Kumiankka
link to fly-in index thread Quote The first winner of our 2023 fly-in lottery is @ghun1, with his entry of Bergen Airport, Flesland, Norway (ENBR), which we will visit next Sunday, November 5th! See Gary's original introduction below: Quote My suggested fly-in location is Bergen Flesland Airport, ENBR, Norway, and as far as I can tell we last visited in 2014. It has one runway 17-35 of 9810 ft (2990 m) ILS equipped both ways with approaches over the scenic coastline of Norway It is situated on the West coast quite a way outside of the city of Bergen itself (I know because I visited this summer), and is the second busiest airport in Norway, after Oslo, with over 6 million visitors in 2018. There are international flights (I flew from Munich going and to Amsterdam on my return) and many domestic flights to nearby airports, most usually by DHC-8, especially the -100 version flown by WIderoe plus flights by Norwegian Shuttle and SAS Commuter. There is also quite a lot of helicopter traffic serving the Norwegian (North) Sea oil rigs as well as local airports. All the local airports are small, challenging and fun to fly. Good examples for relatively short hops would be Sogndal (ENSG), Allesund (ENAL), Kristiansund (ENKB) and Trondheim (ENVA) to the North or Stavenger (ENZV) and Oslo (ENGM) to the South/East. There is a decent Gateway scenery and the payware by Aerosoft (https://store.x-plane.org/Bergen-Airport-Norway--ENBR_p_644.html) is excellent and the one used for my screenshot. Another payware is also available from JustFlight (https://www.justflight.com/product/airport-bergen-xp). Have a nice trip - god tur! New pilots are always welcome, just read the guide on how to get started! Remember to listen in on Teamspeak, new channel assignments listed here: 121.00 - fly-in main channel 123.00 - fly-in pre-flight 124.00 - small talk (in German) 125.00 - general comms (non-fly-in)
ghun1
Yay great news, and an excellent start to my birthday week (A Hunter tradition like takeaway pizza, red wine and a good movie EVERY Friday 😁 Who can celebrate in just one day anyway). I shall re-enact my real world flight from Munich (LH2450) operated by Air Dolomiti using an E-195. See you there Gary
ostkamp
Hi, just for your info, there are currently 8 updates to the ENBR gateway scenery for XP12 which have not yet made it into an official release. Find the latest version at https://gateway.x-plane.com/airports/ENBR/show (a gateway login is required, but can be easily created for free). Kumiankka
Awesome choice of location @ghun1, and happy birthday! Once again I was lucky enough to avoid any graphics card issues this Sunday, but ran into a few other unrelated mishaps instead! Also, depending on how the delivery and setup of the new iMac goes, this might actually be the last of my PIREPs on the old iMac and XP11, the new Mac should be arriving towards the end of next week but on the other hand you never know if there are shipping delays. Same as last week, flew the Zibo 737-800 but this time starting out from Narvik, with Norwegian Air Shuttle livery. The cargo doors were somehow left open during takeoff! This might explain the many complaints about missing luggage 😃 With the door problem taken care of, it was time to set course south. The high latitudes caused an interesting "reverse sunset" effect here, the sun was actually higher up in the sky again when I started my descent into Bergen. Turning ILS final for runway 35 Arriving at a very crowded Bergen Airport, I believe we had 13 pilots logged on simultaneously Joining the crowd at the main terminal - rare to see a sight like this with no static aircraft objects involved! Logging back on in the Manky DHC-8-100 for a quick sunset hop to Sogndal Closeup of the Widerøe livery on departure Soon after leveling off at FL150, the autopilot threw quite a spanner in the works, pulling the Dash 8 up into a 90 degree vertical climb followed by an inevitable stall! Luckily I had enough altitude to recover, and decided to hand-fly the rest of the way just in case. @Vega66 was struggling with some icing problems in the valleys below. Arriving in Sogndal just behind @rajo, and circling around to reduce altitude The landing wasn't great but could've been worse too. I believe @rajo mentioned the approach looking kind of "flat" and this was exactly the case, I still had too much airspeed crossing the threshold and the nose was a bit lower than usual. Fortunately the Dash 8 didn't take long to stop, even though I touched down a bit further down the already short runway. Parking at one of the main stands, with @rajo's smaller plane visible on the other side of the terminal Turning the clock ahead to next morning for some extra daylight, I switched to the Beech Baron for a return flight to Bergen. Departing ENSG Arriving in Bergen from the northern direction, passing the city center Another not-so-great approach here, as the lights show I'm a bit below the glideslope Made it down anyway, the longer runway here was quite forgiving Next I wanted to try the Kilopound/MRL/troopie S-92, which had a cool local livery available too. Heading west for the North Sea One of the oil rigs looked like a suitable landing spot... ...but I could've used some more practice with the S-92, misjudging the length of the larger helicopter and falling off the side of the platform! After the helicopter mishap it was once again time to bring out the fighter jets, starting with the JCS F-16. Struggled a bit at first getting the automated flaps to retract, but eventually managed to get the F-16 into a clean configuration more suitable for high speed maneuvers Turning and burning above the city center in gross violation of noise abatement restrictions Stunts above the airport: first a runway flyby... ...and then the usual tower buzz Burning off some more fuel and taking in the views. The orthophotos around the airport led to a mixture of snow and bare ground that might actually be quite realistic for this time of year. Landing again at ENBR, the icy runway and the weak braking action on the F-16 made for a scary combination Going back up in the F-16's newer companion in the RNoAF, the F-35A Kept the afterburner lit for a while, embarking on a supersonic tour of the fjords Returning to runway 35... ...and taxiing to the hangars to call it a day for now

Fortunately the aircraft was still at its location when I logged on today. 😁 The Cessna Citation CJ4 got substituted by a Cessna Citation X in XP12. Getting pushed back. Ready to taxi to runway 01L. Due to some serious autopilot malfunction - the aircraft was ignoring any heading / NAV settings - I tried the "fix all failures" option. But it seems that reset the fuel as well and so FS-Economy detected a fuel manipulation and cancelled the flight. I had to go back to Oslo and restart from scratch. The second time, the autopilot worked ok. Meanwhile @DrTuro and @Big-IN had also joined at Oslo. During the flight I went through rain and most likely snowstorm as well, had all anti-icing measures enabled. I had planned for runway 17 which was then current. Enroute the situation switched to "all runways are good for takeoff / landing" in Little Navmap, so most chose runway 35 for landing. While I was coming in from North, some others were coming in from South at same time. But we managed to handle it. I came in close after the runway had been reported as vacated. Touchdown while Sun was setting slowly. I activated full brakes and full reverser to clear runway as soon as possible. The view from tower at the moment of touchdown. Left runway already at the beginning. While I was taxiing to terminal, @ghun1 was on final runway 35. Landing here visible through my right windshield window. @CHASMAN2014 vacating the runway. @rajo with some propeller aircraft. @Quintao in a Phenom 300. @DrTuro on his 2nd approach after one go-around. Unfortunately Swift did not correctly display the SAS livery. @Big-IN also had some trouble since he accidentaly used external tablet add-on and managed to hit key for reloading aircraft ... also had to restart at Oslo. Here seen after touchdown. @MerlinEng also just arrived. This a kind of groupshot. Some time later I switched to a Cessna C172 to explore the airport to the South named Stord airport (ENSO). Before departing with @Big-IN we held short at runway 35 for incoming traffic. @Big-IN was flying the HU-16 Albatross, but unfortunately I had no CSL for it. We both passed the destination, then turned around and landed. The runway was sloped. Finally getting parked and shut down. Hope to see you again next week in the Virtual skies. 🙂 Edited November 5, 2023 by ostkamp

So the Piper Arrow III came into play, it was still in Leipzig from the FlyIn before last. So this morning I started at Stavanger. Weather was cold and rainy Climbing. This Piper PA-28R-201 Arrow 3 has no winter equipment, so I couldn't climb above 5000 feet because the outside temperature dropped below freezing. You can go higher in dry air, but as soon as the rain starts, you have to go down immediately if you can, if the flaps aren't frozen yet. But you are rewarded with beautiful views for flying low Here I cross Stord Sorstokken (ENSO) landing and taxi to general aviation parking without any problems @Big-IN taxiing, @ghun1 and @sas269 on blocks, blue in the air climb FL35 heading north east I had to make an emergency landing in ENBM due to icing. For the last flight to ENSG, I made a flight plan that, with the help of GPS points, only took me through valleys so that I wouldn't get higher than 3000 feet, because just above that was the 0-degree limit @Kumiankka just landed emercency landing ENBM FP ENBM .. ENSG only 3500 ft Happy landings!
Quintao
Started my Sunday morning aboard the E55P at EGCC. To my surprise, the weather had cleared in Manchester since the day before. Taxied to RWY 23L and took off with the fabulous climb rate of the Phenom 300. Climbed to FL390 and flew through London, Scottish, and Polaris Centers before reaching Bergen. Once performing the arrival procedure, saw on the radar what looked like a busy air space. Decided to slow down to give everyone time to land and clear the runway. Although arrival was via the procedure, the final approach was visual in order to maintain visual separation with the plane in front of me, @rajo. Once on the ground, most of the other pilots were rendered as floating planes, with the exception of @CHASMAN2014. Here is my flight route from Manchester to Bergen and the pilots connected at that time. As Gary said on the radio, the arrival procedure for RWY 35 was full of turns. I tried to come back as the Eurocopter EC135, but my controls were not completely setup for it so I didn't get too far off the ground. Rather than spend time fixing the controls, I switched to the Diamond DA 62 and taxied to RWY 35 for a short flight to ENBL Forde/Bringeland. Beautiful sunset flight into Bringeland. Less than 30 minutes later, already had a visual on RWY 07 following the localizer (no glide slope). Smooth landing at ENBL on what gave an impression to be a sloped runway. Cleared the runway and parked by my friends waiting for a happy hour in Bingeland. Here is the VFR flight path for this second flight. See you all next week!
ghun1
Thanks for the best wishes for my upcoming Birthday. Sunday Morning my daughters took me to the Malta Aviation Museum which is just a mile away but I have not visited for 20 years. Lots to see and I had a great time (they have a workshop in which they are building a Gladiator to airworthy specs)!😁 Having visited Norway this year I decided to emulate the flight I took from Munich (EDDM) in an Air Dolomiti E195 (flight LH2450). This was the FPS version of the plane. After take off entered cloud but then broke out to find the "fixes" apparently applied to the odd cloud shapes in XP12 are not working (for me at any rate). over the Danish coast then down through the cloud with a cloud base of 5000', so not so bad. As Quintao pointed out some approaches are a bit wierd. I can see no reason for the twisty turnie routes as they do not clear obstacles, towns or mountains etc. I couldn't resist seeing who else had a similar route (mine are at the top). Looks like SAS269 had the same approach, joining later. Then parked and watched poeple arrive passenegr still waiting for Kumi's luggage to arrive with no luck 🙄 A few miss steps with the airport but the main part is fine. Only the outside is wrong should be more levels. And if you visit not thast the car hire desks are in departures, not arrivals.😳 See you next time when I'll be another year older (suddenly) Gary 8
Vega66
Howdy everyone, and many Happy Returns, @ghun1 🎂🥂 Started this Sunday from Stockholm Arlanda, on a Norwegian Air Shuttle A321. Fair weather forecast for all the flight. Loaded passangers and got clearance for pushback and taxi to runway 08. Reach hold short in time to catch @gp4tom departing ahead. Very busy skies today. Snow made a visit shortly before arrival at Bergen, but nothing that the Airbus wouldn't handle. Short final for RWY 35. A slight overflare ended up in an acceptable landing. Taxied and parked at Gate29 @ostkamp and Gary landed right after. Soon the terminal became very crowded with all the arrivals. @CHASMAN2014 and @DrTuro Followed by @MerlinEng and @F5Chaser @Kumiankka arriving in a Norwegian Air Boeing. For the next part, changed to a Skymaster to fly around the city and some nearby places. Nice views at Bergen. Then, headed for the nearby fiords, making a first stop at Bomoen (ENBM) Departed and headed north over the mountains, towards Bringeland (ENBL), but soon after started to have big troubles with Ice. Ended up losing all power on the front Engine, and had to struggle greatly to reach Bringeland. After the necessary repairs, made the flight back to Bergen. Tried to load the F16 for a final fighter flight, but found out that an update was necessary and it was just not possible for me to solve it in the remaining time, so called it a day. Wish you all great times.
Fatherofsam
I took off from Sumburgh EGPB in Manky1's Dash 8-400, but alas had a CTD a little way off from the island. I started agaim in the Phenom 300 but had the same problem. Still investigating this one. So as it was late, which seems to be normal for me these days, I decided to start nearer and in a helicopter, from Stord Sorstokken(ENSO) in the Bell Long Ranger. I touched down East side on the South Apron to avoid getting in anyone's way. Nice to see the gang grouped here. Though I realised I needed to turn off parked aircraft. @F5Chaser taxiing in. I decided to have a quick tour of Bergen. I landed back before signing off. BUt the scenery is amazing all round, so I will definately be back with some Orthos. Thanks @ghun1, happy birthday week.
F5Chaser
Hello all, I started out from Stockholm Arlanda flying the Boeing 767 which has been collecting dust in the hangar for a while. Unfortunately, that also meant updates and issues getting started. It took about 5 restarts over the course of 45 minutes and then we were rolling down the runway. The 767 was well suited for the trip. As others noted, skies were complete overcast most of the way. On descent, the clouds eventually cleared to reveal this view of the fjords. My arrival also took the twisty route to and from the southeast. The navigation charts were a great help this weekend. One last group shot I think with most at the airport. From left to right: @Vega66, @Fatherofsam, @CHASMAN2014, @MerlinEng, @ghun1, @joscha66, @DrTuro, and @Kumiankka. Happy birthday @ghun1! (Or should I say birthweek? Haha!) See you next week!
