Perth Airport

So, what happens if you decide that you hate this airport and never want to use it's services again? Well, good luck because you have an awfully long drive ahead of you. Yeah, lets knock off points for it being having a virtual monopoly on one's ability to get into and get out of Perth. Then again, I doubt the airport cares, since you only like walk through it and never have to interact with any of the staff. Hey, at least they're getting a train, which is more you can say for Melbourne.

This is a very clean and well maintained airport. There are not alot of variety for shopping or for eating. Your best bet is to either wait until you get to your destination to fund food or to grab a quick convenient snack here. Security was pretty easy to get through compared to the States. Most passengers are polite and keep to themselves but will answer questions if you have any. Even the gates are well maintained and organized for boarding classes unlike other foreign airports.

Comfortable International Departure Lounge. Perth Airport offered a variety of seating to suit your comfort, a play area for families with young children, sub charging ports, shopping and nice snacks to be purchased. One duty free station was offering tasting of gin and tonic with Bombay Sapphire. Nice!

Perth airport is clean, large, and pretty.

Perhaps I'm in love because the staff smile at you, are helpful and I don't have to wait in long queues.

Also the international airport terminal 1 doesn't have that body scanner thingo that strips you down and steals your dignity.

And their containers for putting your liquids are spanking new and you can put them aWay in this conveyor belt looking thing.

I also didn't get targetted 'randomly' for traces of things that are bad.

Jokes aside - there's a few news agencies. A couple of nice food options. Its easy to claim the tourist refund tax (ie unlike in Sydney you don't have to walk 3kms to find the kiosk). Duty free shopping is adequate.

Perth airport will never be a large international transfer hub so it's hard to foresee it outgrow its small airport feel with comparably few facilities.

But, it *is* getting a bit better, with new roads improving accessibility and some terminal upgrades suggesting that the future experience may be a tiny bit more enjoyable.

Overall, I don't mind flying out of and into the international terminal. It's pretty relaxed, and you're not distracted by much. A few more comfortable seating options would be nice.

And please, can someone tell the suits that "T1" as a name for an international terminal makes no sense whatsoever!! Fine for cabbies and regulars but for most people?
What about some road signage that calls it "International Terminal" (what a concept!)?

Pretty self explanatory airport. Easy access to everything. Long term parking bus comes every 10 mins and there's buses to the city and terminal transfer bus. Nice volunteers in yellow throughout the airport. Food is decent. Prices are expensive but that's what's expected at an airport and good catering to mothers/elderly.

My family and I have used this airport to travel outside of Australia and received good experiences here. Airport staff members at check-in counters were efficient in checking in our baggage and providing us our flight tickets. Airport assistants were courteous and patient with my grandmother when she arrived here.

Although it is relatively small, the airport has restaurants/cafés, duty-free shops, and currency exchangers. The souvenir shops sell expensive products; you can find lower prices at Fremantle Markets.

Passengers who choose to keep their vehicles temporarily at the airport can park them at lower rates in the Long-Term car parks compared to the Short-Term ones. These passengers can then use the regular free shuttle buses to connect to the airport.

The recent roadworks & unexpected route change made the trip slightly longer than intended. The long term parking at the airport has a heated waiting room (phew in winter!) & the bus is reasonably frequent.
The coffee at the airport.. It really tasted like drain water. Costed way too much but it's the airport I guess..
Duty free shopping is average..

I have been through this airport many times, and find that overall, it is clean, safe and easy to navigate around.

I just had one recent encounter that made me a little uncomfortable.

This was at the domestic security gates, for a midnight flight to Sydney. There were two separate lines, one for priority passengers (business / first), and the general line. However, these lines merged into a single line at the end, of course, causing confusion. We were told by someone in the general line that we should get back at the end of the line as everyone else (it did appear from them as though those in the priority line were cutting in). It was only a little while later, when a security officer passed by, that we were able to confirm that we were in the right line, and guided us to wedge ourselves in the line.

I think the intent of the priority line should not just be for speed, but also the comfort of the passengers. It would be great if the design be changed as such to prevent confusion, and at least, not provide discomfort to those passengers paying for a higher priced ticket. I understand that since it was late at night, only one security gate was open. If it was such the case, it might have been best simply not to split the lines at the front.
