Brief history of Lome Airport

Lomé-Tokoin is located along Avenue de la Paix, five kilometers north-east of the city center (Lomé town hall). The capital’s population has grown significantly since the airport was built, and the airport’s 413 hectares are now part of the urban fabric that has spread over time. The airport was modernized in the 2010s as part of the country’s airport, port and road infrastructure renewal project. The apron was expanded to accommodate fifteen wide-body aircraft and a new terminal building with a main concourse of twenty-four check-in counters was inaugurated by Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbé on April 25, 2016. Gnassingbé-Eyadema International Airport is expanding rapidly thanks to the establishment of the international African airline Asky (based in Lomé), making it its main hub.
