've filed IFR...

Evenblade_37.jpg

Eventually I got on top of a cloud deck, where the taller mountains peeking out of the clouds near Ljubljana provided some visual reference.

Evenblade_47.jpg

The cloud cover wasn't as thick around the Adriatic coast, with patches of clear sky here and there.

Evenblade_68.jpg

After about an hour and a half on a detour following the coastline, I arrived in Dubrovnik.

Evenblade_77.jpg

Visual approach to runway 12, with plenty of headwind (around 15 knots)

Evenblade_100.jpg

After a quick break I was ready to continue to Belgrade. The skies were getting busier by this time, so I spent a few minutes holding short for traffic before getting my takeoff clearance.

Again, finding a large enough break in the clouds was an adventure in itself.

Evenblade_154.jpg

The sky was clear as I arrived above Belgrade, but far from empty. There was supposed to be two other aircraft (@ghun1 and @rajo) on approach to LYBE, but I could see only one. I circled around for a while to increase the separation.

Hello pilots,

apologies for being late with the Dubrovnik report. Unfortunately my Nvidia 780 Ti graphics card - already exchanged on warranty in March or so this year against a used one - developed some fatal hardware defect as well during the flight so that X-Plane started crashing repeatedly and I had to give up.

However, last Thursday evening I jumped into my car, got to the next Media Markt and purchased a new Asus Rog Strix Gaming Nvidia 2080 for a about 699 € (about US$ 770). Yes, due to the 19% VAT we have rather high prices here. The Nvidia 2080 Ti with 11 GB at 1269 € was just too expensive so I had to go for the 8 GB VRAM solution. No idea, whether a Nvida 2070 would have been sufficient as well which was also available at 479 € with the same 8 GB.

Dino5 helped me swapping the card in my tower on Saturday just in time for the fly-in, so thanks for the help!:)

Now back to the report. I left Graz airport for Dubrovnik in an old tweaked Carenado PC-12 for X-Plane 10 running in XP 11. I am still hoping that PapaMac @ STMA will publish a new PC-12 one day since the graphics in the current one are not state of the art anymore. Then I could finally retire the old Carenado one.

When I was near Ploce (LDDP) the old Nvidia 780 Ti quit. I restarted from here with the new card:

On final approach I had quite some issues since the tweaked engine settings would not let me reduce power below 70% in flight mode, so I had to cut back on the condition lever which finally went to an engine out. Oops. :oJust before crashing I could re-ignite it and landed safely without breaking the aircraft.

To be continued in next report :)
