Kumiankka
link to fly-in index thread Quote This upcoming Sunday, March 28th promises a destination with a tongue-twister of a name, at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport, Bavaria, Germany (EDMO). Classified as a "Sonderflughafen" or special airport, Oberpfaffenhofen is currently a research site for German aerospace agency DLR, and hosts mission control facilities for the Columbus module of the International Space Station. Previously it was also a factory site of the now-defunct Dornier Flugzeugwerke, and it was here that their Dornier 228 aircraft made its first flight exactly 40 years ago, on March 28th 1981. A single runway of 7500 feet is available, with instrument approaches only from the runway 22 end. No custom scenery to my best knowledge, although the gateway scenery bundled with X-Plane 11 should be accurate and detailed enough. And if you want to try out the Dornier 228 for the occasion, a wide variety of variants are available for free at the Aeropedro Hangar, or you can instead opt for the payware Do 228 offered by Carenado. Have fun - viel Spaß! New pilots are always welcome, read the guide below by @bootsie to get started: How to connect to X-FlightServer Be considerate towards your fellow pilots, and above all, have fun!

rajo
I found this EDMO scenery in my CustomScenery, maybe from xplane V9, some problems there, e.g. ILS not correctly aligned, ground textures 2 m above ground... I think, I will not use it
Quintao
Looking forward to this trip, it will be my first on the newly acquired Embraer Phenom 300 just release by Aerobask. Just took delivery of the bird, will need to go through training and livery painting/callsign change before the flight this weekend. At least now I should have autonomy for a flight from LTFM to EDMO on this GA jet. Edited March 23, 2021 by Quintao
rajo
I just bought it, too. And bought it also in FSEconomy for $988,357.00. joyful anticipation!
Big-IN
Here are a few IRL Images of Oberpfaffenhofen Airport. Unfortunately there is nothing left of the Dornier Flugzeugwerke except for the Claude-Dornier-Strasse and the Dornier MedTech.
ostkamp
Hi all, this week I finally purchased the Carenado PC-12 model at 50% off - I had already the XP 10 model but unfortunately they did not offer any discount for upgrade when XP 11 was released, so I had to wait until now. Dino5 and I started in Nuremberg (EDDN) which we already visited in some earlier fly-in. Dino5 had materialized a bit further towards runway, here we see his aircraft on the right side. He also purchased a Carenado model on sale, the PA-46. Unfortunately I have no CSL for it and the substitute was sunken in ground a bit. This aircraft is quite similar to the PC-12, one turboprop engine, pressurized cabin, propeller with beta mode, and quite powerful and fast. Finally departing EDDN after suffering an X-Plane CTD on load. I went direct over the city, Dino5 took an official SID. The castle is visible in the background. Flight went roughly via official approach via VOR Maisach to runway 22 of EDMO. After 3 unsuccessful trials yesterday at EDDN, I managed to have a good and soft landing this time. This airport is a special one for research and a bit business, formerly Fairchild Dornier was making aircraft here as well. An Aviation and Space research institute and control of Galileo satellite system is located near the airport, if I am informed correctly. The village name "Oberpfaffenhofen" translated means "ober = upper", "Pfaffe = Priest" and a "Hof" is kind of a farm (agriculture). The suffix "hofen" is often found for villages in Germany. This also explains why the "coat of arms" of that village looks like this https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberpfaffenhofen#/media/Datei:Wappen_Oberpfaffenhofen.png consisting of a priests hat and 2 Shepherds staffs (at least that is what I read from the symbols). This is the airport from the opposite site. A small street is very close nearby, directly at one end of the runway. This location with a traffic light can be seen in one of the images provided by @Big-IN in the previous post. After cake break, we did a final flight to Stuttgart Airport (EDDS) which is also not far away. Closely nearby there are 3 lakes, the Lake Ammer, Lake Pilsen and Lake Woerth (left to right). Approach Stuttgart airport, runway 25. Got parked here already, when Dino5 arrived (the small red one just entering the parking area). I had mapped his aircraft to show up as another PC-12. This was his earlier landing. Wrt. question by @Quintao : German free television (I mean the "free" channels based on commercials) has stopped to transmit Formula 1 events after 30 years. Hence I am no longer able to attend virtually, since Pay TV is much too expensive (unless one is generally a big fan of other sport events like soccer). But I will have a look at summaries available on Internet. The guys in Switzerland and Austria are still able to get it via TV. Hope to see at least some of you next week (maybe you are busy elsewhere due to the Easter days). 🙂 Edited March 28, 2021 by ostkamp
Quintao
Started "cold and dark" on the newly acquired Phenom 300 at Istanbul New Airport, the location from the previous fly-in. The route chosen by Navigraph for the fly-in was: LTFM/18 VADE3H VADEN Y520 UTEKA DCT TUVAR DCT BEDOX DCT KLAGY DCT NINUR NINU1B EDMO/OBIKA.I22 Taxied past the main terminal on my way to the RWY 18, busy Sunday morning for the Turkish airline. Lined up on RWY 18, took off following the departure procedure which circled around the airport above 3,500ft. Good-bye Turkey! I am still learning my way around this plane, I somehow burnet too much gas on the climb and ended up having to "cheat" and put extra gas while in flight in order to complete this 900nm flight. Should not have been the case given that this plane has at least twice as much in range. After crossing many airspaces, including Bulgarian, Croatian and Austrian prior to crossing into Germany. Enjoyed descending over the Alps while in Austria. Aerobask did a great job modeling the Phenom 300. Flew the STAR procedure for RWY 22 into EDMO, flying over some nice lakes and at 5,000 ft over Munich on downwind for the approach. Left base and the final on RWY 22 for Oberpfaffenhofen. Landed safely while @rajo was holding short for RWY 22 going to take delivery of his Phenom in Munich. Parked the Phenom and switched to the Kodiak for a quick flight to Innsbruck, back to Austria. Had to hold short on 22 waiting for @CHASMAN2014 to land and also Merlin. Took off 22 and short 50nm flight into LOWI RWY 26. Welcome to Innsbruck! Looking forward to the next fly-in!

It was a nice race strategy by Mercedes to finish in first place and third place. One can say there was a bit of luck involved as well after Verstappen ceded the first position back to Hamilton for what was said to be an unfair overtake on the last few laps. 😂

Kumiankka
This weekend my aircraft selection was less varied as usual, just different variants of Dornier aircraft, and mainly the 228 per the occasion. Starting out from Berlin Brandenburg, I picked the Carenado Do 228 in DLR livery for the first flight. My route took me past Nuremberg, a fly-in destination we visited as recently as last year. Several altitude changes were required to avoid cloud formations, keeping me busy enough throughout the flight. The airspace at Oberpfaffenhofen was very busy around the time I arrived, so I flew two circuits around a holding pattern at Maisach VOR before starting my own ILS approach. Next, I switched to another Dornier aircraft that was the precursor of the 228, the Do28E TNT prototype fitted with the supercritical wing of the 228. Before getting airborne, I bumped around some of the airport structures due to forgetting to switch on the hydraulic pump, as some may have noticed from my erratic taxi route. After gaining enough altitude, I put the prototype through some maneuvers intended to test its handling, including stall characteristics here. The test flight lasted only about 15 minutes, after which I flew a visual circuit to return to EDMO. I then loaded up the Aeropedro Do 228-100, painted in the livery of Norwegian airline Norving which was the first to fly the type. Flying a circuit around various waypoints nearby, I set myself the goal of getting up to the Do-228's service ceiling of 25000 feet. @Vega66 showed up to observe as I continued the sluggish climb that took as long as 15 minutes to complete. The airport was already looking pretty empty as I returned for another visual approach. For one last flight of the evening, a short hop to adjacent Munich Int'l, I picked the Fairchild-Dornier 728 Jet, a prototype airliner that was nearly ready to enter service when the manufacturer went bankrupt in 2002. Both the visual model and flight model for the aircraft were rather bare-bones - I had to help the autopilot along using rudder when making the turns. But considering the real aircraft never even flew, one can't be too picky. In the background, the lights of one of our later arrivals can be seen, a Concorde going by the callsign Alliance 135, inbound from Istanbul. Finally I flew a sunset ILS approach to EDDM runway 26L. Despite the earlier autopilot issues the approach mode tracked both the localizer and glideslope well enough. After taxiing to the maintenance hangar I finally logged off from an already empty server.
pugwash
So I started out at Cologne-Bonn EDDK with the Toliss a319 in Lufthansa livery. After taxiing out, I lined up on Runway 14L and took off. Climbed up to FL230 and settled in to enjoy the flight. Eventually arrived at my descent stage and then flew base before turning for long final. Unfortunately someone was ahead of me for Runway 22 so after failing to make contact with them, I readjusted and gave them room and time to land. But they were flying much slower than I had anticipated so after finding them still on the glide slope, I turned away for a large circuit to try another approach. When I eventually found glide slope again, my controls began to fail to respond and I could not slow down. Over shot the runway end and ploughed some fields and ended up in the trees. Prayers please. After re-spawning at parking bay of EDMO, I changed planes to the Evektor EV55. Planned a short hop over to Munich EDDM. This time I managed a good landing on runway 26R with no control problems. Parked up and let passengers out. When I logged out there were just a few online. Edited March 29, 2021 by pugwash
rajo
As I mentioned, I bought the Aerobask Phenom 300 not only in the org-store, but in FSE for less than 1 Million, too. It was the cheapest of seven offers. Unfortunately, this bargain was not in Europe but in the Midwest of the USA. In order to take part in the Fly in Oberpfaffenhofen, I have to transfer it to Europe in a few flights. 2021/03/27 17:49:51 EIDW EDDM D-RAJ300 Embraer Phenom 300 02:12 747 $9,763.17 View 2021/03/26 04:04:57 BIKF EIDW D-RAJ300 Embraer Phenom 300 02:19 810 $14,272.34 View 2021/03/26 01:05:51 BGKK BIKF D-RAJ300 Embraer Phenom 300 01:07 383 $880.92 View 2021/03/25 18:08:55 BGBW BGKK D-RAJ300 Embraer Phenom 300 01:06 346 ($871.10) View 2021/03/25 02:18:38 CYQX BGBW D-RAJ300 Embraer Phenom 300 02:20 798 $15,585.51 View 2021/03/24 20:52:12 CYUL CYQX D-RAJ300 Embraer Phenom 300 02:20 808 ($3,744.26) View 2021/03/24 17:20:44 KIKV CYUL D-RAJ300 Embraer Phenom 300 02:39 890 $17,840.70 View 2021/03/23 21:02:12 KIXD KIKV D-RAJ300 Embraer Phenom 300 00:50 182 $5,310.32 View 2021/03/23 19:16:26 K83 KIXD D-RAJ300 Embraer Phenom 300 00:29 77 $2,890.97 View You can move the shutters and fold out the tables A novelty that I have only seen so far in the Microsoft 2020 flight simulator is the "New Synthetic Vision technology by OscarPilote". With such a transfair across the Atlantic, it is almost impossible to avoid a stopover (in FSE) in KULUSUK Finally I reached Munich, but there was no FSE order for Oberpfaffenhofen, so I left the plane there for now That was the end of FSE for the time being. For the FlyIn I took a DLR Do228 in Dresden and flew it to Oberpfaffenhofen. There was quite a lot going on there and I had to thread my way in carefully Then I wanted to fly to Munich to pick up the Phenom 300, but had to wait at the holding point until a colleague had landed and another had taken off. The weather on the way left nothing to be desired In Munich, I wanted to put the newly acquired SAM Follow me to use. Unfortunately, this plug-in had difficulties determining where I was. Then finally with the Phenom to Oberpfaffenhofen. The ILS landing went smoothly It was still incredibly busy There were even love affairs between planes If you want to make a lot of money in FSE, buying the Phenom 300 is a very profitable investment. schmax
I started my flight in Innsbruck (LOWI) for a short hop over Northern Alps. Innsbruck was very crowded, but Ghun was already departed when I started. This time I wanted to fly out a westernly departure through the Inn valey I never did before: But having the performance of the PC12 this was no big challenge 🙂 S Shortly before approaching EDMO from the South @Quintao was passing me on his way to Innsbruck. I flew over EDMO for a turn North and then landing on the ILS approach. Again a nice destionation. See you next time.... ostkamp
On 3/29/2021 at 8:56 PM, rajo said: I will look for some CSLfor swift: EA50, D228 @rajo If you are ok with converted CSLs from OBJ7, which look like this (D228, EA50) in Swift ... then I can give you some hints (because of copyright I am not able to share the results directly, but at least the instructions on how to do it yourself). First get the original OBJ7 CSL packages available here on the forum (applies to both D228 and EA50). Download the xptools software at https://developer.x-plane.com/tools/xptools/ (you need the previous version 12-2!) for your OS. The windows version has some tool XGrinder.exe which has to be started (for the Mac version you will have to find out yourself how it works). The old OBJ7 file is to be dragged & dropped in Explorer onto the program window. This will create a converted OBJ8 file named xxx_new.obj in case the original was named xxx.obj. Now remove the old one, and rename the new one to the original name. The text contents of the obj file should clearly identify as OBJ8 if you open it within some text editor. Next the xsb_aircraft.txt file needs to be adjusted, e.g. the new file could look like this: EXPORT_NAME __D228 OBJ8_AIRCRAFT DORNIER_228 OBJ8 SOLID YES __D228:d228.obj ICAO D228 LIVERY D228 ZZZ _CC_WHITE_BLUE The files (*.obj, *.png, xsb_aircraft.txt etc.) have to be put into some new own directory where you stored your other CSL directories for Swift. In Swift mapping tool also known as Swift data, rescan own models, locate and move the (e.g. D228) model over to Active model set and save it there. Also allow the model matcher to use models that have no DB entry in Swift Try with running X-Plane and the Model browser whether the model shows up ok, if selected (result see image above). You can also have a test run in Swift data, whether the model would be selected when this ICAO is used as input (provided matcher there is configured same way) If I remember correctly I described the last steps in the guide I recently posted in some earlier fly-in thread. If you ever find high resolution OBJ8 models elsewhere, please keep me posted. Good luck Edited April 1, 2021 by ostkamp
