PIPER MIRAGE Named "Best of the Best Personal Aircraft" by Robb Report
"While the plane is designed primarily for utility and efficiency, Piper did not overlook comfort. The cabin features roomy leatherupholstered fold-down club seats, electric outlets for personal devices, reading lights, and an easily accessible interior baggage compartment," according to the publication, dated June 1, 2014. "The cockpit is equipped with Garmin's G1000 avionics suite, synthetic vision, ice protection, and a terrain warning system. The efficient Lycoming engine provides the Mirage with a range of 1,500 miles and a top speed of 245 mph. The starting price is about $1.1 million," the magazine concluded.
Piper Aircraft's top-of-the-line piston-powered M-Class Mirage was named "Best of the Best Personal Aircraft for 2014" by the influential Robb Report publication in the USA. "A pressurized cabin, six seats, and a full-size air-stair door are unusual features for a pistonpowered single-engine aircraft, but they are part of the package with the Piper Mirage," wrote the luxury lifestyle magazine.
"This is yet another recognition that Piper Aircraft delivers the aircraft of choice for aviators throughout the world," said Piper Vice President of Sales and Marketing Drew McEwen.

EASA’s new proposals for flight recorders and locating devices

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) today announced new proposals for flight recorders and underwater locating devices which aim at facilitating the recovery of an aircraft and of its flight recorders in the unfortunate eventuality of an accident. The new EASA requirements include the extension of the transmission time of underwater locating devices (ULD) fitted on flight recorders from 30 days to 90 days. EASA also proposes to equip large aeroplanes overflying oceans with a new type of ULD that have longer locating range than the current flight recorders ULDs.

Alternatively, aircraft may be equipped with a means to determine the location of an accident within 6 Nautical Miles accuracy. In addition, the minimum recording duration of Cockpit Voice Recorders installed on new large aeroplanes should be increased to 20 hours from two 2 hours today.

TECNAM conquers Aconcagua
Tecnam P92 Tail Dragger achieves Aconcagua summit overflight on 24 May 2014. At nearly 23,000 ft, Aconcagua is the highest mountain in both the Southern and Western hemispheres. It has been a long held ambition of Mario Cardama, Tecnam’s Argentina based dealer to fly over Mount Aconcagua. On the 24th of May, Mario achieved his lifelong ambition as he powered his Tecnam P92 Tail Dragger up to 22,840 ft and over the summit. Here’s an extract from Mario’s flight commentary After several months of planning, on the 24th of May conditions were such to make an attempt to fly over the summit of Aconagua possible. So around noon I took off from RAE- Rivadavia Aerotec- Mendoza airport, Argentina, to heading for San Martin Airport (2100 ft.) to coordinate with friends (Alejo and Cayetano ) who would fly with me towards the Andes mountains to support my radio activity and watch for any developments!

At 13:05 we took off westbound climbing to reach the Potrerillos Dam in the Pre-Andes mountain range. We crossed at approx. 8,000 feet and continued to Cordón del Plata, exceeding 10,000 ft here. I then separated from the support aircraft that was accompanying me. Approaching the Uspallata Valley and across 12000 ft I begin to see the imposing Aconcagua in the distance and very high indeed. The Tecnam P92 Tail Dragger was performing perfectly. At these altitudes it’s necessary to use oxygen, so I connected my supply and I then began to monitor my body signs very carefully. I decided to cross the valley to the north and head in a more direct path to the Aconcagua and the Tecnam P92 continued to behave perfectly. It continue climbing smoothly as I got close to the mountains base at 18,000 ft. An altitude of 18,000 ft however was not enough, I had to proceed to the hardest part... to reach 22840 ft. and the summit. By now I was very cold and 2 of the 3 cameras mounted outside stopped recording. The aircraft cabin was comfortable and there was the satisfaction that I didn’t feel so cold even though after passing the 20,000 the cold had already started to penetrate into my feet but I did not give it much thought. After avoiding some turbulence and making some turns in the area I managed to reach the summit , and the excitement and the desire to

record that moment I did not realize it was still rising , this aircraft had not reached its limit. But as the pilot, I knew I was close to my limit. The severe cold and oxygen deprivation was not enough to stop me and I decided to make a few turns around to capture different angles with my camera. I communicated to friends who were down at a much lower altitude, with what to them seemed a strained voice that my mission was accomplished. I was descending through 24,000 ft. / 7340 mts. I 'm controlling all parameters of the Tecnam P92’s Rotax 914 engine. I increased the RPM’s but did not exceed ‘max’. All aspect of P92’s descent were very smooth. As I descended, I remembered all the people who helped get me here; my family for the support that I always had, my father for infecting my passion for flying and of all Tecnam team back in Capua, Italy. A special mention must be made of Professor Luigi Pascale, who at 91 is still the inspiration for all the great designs at Tecnam and without who my personal mission would not have been possible. Respectively they are the International Formula One Association (IF1), the Association des Pilotes d’Avions de Formules (APAF) and the Formula Air Racing Association (FARA).
11 internationally renowned pilots battled it out last weekend at the first international Formula One class air racing series – Air Race F1 – in Lleida, near Barcelona, Spain. Pilots from the USA, UK, France and Sweden were revved up to showcase some of the world’s best air racing in which French pilot Christian Guilie won the overall title on Sunday 1 June. Guilie was crowned the winner in the Gold Class Final when he crossed the line with an average speed of 383kph (238mph). It was a truly global podium with three different nationalities comprising first, second and third spots. Guilie was seen as the dark horse from day one of race week when the sleek plane that he designed and built himself was unveiled at the Lleida-Alguaire Airport; the expectation that the European planes may be slower than their trans-Atlantic cousins’ was quickly dismissed. The race itself was close with Guilie taking the win ahead of USA’s veteran race pilot Jay Jones and Sweden’s Thom Richard. While his rivals’ experience and maneuverability was arguably stronger it was the Frenchman’s use of energy and speed that was the deciding factor.

e-Go aeroplanes Limited, the UK’s first ever manufacturer of lightweight carbon fibre aeroplanes, has raised a second round of finance. Having set a target of between £650k to £800k, the Company has surpassed this and raised in excess of £950k. This latest funding round follows the e-Go prototype’s first successful flight on 17th October 2013.
In recognition of their confidence in the Cambridge-based company, all existing investors are contributing again – all keen to continue supporting the company’s development and expansion. In addition, a number of new supporters have invested, both directly and through the crowdfunding platform SyndicateRoom. The high-profile Governmentbacked Angel Co-Fund is also making a significant investment.
Twenty investors backed e-Go aeroplane’s launch in 2011, among them UK aerospace leader Marshall of Cambridge. Now a further sixty investors have joined the group, including a number of business angels, the Company’s chief test pilot and first British born astronaut, Michael Foale.
Flight trials and ground testing of the e-Go prototype continues and first customer deliveries are planned for quarter one 2015 at a sales cost of around £50,000 + VAT.
The basis of the e-Go design philosophy is the packaging of leading-edge aeronautical engineering with proven technology, taking
successful elements from non-aviation industries. For example, the design’s airframe benefits from techniques used in Formula One race cars, while the avionics, data-logging and engine management are inspired by the technology used in today’s road cars. “The e-Go ethos is to do a lot with a little and that will remain our guiding principle,” said Malcolm Bird, e-Go’s executive chairman. “The UK is unique in offering such a supportive deregulated environment for aircraft of this type; so new investors can look forward to an exciting time in helping bring to market a design that is innovative, striking in appearance, fun to fly and will cut dramatically the cost of personal flying.” Tim Mills, Investment Director at the Angel CoFund, commented: “e-Go are exactly the type of exciting, innovative British business we look to invest in. Their prototype flight last year was the first to be undertaken by a new UK aircraft manufacturer in years. Trials for the AW609 TiltRotor program have been completed successfully, according to AgustaWestland. Between the end of March and early April, ten dedicated flight hours saw more than 70 power-off conversions from airplane mode to helicopter mode flown from the Arlington (Texas) facility inthe USA. The tests were flown under the auspices of FAA and covered the full wind-milling and autorotation envelopes, marking another major achievement for the program development. The handling qualities of the aircraft were very benign throughout the testing and the performance of the aircraft exceeded expected characteristics seen during preparation in the engineering simulator in Arlington. Key product development milestones on the Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft program were announced by Bombardier with the start of production and assembly of major structures for the first Flight Test Vehicle (FTV1) of these aircraft programs. "The program is progressing well in the detailed design phase (DDP) with the majority of the production drawings already released,” Bassam Sabbagh, VP & GM, Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft programs said. “The start of assembly of our first major structures represents a significant step forward." The new Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft are set to enter service in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

BOEING BBJ BBJ is celebrating a big year in China with five BBJs entering service since ABACE 2013 last April (two new BBJs and three pre-owned). Three additional BBJs for Chinese customers were delivered to completion centers, including the first BBJ2 for the China region, and the order book for Chinese customers increased by two in the same time-frame. Boeing’s current product line includes the BBJ, BBJ2 and BBJ3 – high-performance derivatives of the commercially successful Next-Generation 737 airplane family and the new 737 MAX family – as well as Boeing twin-aisle airplanes including the 747-8, 767, 777 and 787 Dreamliner. CITATION X The new, higher-speed Citation X was expected to be certified during the second quarter. The original schedule called for delivery of the first Citation X late last year, however, tests were extended for several months and were recently completed. Cessna says the new Citation X will enter service as the fastest business jet on the market, beating the Mach 0.925 standard set by the Gulfstream G650. The new Citation X will carry nine passengers for a 3,240nm mission. DASSAULT FALCON JET Dassault Falcon Jet has joined the main center fuselage subassemblies of the Falcon 5X - a key milestone in the production program for this new large cabin twinjet. The 5,200nm Falcon 5X was unveiled during the 2013 NBAA and performed its first virtual flight on the simulator last November. The aircraft is scheduled to complete assembly and begin ground tests this summer, and the company says it will feature the largest cabin cross-section and the most advanced flight controls in the industry. First flight is expected in the first half of 2015 and entry into service mid-2017.

Mubadala Aerospace, an entity owned by the government of Abu Dhabi, has taken over Piaggio Aero. Mubadala has been a shareholder in Piaggio Aero since 2006. The move follows a broadbased restructuring of Piaggio Aero last year, during which Avanti II sales flat-lined. India’s Tata Industries will relinquish its partnership stake in Piaggio, giving Mubadala control of 98 percent of the company’s stock. Piero Ferrari, who’d been a major shareholder and had served as chairman of Piaggio, will retain 1.9% ownership. Carlo Logli, former CEO of Super-Jet International (who was recently brought in to reorganize Piaggio), is the new CEO.
The groundbreaking for a new completion and delivery center at Cedar City, Utah, Regional Airport was celebrated SYBERJET SJ30 by SyberJet, from which its SJ30 light jets will be finished and delivered to customers. The company is planning to deliver the SJ30i equipped with a Honeywell Primus Epic 2.0/SyberVision cockpit and Jason Castriota Design interior late next year, followed in 2017 by the SJ30x powered by more powerful and efficient Williams FJ44- 3A engines (delivering about 200nm added range). At the ceremony, actor Morgan Freeman announced that he is buying the first SJ30i and the first SJ30x.

Russian Helicopters and AgustaWestland have quietly shelved plans to jointly develop a 2.5t rotorcraft, a senior executive from the Moscow-headquartered manufacturer has revealed.
Alexander Mikheev, general director of Russian Helicopters, says the decision was taken earlier this year not to proceed with the project â&#x20AC;&#x201C; barely six months after the pair signed a heads of agreement for the programme at the 2013 MAKS air show. "At the end of March we took a joint decision on not continuing to develop this project. The competitiveness [in this segment] is quite high, and we have decided not to proceed. We will now focus on other classes [of helicopter] and other projects," says Mikheev, speaking through an interpreter.

Oil worker Heli Shuttles Boosted by industry upturn An upturn in offshore drilling is swelling the order books of the handful of helicopter operators that shuttle oil workers to and from remote rigs. Their stock prices, depressed after Big Oil's recent spending cuts, could also be readying for take-off. Bristow Group Inc plans to invest $1 billion this year to procure just some of the 300 new helicopters that Barclays estimates will be needed by the oil and gas industry over the next five years. The Bell 429 is set to continue its demo tour in the coming weeks with stops in Italy, France, Belgium and Spain as well as other destinations along the way. Bell delivers two 429s to Saran Aviation in Turkey
GENESYS Aerosystems order for 210 HeliSAS systems
Bell has announced the delivery from its facility in Prague, Czech Republic, two commercially registered Bell 429 aircraft to Turkey. The aircraft were delivered to Saran Aviation and were highly customized in a Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) configuration. London – Official Opening of the St George’s Hospital Helipad
Planning for the £5m helipad began in 2010 shortly after St George’s Hospital was designated as the major trauma centre for the South West London and Surrey Trauma Network It is the first London helipad south of the Thames and will routinely receive patients from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance as well as the London’s Air Ambulance and possibly further afield if required.
