Quote

Our quest for clear skies continues next Sunday, May 2nd with another surprise destination that we have never visited before: Jacksons International Airport (AYPY), serving Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Two runways are available, although 14R/32L is significantly shorter than the main runway 14L/32R, so heavy traffic should definitely favor the latter. And should our run of bad luck with the weather continue, watch out for those high mountains to the northeast!

See you later - lukim yu bihain!

New pilots are always welcome, read the guide below by @bootsie to get started:
How to connect to X-Flightserver

Or to connect using the new Swift client, see this tutorial by @ostkamp:
Swift client quick reference guide (pdf)

Be considerate towards your fellow pilots, and above all, have fun!

Started this morning in Jayapura, Indonesia at the  WAJJ airport modeled by @ruifo

spacer.png

spacer.png

My choice for flight, given the long distance of almost 800nm, was the newly released BAE 146, hence my callsign today of whisper-jet-146.
spacer.png

spacer.png

I was flying the BAE146-100 variant, which is the smaller of the 3 available. My choice of livery was the Formula 1 management plane, G-OFOM and as you can see by the real one, it looks outstanding.

spacer.png

Departed from RWY 12 at WAJJ. Ceiling was at about 8,500ft.

Half on my flight was on Indonesia airspace, the other half on Papua New Guinea. Before entering PNG airspace, flew 29,000ft  over Merauke where you can see the MKQ airport runway below.

spacer.png

About 2 hours later, started to descend when I was about 75nm from the AYPY fly-in destination. As @ghun1 mentioned on the voice channel, the speed break on the BAE-146 is great, its location is a little unconventional.

spacer.pngspacer.png

spacer.png

I thought I was going to be one of the last ones to arrive but in reality many of us arrived at the same time, so I went for a go around and landed after Angus and Gary. Went past Gary on the opposite direction before joining final for RWY 14L for the second time.
spacer.png

spacer.png

Second time went as planned, could see many names present on the field. Ended up using much of the runway to break without the assistance of the airbrakes, still need to configure that on the yoke.

spacer.png

Unfortunately, the server kicked all of us out about this time so no group pictures on the ground for me. Enjoyed the new plane very much. Still lot's to learn as always!

For this week's magnificent destination, choose to start from Brisbane, recreating the PX4 (ANG4) regular Flight that connects this city to Port Moresby, performed by our destination;s local Air Niugini airline,

Basically all the matches were available, including the B737-800 with a very nice ANG livery, and the usual starting Gate 82 were also available at Brisbane for the boarding procedures.

Pushback and taxi procedures on schedule, as well as the take-off clearance.

Great weather conditions, managing a smooth rotate on a TO-2 engine thrust

Great weather over the ocean.

On approach spotted the early arrived @Kumiankka already waiting on the apron for a while.

The incoming traffic was nicely high, nevertheless managed to perform the filed procedure and turn on a short final to catch the ILS for RWY 14L, just a few minutes before 49TE.

Despite the tigh turn from downwind directly to short final, speed and altitude were OK and the ILS was catched as expected, for a safe stabilized approach.

Vacated the runway and headed for Gate 4, performing a slightly unorthodox taxi through the GA ramp. Finally managed to reach for the assigned arriving gate.

Jetways weren't working, but the ground team performed a very nice job for a almost full loaded plane.

Right after many friends also arrived

The schedule was very tight for me today, so only time to grab the EVIC for an swift incursion over the mountains and head towards Nadzab Airport.

Beautiful scenery, beautiful mountains, look forward to perform more flights on the premises.

Despite a mild haze, managed a VFR approach and land at Nadzab to call the day, but not before the computer decided to perform a self restart.

Wish you all a great week.

Because I particularly like to fly the Embraer Phenom 300 at the moment, I already looked on Wednesday to see if there was one to be found in FSEconomy near the destination airport. There was only one, and it was on the south coast of Australia, quite far away: Ceduna, YCDU. But I still had time until Sunday to bring the plane close by.

Finally reached the finish line on Saturday, all set for the fly in. This morning, however, the lucrative flights for the Phenom were already gone, so I decided once again for the FF A320.

Started after sun's already up even though everyone's gone home already :) Better late than never I  said. It was 2PM Pacific Time, or I think it was 7am at PNG.

Getting engine started from RKU Kairuku when it was early and no one around. I think I woke up a few nearby and stirred up quite a dust cloud. Once checks were done, rolled it down the runway and up into the air! It has been quite a while since I last flown! The beautiful twin engine DA64 made it looked easy.

The trip was uneventful

Touched down fair :)I was aiming for that patch of asphalt but still had a bit more forward momentum and slides off on to the grass. Not a bad thing.

I am just happy to be getting some air time.

Another early start for me this weekend, although not as early as @Vega66 who was already enroute from Brisbane by the time I logged on.

F70 - 2021-05-02 13.17.57.jpg

My starting point was a little bit closer: Tokua Airport, Rabaul, another one of our previous fly-in destinations just an hour's flight away from Port Moresby in the Fokker 70.

F70 - 2021-05-02 13.36.44.jpg

The volcanic terrain of New Britain featured some impressive canyons as seen here.

F70 - 2021-05-02 14.34.22.jpg

I arrived in Port Moresby shortly before @Vega66, enough time to take a coffee break and switch aircraft before the airspace started to fill up.

P38 - 2021-05-02 15.38.02.jpg

With the airport now a little bit busier, I took off again in a P-38 Lightning.

P38 - 2021-05-02 15.47.37.jpg

My destination across the mountains was Kokoda, the site of many intense battles during WWII due to its strategic location.

P38 - 2021-05-02 16.00.32.jpg

I circled around a few times descending into the valley, before landing on the small grass airstrip.

DHC6_Twin_Otter - 2021-05-02 16.40.48.jpg

For the flight back to Port Moresby, I switched to a Twin Otter in the colors of Mission Aviation Fellowship, who operate humanitarian relief flights across Papua New Guinea in addition to their missionary work.

DHC6_Twin_Otter - 2021-05-02 17.00.28.jpg

The airspace in Port Moresby was still quite busy, with another aircraft on final for 14R while I took the base leg for 14L.

DHC6_Twin_Otter - 2021-05-02 17.05.14.jpg

There were plenty of aircraft parked on the tarmac as well as I taxied past, although probably none showing up as the correct CSL.

Twin Otter - 2021-05-02 17.25.59.jpg

For my final flight of the evening, I switched to another Twin Otter in PNG Air livery, holding short for 14R behind @rajo and @ostkamp as they were departing for Girua.

Twin Otter - 2021-05-02 18.52.49.jpg

My flight to Goroka (another older fly-in destination of ours) was a slightly longer one at an hour and a half, and I spent a little bit of extra time taking a wrong turn through the valley to the north before I noticed my mistake.

Twin Otter - 2021-05-02 19.07.22.jpg

Fortunately I hadn't strayed too far yet, and was able to hop over the mountains and arrive in Goroka a few minutes later.

Hi guys,

this weekend I did a large number of flights since I had to bring in a PC-12 from Australia mainland to Papua New Guinea at first since there was only one rentable one within 1000 nm around our intended destination AYPY within FS-Economy. I picked up the aircraft at YRMD and then executed some flights in order to take me to Australians North Coast from YRMD via YJLC and YBCS and then finally over to Papua New Guinea at CPR. That´s quite some distance for the small bird.

2021/05/01 12:33:25 YRMD YJLC VH-MAB Pilatus PC-12 00:29 78 $4,208.13 View

If I remember correctly this shows the approach to YBCS.

image001.jpg

Leaving from there over the Pacific ocean.
image002.jpg

image003.jpg

Finally reaching the coast of Papua New Guinea after a lengthy trip.
image004.jpg

Landed at CFR which is just a gravel runway at the coast to deliver some freight.
image005.jpg

image006.jpg

From there I continued to AYPY for the first time. It quickly became dark while I was on the flight.

This flight was just ferrying the aircraft to the location where I could find new assignments and thus cost me some money.

image010.jpg

Later I reset time to day and continued to my final destination on Saturday.

This flight had a destination that did not exist in X-Plane. I had to create the scenery with just a grass runway by myself via WED:

image011.jpg

image012.jpg

On Sunday, the original fly-in day, I wanted to refuel but found that the only fuel depot at the airport was out of fuel. 😞

I was left with just 40 gallons, not sufficient to return back to AYPY. So I had to find a fuel source nearby. After some research, I found I could make it to YBOI with the 40 gallons. The airport was located on some island.

image014.jpg

While down there and buying fuel, Dino5 was still airborne nearby since he was flying an aircraft which could not land here  because the runway was too short.

From there I continued to AYPY

On approach. @rajo was unfortunately close behind me since he was flying an abbreviated approach from the right side.
image018.jpg

I left the runway as quickly as possible. Here you can see @rajo land.
image019.jpg

Got parked for cake break.
image020.jpg

Later we Dino5, rajo and me teamed up for some group flight to a nearby airport

2021/05/02 14:55:13 AYPY SFA VH-MAB Pilatus PC-12 00:44 85 $1,269.91 View

I landed first ...

image021.jpg

Followed by rajo. Strangely his aircraft had some easy rider pilot on top. This must have been a CSL error 🤪
image022.jpg

At the end we had a group shot before Dino5 and I called it a day.
image023.jpg

image024.jpg

Next week I will only have a short stop due to another Formula 1 TV transmission (the last one until September or so).

Thanks to @rajo for the interesting talk about FS-Economy on Discord. 🙂

Have a good week! 🙂

this weekend I did a large number of flights since I had to bring in a PC-12 from Australia mainland to Papua New Guinea at first since there was only one rentable one within 1000 nm around our intended destination AYPY within FS-Economy. I picked up the aircraft at YRMD and then executed some flights in order to take me to Australians North Coast from YRMD via YJLC and YBCS and then finally over to Papua New Guinea at CPR. That´s quite some distance for the small bird.

If I remember correctly this shows the approach to YBCS.

Leaving from there over the Pacific ocean.

Finally reaching the coast of Papua New Guinea after a lengthy trip.

Landed at CFR which is just a gravel runway at the coast to deliver some freight.

From there I continued to AYPY for the first time. It quickly became dark while I was on the flight.

This flight was just ferrying the aircraft to the location where I could find new assignments and thus cost me some money.

Later I reset time to day and continued to my final destination on Saturday.

This flight had a destination that did not exist in X-Plane. I had to create the scenery with just a grass runway by myself via WED:

On Sunday, the original fly-in day, I wanted to refuel but found that the only fuel depot at the airport was out of fuel. 😞

I was left with just 40 gallons, not sufficient to return back to AYPY. So I had to find a fuel source nearby. After some research, I found I could make it to YBOI with the 40 gallons. The airport was located on some island.

While down there and buying fuel, Dino5 was still airborne nearby since he was flying an aircraft which could not land here  because the runway was too short.

From there I continued to AYPY

On approach. @rajo was unfortunately close behind me since he was flying an abbreviated approach from the right side.

I left the runway as quickly as possible. Here you can see @rajo land.

Got parked for cake break.

Later we Dino5, rajo and me teamed up for some group flight to a nearby airport

I landed first ...

Followed by rajo. Strangely his aircraft had some easy rider pilot on top. This must have been a CSL error 🤪

At the end we had a group shot before Dino5 and I called it a day.

Next week I will only have a short stop due to another Formula 1 TV transmission (the last one until September or so).

Thanks to @rajo for the interesting talk about FS-Economy on Discord. 🙂

Have a good week! 🙂
