Kumiankka
link to fly-in index thread Quote Summer isn't quite over yet, even as August arrives, and on Sunday, August 6th we still have a chance to head for the warm Caribbean beaches of Kingston, Jamaica. The tropical city is served by Norman Manley International Airport (MKJP), a single-runway airport with quite a unique and picturesque location on an island overlooking the city's waterfront. The last time we were here in 2006, Air Jamaica was still the national airline, but they have since been acquired by Caribbean Airlines which now uses Norman Manley Int'l as one of its hubs. Once again prolific scenery author @ruifo has developed an excellent freeware package, compatible with X-Plane 11 and above. Have fun, or as they say in Jamaica: kick up rumpus!   New pilots are always welcome, just read the guide on how to get started! ostkamp
Hello again, this day I was on a FS-Economy trip. Had to rent a Citation-X first at KDCA (Ronald Reagon Washington National) and ferry fly it to KADW (Joint Base Andrews) for the real trip,. As you can see, ferry flying is really expensive for the very short distance. Date From To Aircraft Type Duration Distance Earnings 2023/08/06 11:08:32 KDCA KADW N-546NR Cessna Citation X 00:24 8 -$917.34 2023/08/06 13:05:14 KADW MKJP N-546NR Cessna Citation X 03:00 1255 $10,025.73 Taxiing from RR Nation to runway 01. On final to Joint Base Andrews, runway 19R. After embarking the passengers, taxied to 19R again for takeoff to Kingston. The flight remained generally uneventful, mostly had full cloud deck below. Here we were breaking to the clouds on climb. Flight took place at FL400 with Mach 0.8-0.9 with max time warp enabled. Towards Jamaica, on descent the cloud coverage was reduced, here flying over the mountains. Had to stay above 9000 ft. On approach to runway 30 of Kingston airport with RNAV approach, on this side there was no ILS available. The airport was hidden behind the cloud right in front of the aircraft. The call signs helped as a marker. On final here. I landed a bit to the left side, but with the gears still on the concrete as it seems. Taxied to parking. Looks like the airport is on the small island just connected by a street to the main Jamaica. And the runway is also surrounded by water. Others were already in, like @DrTuro, @Kumiankka, @CHASMAN2014 and Paulo. For some sightseeing I took a Cessna with floats and went to mainland. When I attempted a water landing the aircraft suddenly flipped over to the left and sank.😞 Finally before @Big-IN arrived in his Rutan Pond Racer I went up with the Mach Bully to watch his landing. I still cannot land this thing myself, but anyway. Din05 made it down on 2nd attempt after one crash. See you next time! 🙂  Edited August 6, 2023 by ostkamp
joscha66
Hello to everyone who made it to MKJP today! This has been the first fly-in ever for me and definitely not the last one - I really enjoyed flying with you guys. Looking forward to the next! Happy landings, Joerg PS Just a screenshot while at cruise level. I've completely forgotten to take some 'touristic'😉 pictures while on the ground at Kingston. Nice and smooth flight from Havana to Kingston. Now I'm heading south touring the whole world in the little Viperjet.
F5Chaser
Welcome to the Fly-Ins @joscha66! Great to have you! I started my flight in Nassau (MYNN). The smaller aircraft have been catching my attention lately but with a 443 nm flight plan this was time for the Boeing 767. A couple scattered clouds dotted the sky this morning on a beautiful day in the Bahamas. In about an hour I was descending into Jamaica planning on the RNAV approach to runway 12. I entered a brief hold at the initial approach fix to allow @ghun1 to gain a few more miles. The landing was good and the passengers were applauding in the background. @rajo was next and slightly to high and fast to make it the first time. @MerlinEng landed shortly afterwards while I was finishing the shutdown. Next I switched to the Cirrus SR-22 for some quick sightseeing. Rajo landed and was taxiing back as I joined the line for departure behind @CHASMAN2014. I made a few circuits around the coast and followed @gp4tom in on approach before joining the downwind to land runway 30. See you next week!

For the outbound flight, however, I only found a B738 (B737 MAX) in FSE, but it is similar enough to pass as an A320 in FSE. Not only in FSE, also in swift I declared the A320 as B738, so you can admire me in this livery, which I could discover in my swift models only as B738.  After performing the update, I had to restart xplane 3 times until various errors, some of which were also related to copy protection, disappeared Good bye, Grenada Hello, Jamaica Finally at the gate. Before that, a lot of things went wrong: the ILS was not right at all, neither laterally nor vertically, I was much too high, wanted to land manually, but still had 180 nm/h on it at the landing point and had to do a GoAround. One malheur chased the other, it went only mouse control, but I found no way to press the HDG button so that the course would be snapped to the real flown course (top / front in the PFD). Quintao
Started this morning on my home state of Florida aboard the Phenom 300 E55P from Embraer at the capital of the Conch Republic, Key West International Airport (KEYW) modeled by Orbx (I'm the plane on the background with the Nav lights turned on).  Taxied to RWY 09 at Key West.   Took off with no delay, climbing at a fast rate on this beautiful morning.  Turned east and headed to the Caribbean once past the Navy base just north of the airport.  This was a 90-minute flight, from Key West to Kingston, flying over Cuba. This was looking like a well-attended fly-in event, welcome @joscha66 for joining this fly-in. Once at Kingston, flew past the airport to join the RNAV approach for RWY 30.   Left base at 3,000ft provided a great view of the Blue Mountain ridge (want to see a real-life arrival flying over this ridge? I recommend this video!).  Left once more for a long final for RWY 30.   Visual final given the great weather.  Saw the boat towards the end, so rather than pressing the break, left the aircraft roll all the way to the end.  Cleaned the landing configuration once cleared of RWY 30, with the nice scenic boats in the background.  @Kumiankka was landing on a B727 once I was taxing to the ramp.  @Vega66 was already by the gates on a beautiful Air Jamaica livery.  Jamaica flag flying proudly at the Kingston airport with Kumi (Fedex livery), Vega and myself.  Next to land were @CHASMAN2014, and @DrTuro, great liveries as well.  The sceneries by @ruifo are always an eye candy.   Went for a coffee break and manage to snap a picture of @Big-IN, @ostkamp, @rajo, and @F5Chaser. All at different stages of landing, taxing, fly-by, etc.  From the Phenom 300, I took a picture of my Vision Jet (swift displaying it in different colors).  So I hopped aboard the Vision Jet, on MSFS, with the intent of flying to Princess Juliana TNCM.  Took off RWY 30 and did an 180-degree turn to head east.  Good-bye, Kingston! Climbing to FL250.   The last pictures below are the Jamaica Island (the moon can be seen too), and looking ahead at Haiti (very realistic water reflects too), for what I planned to be close to 3 hours of flight. Well. those were my intentions, but maybe this idea of jumping from X-plane 12, and getting into a long flight on MSFS with VR without a reboot wasn't a great idea. I didn't suffer a dreaded CTD or a BSOD, it was a complete shutdown and rebooted to MB BIOS! Never seen this before, no logs or evidence to be gathered of why it happened, nothing even on Event Viewer from Windows! Maybe the video card got too hot? Maybe incompatibility with the motherboard? Decided to update all Bios to the latest versions and hope for the best, at least the system restarted and has been running just fine. Let me know if you guys have any experience with a system that just failed completely and restarted in the BIOS. Kumiankka
Great shots from Jamaica everyone - and a big welcome to @joscha66!  Started out from Aruba in the FJS 727-200 (in a retro Air Jamaica livery), just after sunrise local time.  Heading northwest for the approximately one-hour cruise to Jamaica  I'd initially planned on a runway 12 arrival due to the instrument procedures available, but switched to a 30 visual approach in order to not break up the arrival flow too badly.  Hit a bit of turbulence on final, and floated a long way down the runway before touching down. Luckily there was plenty of runway available! @Vega66 already parked at the terminal in the background.  Parked at the gate, watching @CHASMAN2014 arrive in a Caribbean 737  More pilots arriving during coffee break: in addition to myself and @Vega66, we have @ostkamp barely visible buried under one of the jet bridges, @F5Chaser just arriving… and somehow, two copies of @Quintao on the left side! Which one is real and which one the impostor?  Amid the confusion I switched to a smaller and simpler aircraft, the Carenado Piper Archer. I appeared at the GA ramp next to what looked like a Red Arrows Hawk.  @MerlinEng arrived in his massive C-17 just as I was taxiing for departure  Heading west across the city revealed some interesting sights. It looked like an entire US carrier group had decided to park in Kingston Harbour! Either that or the Jamaican Coast Guard has suddenly received a lot of new equipment!  As I continued inland towards Sangster Int'l in Montego Bay, I saw @rajo starting his second approach attempt to Kingston after an initial go-around  Arriving in Montego Bay…  …and down on the ground, looking for the GA parking  Starting a quick return trip in a Caribbean 737  Crossing the hills just high enough to stay out of harm's way  Kingston was covered by slightly lower clouds as I started the approach to runway 12  Again, used up a lot of runway but made it down on the first try, and parked next to Vega who was still sitting at the gate  The idea of flying to St Maarten was tempting, but the trip was quite long and the evening already almost spent. Instead, I switched to a Bell 429 to see what the hype was all about.  Just a couple of minutes exploring the city and I could see why this one was a popular choice for our recent helo visit to Sealand. Really smooth handling and a nice looking model too, especially for freeware!  Seeing all those warships parked in the harbor gave me an idea…  Made it! And even though the pad was even smaller than the one in Sealand, the landing actually felt easier due to the 429's great handling. I was already close to logging off, but decided to stick around a bit more and watch @cyl8's landing from a helicopter vantage point.  One final group shot at the terminal before logging off: myself, @Vega66 and @cyl8  See you next week, and special thanks to @Quintao for sending in a great fly-in suggestion, it was a lot of help! 6
CHASMAN2014
Greetings to all and a warm welcome to @joscha66😊. Many thanks to @Kumiankka and @Quintao for the scenic destination. I started from Las Americas Porto Rico (MDSD) stand A3 flying Caribbean Airlines B737-800. Taxi to runway 35: Passing Santos Domingo off my left wing: Approaching Jamaica Island: Right turn to final for Norman Manley runway 30: On final for 30, came in slightly hot but decided to land anyway. Unfortunately I bounced a bit on the runway.   Little scenic run of the island in the EV55: Back at Norman Manley caught a glimpse of @Quintao: @Kumiankka parked at the stand in a nice looking B727: And @Vega66 parked between my B737 and @Kumiankka B727"  @ostkamp pulling up to the stand:  @F5Chaser in the stretch limo, parked at the stand: Thanks for another fun day of flying. All the best, Chas   Edited August 7, 2023 by CHASMAN2014

Vega66
Hi, all Great Pireps with lots of great shots.. I started from @Quintao homebase at St. Augustine, with the Toliss A321 dressed with a former air Jamaica livery. Cleared to taxi and depart from RWY 31, slowly rolled over the tiny taxiways. a few seconds to spool up the engines and roll for take off. Nice views over the airport, where I believe I spotted @joscha66 (welcome, so glad to have you joining the fly-In) also warming up a very nice Viperjet. Climbing to FL350, passing Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach. Approaching Havana airspace, the skies around the Caribbean were already very busy Descending towards Norman Manley Intl , was cleared for a RNAV approach towards RWY30. Looking at the coastline shapes below by the default XP12 terrain, I guess that this area still deserves some investment in additional ortho generation. This RNAV approach is performed over the nearby mountains, following altitudes that triggered several terrain warnings. Finally over the water, the runway was perfectly aligned and the approach was good. Curious that I experienced the same problem reported by @Kumiankka, the Airbus tended to float over the runway, finally managing to touch down way after the designated spot, using almost all the remaining runway to stop. Fortunately I had selected autobrakes Medium, which allowed to stop just before the last exit. Taxied and parked just in time to watch Joscha's great Viperjet arriving, before take the lunch break. Unfortanetly that turned out to be a permanent break, as some unplanned events kept me from getting back as usual and enjoy the rest and best of this awesome fly-in.  Looking forward to join the next one, on a more suitable timeframe.  Edited August 7, 2023 by Vega66
