Kumiankka
link to fly-in index thread Quote Next Sunday, July 5th we have another scenery treat in store for you, as we revisit Taipei, Taiwan after over 11 years. This time however, our main destination won't be the larger Taoyuan International (RCTP) that we visited in 2009, but the smaller but still active Taipei Songshan Airport (RCSS) surrounded by the Taipei city center and located practically in the shadow of the massive Taipei 101 skyscraper. The single 8500-foot-long runway should be sufficient for most aircraft, although in a heavy you might be in for a challenge, with the surrounding urban area leaving not much margin for error. I've linked scenery for the larger Taoyuan Int'l (RCTP) as well in case you want to visit it, and when installing the Songshan (RCSS) scenery consider downloading the alternative "lite" version if your computer setup isn't up for the task - mine certainly isn't! Have a nice trip - 順行 New pilots are always welcome, read the guide below by @bootsie to get started: How to connect to X-FlightServer Be considerate towards your fellow pilots, and above all, have fun! I also finally got swift working - at least I can see myself on the xflightserver.net tracker. Will find out if its working correctly on Sunday! And Happy 4th for those from USA!
cyl8
started from Taichung RCMQ to RCSS in the PC12. Yes I am trying to get familiar with this craft and am only scratching its surface. I cannot imaging you guys are flying all kind of crafts RCMQ appears to be a military base, with civilian terminal added like after thought, because it's super far from the runway and have to go thru the military structures bunkers to reach runway. Anyways, took off and set corse toward RCSS. It was uneventful and scenery was nice. It is a large island with coast line and mountains. flew over Longtan RCDI airport on the way. I was hoping to catch Rajo who's at RCSS, but left shortly after. Arriving Taipei ILS runway 10 Got in helo for city tour ( that tall building can be seen from almost everywhere! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taipei_101 This should be the infamous Yuan Shang Hotel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Hotel_(Taipei) In front of RCSS entrance and here's a pic I found on wiki for reference Toward Taipei 101 ( that tall stick building ) I spotted this funky looking building with heliport on top, but unfortunately it's not made solid. I noticed several rooftop heliports but none were solid, with. exceptions of two helipads placed on 2 identical looking buildings. A memorial with Taipei 101 in the background - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Yat-sen_Memorial_Hall_(Taipei)#/media/File:SYS_Memorial_from_sky.jpg heading back toward RCSS and explored area north of airport. Found a nice park and apparently a mall with a big wheel. back to RCSS helipad Unfortunately I didn't get chance to check out the swift client... maybe next time

Kumiankka
Great details from the scenery @cyl8 - I only had the lite version of the scenery installed as my 2015 iMac can't handle the full version. Started out from Hong Kong like many others, but from the old Kai Tak Airport rather than the current one, flying an equally old Airbus A300. Cheated with the time of day as usual for these time zones. The cruise east to Taiwan took about an hour, following the coast. As I arrived in Taipei, the approach to runway 10 was busy but X-Ivap was glitching and not rendering the traffic ahead of me, so I had to pay close attention to the radio calls to make sure we had enough separation. ILS final to runway 10 Touching down... ...and parking at the gate I spent a while looking for any other local liveries in the download manager, until I found this EVA Air Cargo one for the MD-11. By this time the airport was already pretty deserted, with just a few of us left. Taking off from 10 Climbing out and setting course for Shanghai, while @rajo takes off in the background Turning north to follow the coast again As I arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao, the visibility was too low to see any of the city's skyline. Thanks to the ILS the landing was routine despite the low visibility, and relatively high crosswinds didn't affect the MD-11 much either. I headed for the ramp to log off, with almost everyone else already gone as well.
