CUET UG 2024 Registration Updates: Application begins; check new website

The CUET UG 2024 official websites are exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG/ and cuetug.ntaonline.in.

Earlier, a candidate was able to select any two options of their choice as exam centre cities. Now, they would be able to shortlist any four of them.

For appearing in the CUET UG 2024, there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed the class 12 /equivalent examination or are appearing in 2024 irrespective of their age can appear in the CUET UG 2024 examination. However, the candidates will be required to fulfill the age criteria (if any) of the university / institution / organization in which they are desirous of taking admission.

Candidates who will be appearing in CUET UG 2024 may participate in the counselling or admission process of any University / Institution / Organization even though they have not applied for that university, institution or organization in the online application form of CUET UG 2024. However, the candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria of the course of the university to which they are seeking admission.

The CUET UG 2024 application fees will be charged based on the number of subjects chosen by the candidates. The following fee structure is applicable for CUET UG 2024: 

A CUET UG 2024 aspirant can provide up to a maximum of four cities as options. The decision to run a CBT or a pen and paper examination in those cities will lie with the NTA and will be dependent on multiple factors, the testing agency said while releasing the CUET UG application 2024 form.

The CUET UG 2024 exam duration for all the test papers would be 45 minutes except for mathematics, applied mathematics, accountancy, physics, chemistry, economics, computer science, informatics practices and general tests which would be 60 minutes.

The candidate can choose a maximum of six subjects from all three sections, NTA said.

CUET UG 2024 will be conducted in the Hybrid mode (Computer-Based Test (CBT) / Pen & Paper).

“For the subjects where there will be a higher percentage of registrations, we will bring in OMR (in multiple choice question format). In this way, we will be able to conduct the exam for those specific subjects on one day and in one shift for all candidates in the country. We will be able to use several schools, colleges and educational institutes as exam halls, just like we do for other exams such as NEET. “This will be benefit students, specifically those who are in rural areas, as they will not have to travel to far-off places for the exam,” UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar told indianexpress.com.

The CUET UG 2024 registration started today (February 27), and students have time till March 26 (11:50 pm) to apply for CUET. After this, students will be given time from March 28 till 29 to make corrections in their application forms.

City slip will be released from April 30 onwards, and the admit cards will be released in the second week of May 2024.

The CUET UG 2024 exams are scheduled between May 15 and 31, and the results will be declared on June 30.

However, students should remember that the date(s) may vary depending on the National Election Schedule.

NTA allots exam centres as per the preference mentioned by the candidates in their application forms. Since this time, NTA is conducting CUET-UG  in hybrid mode, "we will have more centres in cities, and students will get the centres of their choice. For security reasons, students can download admit cards a few days before the test," M Jagadesh Kumar said.

Last year, CUET UG was offered in 411 cities including 24 cities outside India. The city information of this year's entrance exam is yet to be announced.

CUET UG 2024 will be conducted in Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

This year, the CUET UG 2024 will be conducted by NTA from May 15 to 31, 2024 and the results will be announced within three weeks of the last test. 

Questions in CUET UG 2024 will be multiple-choice only and no descriptive type questions will be used. While multiple-choice questions may seem straightforward, don’t overlook the value of precision in answering them. For each correct answer 5 marks will be rewarded and 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

CUET typically assesses candidates in subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and General Aptitude. Each subject carries a specific weightage, and understanding this distribution is essential. Prioritise your preparation based on the subjects that hold greater importance.

There are three sections in CUET UG 2024: : Languages, Domain, and General Test. Language segment consists of two further sub sections 1A and 1B. In Section 1A, students need to choose a language from a pool of 13 languages, and students need to mark 40 out of 50 questions in 45 minutes. While the subsequent subsection extends a broader array with a choice among 20 languages.

The Domain section offers candidates the flexibility to opt for one of 27 distinct domain subjects. Students choosing from Accountancy, Economics, Physics, Computer Science/Informatics Practices, Mathematics (Applied & Core), and Chemistry will get 60 minutes to answer 40 out of 50 questions while students opting for rest other subjects will get 45 minutes time to answer.

The final segment of the examination, the General Test, delves into a comprehensive spectrum of subjects, spanning General Awareness, Current Affairs, mental ability, numerical ability, and additional topics. Students need to answer 50 out of 60 questions in 60 minutes.

I was already preparing for my board exams when CUET UG was confirmed. Our board exams were conducted in two terms and after my second term exam was held, I started focusing on CUET. A lot of syllabus was deleted from my board exams so I charted out the entire syllabus for CUET and identified my weaknesses. 

I had an Excel sheet where I added my entire syllabus and had time allotted to them. I used to study two subjects in a day. I gave the majority of my time to one subject in a day. I had a fixed schedule of study and it indeed helped me get full marks in CUET. Reviewing whatever I did during my day, and what went wrong also made things sorted.

This also helped me know my strengths and weaknesses and how I can use them in the entrance examination. It is also not so much about knowledge as you will not be required to attempt all the questions. We were required to attempt only 40 questions out of 50. CUET UG is also a game of elimination. 

I focused on the NCERT textbooks. I had them by heart at one point in my preparation. Also, I bought Oswal Publications books. The benefit of those books was that they had a portal and the topics in the books had some QR codes in them so that students could scan and take timed quizzes. I also bought Study Adda mock tests which I found very helpful.

– Familiarize yourself with the Class XII Chemistry CBSE syllabus. Know the chapters, topics, and marking scheme.

– For this session, the exam question paper will be prepared from 10 chapters.

– In organic Chemistry prepare any one chapter very well, say for the case you are well prepared with Haloalkanes and Haloarenes. The concept developed with one chapter of Organic Chemistry helps to grasp other chapters of organic Chemistry much more easily as many of the concepts remain the same like resonance, inductive effect, directive influence of functional groups etc.

– Biomolecule is a very easy chapter and requires consistent revision of just 5 minutes everyday once you have prepared it.

– In case of d and f Block elements, keep the periodic table and analyse the trends along with changes in electronic configuration. I assure you will be able to generate logical answers for reasoning-based questions based on oxidizing and reducing properties and stability of oxidation states.

– Prepare at least 10-15 coordination compounds nomenclature along with calculation of oxidation state, you will be able to solve all the questions related to IUPAC nomenclature of Coordination compounds. CFT should be prepared to explain the coloured exhibited by coordination compounds.

– Physical chemistry concepts should be prepared with the help of short notes.

– Formulas of each chapter should be written on a page and further solve all the numericals given in NCERT with the help of formulas.

– Chemistry builds on foundational knowledge, so ensure a strong grasp of the basics.

The Allahabad University will open the applications for admission to its UG programmes soon. The detailed criteria to admit students to the Allahabad University UG programmes including use of CUET marks will be made available at allduniv.ac.in. 

The IPU CET application forms 2024 for the UG, PG and doctoral programmes are available at the official website —ipu.ac.in. The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) or IP University will also accept CUET scores. However, the admissions through the merit of CUET shall be carried out after exhausting of merit of the respective GGSIPU CET 2024. 

English language test has been the most taken test of the CUET UG right from the time the test was introduced in 2022. In 2022, a lot of emphasis was on reading comprehension and vocabulary. In 2023 however, reading comprehension and English grammar were the two most prominent areas.

Although the CUET 2023 pattern saw a difference in the format of the questions asked in all other sections as compared to the exam pattern of 2022, there was no change in the syllabus of the English language test in 2023. Also, the test in 2023 was more difficult than what it was in 2022 as the number of 100 percentiles dropped from about 1.7 per cent in 2022 to about 0.8 v of the total test takers in 2023.
