The Greek Destination You Should Visit, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Greece has so many incredible places worth visiting - but how to choose? Well, why don’t we let the universe decide?

I’ve teamed up with my cosmically gifted Scorpio sun sister, Sybianna - an intuitive astrologer, tarot reader, and brilliant soul behind @cosmicsyb - to assemble a list of the 12 Greek Destinations to Visit Based on your Zodiac Sign. Whether you’re a smoking hot Aries, or whimsical Pisces, check out which Greek destination we think will be your happy place. (Don’t forget to check all of your big three placements - sun, moon, rising - because it can’t hurt to have one more reason to island hop… )

Aries: Amorgos

Hello Aries, you fierce, unstoppable little ram - I think you’ll like it here in Amorgos. This cycladic island with its wild mountainous landscape and dramatic cliff sides - where Circe lured Odyssesus in and turned bad men into swine - is definitely a contender to be your happy place. Carved into the breathtaking, rugged landscape, you’ll find unreal Greek beaches, shielded from the wind and perfect for those who like to put in a little work to get their me-time. Lastly, nothing to cap off a day of exploring nature than with a shot of the island’s signature Psimeni Raki, or “baked raki”- a strong liquor infused with honey and cinnamon. A fiery spirit for a fiery sign.

Taurus: Hydra

Hydra has a reputation for being the island of poets, writers, and artists - very enticing for an aristocratic and noble Taurus. A quick ferry ride away from Athens, it’s the perfect island to pop over to for a change of scenery. Combine its proximity with the fact that there are no cars allowed on the entire island, and you’ve got the perfect destination for a practical, tranquil Taurus like yourself. Hydra is for the traveler who wants to stroll around the historic port town, while taking breaks to watch million-dollar yachts and fishing boats alike float in and out of the charming marina. Anyone who enjoys quality over quantity (I’m looking at you Taurus) will appreciate this Saronic Island with its cosmopolitan visitors and old-world charm.

Gemini: Chios

Gemini, I know you want it all from your travels - not just beautiful beaches and gorgeous scenery, but history, food, and culture - so please see: the incredible island of Chios. Chios isn’t a cycladic island, that’s a little too basic for you - it’s a Northern Aegean island rich with Greek, Roman, and Byzantine historical influence. Its location made it a trade center throughout its history which means it’s a mecca for the gastronomic traveler (think wine, produce, and most famously, mastic gum, also known as “the tears of Chios”). So just to summarize: gastronomy galore, beautiful beaches, ghost villages, medieval castles, Byzantine fortresses, the self-proclaimed birthplace of Homer, wine for days, traditional houses with dazzling patterned designs… is that enough to tickle your intellect curious Gemini?

Cancer: Milos

Cancer you kind, sensitive, compassionate moonchild, where else would I send you than the lunar island itself - Milos. This volcanic Cycladic Greek island has settled over time and allowed the sea to wash over it to create the most incredible white rock landscapes and ethereal coasts you’ve ever seen. The perfect marriage of land and sea for a little crab to feel at home - it’s a great island for the cancer woman who wants to experience Greece without the overwhelm. Let’s not forget that the Venus de Milo was found on this island and there’s nothing like Aphrodite rising from the sea to tap into that feminine energy your cancer heart exudes.

Follow us along virtually on our trip to Milos!

Leo: Santorini

Hey Leo - go big or go home, right? A trip to Greece is often synonymous with a trip to Santorini, and you’re the last zodiac sign that would pass that up. Santorini is not under the radar, it’s not a ‘hidden secret’, and it’s definitely not subtle (sound familiar?). And why would it be? It really is as incredible as the postcards make it out to be. Completely one-of-a-kind and Greece’s most prized gem - just like the sun rules Leo, Greece’s tourism is ruled by Santorini. So go forth Leo - see the white and blue cliff-side villages for yourself, swim in volcanic waters, gaze over the caldera from your infinity pool, drink the island’s famous wine, and watch that spectacular sunset over the seemingly infinite Aegean sea. A glamorous island for a glamorous sign. Meow.

Virgo: Athens

I don’t hand off my favorite city to just anyone - it needs to be a sign that won’t turn its nose up at it, but appreciate its significance and be FUELED by its organized chaos. Hello Virgo. Legend has it that when the people of Athens were deciding on a patron god for their city, they were propositioned by two Olympic gods - Athena and Poseidon. With his trident, Poseidon made a spring burst forth from the ground, while Athena gave the world the very first olive tree. The Athenians chose wisdom over the sea and here we are today. So Virgo, need more of a breakdown? Of course you do. Athena had many epithets - there was Athena Ergane (the Industrious), Athena Promachos (the Fighter), and Athena Parthenos (the Virgin). You can guess to which Athena the Parthenon was dedicated. So aside from the stars clearly pointing you in the direction of Greece’s biggest city, I think an industrious, independent, self-sufficient Virgo who gets lost in the details, is perfectly equipped to appreciate this bustling metropolis. In between mountains and sea, you have thousands of years of history and culture, hidden culinary gems in every nook and cranny, and cultural programs and events out the wazoo. Get it Virgo.

Libra: Kefalonia

An island with enough balance and variety to please anyone for the sign who thrives on doing the same. Kefalonia is a large island off the western coast of Greece that requires a car to explore, which, for an easygoing Libra, is perfect to take day by day. One of the “Eptanisa”, or Ionian Islands, it’s not so much white and blue as it is turquoise, coral and canary; in other words, it’s delightful AF. Lastly, let’s take a moment and talk about the variety this island has. Do you like rocky and dramatic landscapes or lush green ones? Are you more of a sandy beach fan or are you about pebbles and cliff-diving? Mountains or underground caves? Towns with nightlife and action or quaint and quiet seaside villages? Well I have good news - you don’t have to decide. Did you hear that Libra?

Scorpio: Koufonissia

Koufonissia is actually a pair of Cycladic islands - and we refer to the primary, inhabited, one by its singular form: Koufonissi. Back in the day, Koufonissi was for the folks who wanted to escape from the “mainstream” islands - who wanted to take a ferry to a larger island, and then hop on a little dinghy to get to the hard-to-reach Koufonisi to camp out. In fact, Koufonisi didn’t even have electricity until the 1980s. Today, it’s more accessible with daily ferry routes from Athens, but it still has that off-the-beaten-path, “get off my lawn” charm a scorpio demands. Geographically, Koufonisi is barely 2 square miles in area, so you can explore it entirely with your little crawlers. What is there to do, you ask? I’ll tell you: thrive by the water like only a Scorpio could. The entire island is basically a series of hollows that embrace the sea - it doesn’t take much to find your own little beach cave to crawl into for the day. Also, while Koufonisi may now be easier to reach, it still has very discriminating taste. Its chora (town), with its white and blue houses and hanging bougainvilleas, is very thoughtfully planned out by its residents. You will also find a limited amount of vehicles and noisy buses (there is only one), a ban on things like four wheelers and mopeds (only bicycles are allowed), and its unspoiled beaches are kept pristine by keeping developers away from installing beach beds and permanent umbrellas. Essentially, the island is very selective about how it allows people to see it. So from two Scorpio suns, I think you and your little stinger would love it here.

Sagittarius: Crete

Sagittarius you adventurous, fast-paced, idealist - haaaaave you met Crete? Ancient history? See: the Minoan palace of Knossos. Greek mythology? See: the legend of Theseus and the Minotaur. Beaches? See: Balos lagoon, Elafonissi beach, or Seitan Limani. Fine Dining: Where do I start? Wine: Yes, there’s a wine country near Heraklion. Hiking: Please look up the Samaria Gorge and pack your trekking poles. The challenge? Crete is enormous by Greek island standards; by car, it takes at least 5 hours of uninterrupted driving to get from one side of the island to the other. You could dedicate every day to a different adventure; you could literally go ski mountaineering in the winter because this mountainous island halfway to Africa has snow! What I’m trying to say is, to really explore Crete you need energy and enthusiasm because there’s just so much to see, and who better to shoot for the stars and take on that challenge than the archer of the zodiac.

Capricorn: Peloponnese

The Peloponnesian Peninsula is the large hand-shaped mass of land in southern Greece and exploring it is for those who love to hit the road. You, determined Capricorn, will be sure to take every mountainous turn and switchback to connect with the center of Ancient Greek affairs. Your ambition will guide you to ancient sites of oracles (I know you have a penchant for the psychic), the original Olympic games, and the abduction of Helen of Troy - the face that launched a thousand ships. Explore the land of the Spartans, where Heracles completed many of his 12 labors, and where Agamemnon, Nestor, and Menelaus had their fortresses. Of course, I would be remiss to not mention the endlessly stunning coastline the peninsula has; after all, you ambitious little amphibian goat, I know you can climb the highest mountain but also crave that sweet, sweet beach life. Lastly, you know what thrives in Peloponnese? I’ll give you a hint: the peninsula’s second-largest city is Kalamata. So, between olive groves, sparkling beaches, and epic ancient heroes, Peloponnese is the land of BDE and, respectfully, no one has BDE like a Capricorn.

Aquarius: Meteora

Meteora translates to “in the middle of the sky” so, aquarius, you water-bearing, floating mystical healer - pack your bags. Meteora stands out from the plain of Thessaly, which, wedged between Mount Oeta and Mount Olympus, is said to have been the battle site of the Titans and Olympians and full of mystical energy. Definitely for those travelers who want to see something more unique (um, hello Aquarius), feel free in nature, and be wowed. So, you’re welcome Aquarius, take the train to Meteora from Athens, find your favorite boulder, and reflect, ideate, and plan your role in the revolution.

Pisces: Ioannina

Sitting on Lake Pamvotis in northwestern Greece, Ioannina is often called “the city of myths and legends”, and who better to appreciate this than you, dreamy Pisces. Fed by three different springs, it’s for those who want to explore a historic small city rich in cross-cultural history, while taking day trips to hike endless trails, dip their toes in rivers, and drink Greek coffee under centuries-old plane trees. The area is particularly known for its 46 charming villages of Zagoria - sprinkled across the Voidomatis river and connected with an endless number of stone bridges that look like they came straight out of a fairytale. Definitely not your typical Greek vacation spot, Ioannina is away from the hustle and bustle of the typical destinations. Whether you’re hiking the spectacular Vikos gorge (seriously, stop everything and google it right now) or deciding which Zagorochori has the sweetest baklava, you’ll find plenty of space for you and your imagination dear Pisces.
