Visa-free policies lead to increased passenger flow at Hangzhou airport

On Dec 1, China initiated a one-sided visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia.

The Hangzhou Entry-Exit Frontier Inspection Station reported that in the first month of the trial (until 12 am Dec 28), more than 5,200 foreigners eligible for the policy entered Hangzhou, marking an increase of over 50 percent compared to November, when the number was 3,400.

As the New Year approaches, the passenger flow at the Hangzhou International Airport is expected to increase significantly. It is estimated that the number of people entering or exiting in December will exceed 270,000, a year-on-year growth rate of over 28 percent. The total entry and exit volume for 2023 is projected to surpass 2.65 million, marking a six-fold increase compared to 2022, and putting Hangzhou airport seventh among all entry-exit ports in the country.

Currently, the airport is witnessing a gradual increase in international passenger routes and larger passenger flow. The inspection station has prepared in advance for peak flow management and ensured a smooth clearance process for inbound and outbound travelers.

Additionally, the station has stationed officers proficient in English, Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese, and Korean to provide guidance on customs clearance and visa-free policies.
