The largest airport in Rome, named after the great Italian Leonardo da Vinci, is located in Fiumicino. It is about 35 km from the capital of Italy. Getting from the airport to Rome is very easy.

Fiumicino International Airport serves more than 35 million passengers daily. It is here that Italy’s main airline, Alitalia, is based.

Founded in 1961, Fiumicino Airport replaced the already existing Ciampino Airport. Now all the major airline companies are served exactly at the airport named after Leonardo da Vinci, while Ciampino got the role of accommodating private airlines and numerous low-cost airlines. Fiumicino Airport terminals
The scheme of Fiumicino Airport is quite simple and convenient. Currently, the airport has four terminals, each of which is based one or another airline. Thus, the airplanes of the Russian airlines Aeroflot, Russia, Ural Airlines arrive at Terminal 3.

Buses between the terminals are free. If you arrived in Fiumicino from one o’clock in the morning to four in the morning, then remember that you need to call the shuttle yourself using a special button on the stop.

Terminals are divided by serviced flights as follows:

T1 — designed for flights in Italy and flights within the Schengen zone (Alitalia, AirFrance, KLM and others).
T2 — accepts charter flights and airplanes of Wizzair, EasyJet and other low-cost companies.
T3 — is the main international terminal that hosts long-range aircraft.
T5 — used for flights to the USA, Israel, Asia.

Of course, as in any other airport, in Fiumicino, you can have a tasty meal or have a cup of coffee in numerous cafes or restaurants. Here you can go shopping while waiting for a flight and buy souvenirs for your relatives and friends.

It is also not difficult to find at the airport currency exchange offices, banks, post offices, pharmacies, if necessary.

At Fiumicino airport you can also arrange a taxi-free, i.e. to refund VAT on purchases in Italy. To do this at the customs do not forget to certify the forms that you received when you buy in stores. These check forms must be presented at the Global Blue Tax Refund office at terminals T3 and T5.

How to get from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Rome and back
Although Fiumicino Airport is located quite far from the capital of Italy, you can get to Rome very easily and quickly by train, bus or taxi. The cheapest way is to travel by Terravision bus, but if you need to go directly to the Vatican, then the SIT bus will do.

Good to know: at night, trains and buses between Rome Fiumicino Airport and Rome do not

walk around Therefore, in the case of a night flight, you will need to either wait for the first train or bus, which depart early in the morning, or take a taxi or book a transfer from the airport.

By Terravision Bus
The most economical and fastest option to get to Rome from the airport is the Terravision bus, departing from Terminal 3 at bus stop number 5 of Fiumicino Airport, costs only 5 Euros.

TerraVision Bus

This is a bus company Terravision, runs every 20 minutes, travel time is about 1 hour. The bus goes to Termini station. The first bus leaves the airport at 5.35 am, the last at 23.00 at night. In the opposite direction from the station to the airport, flights are operated from 4.40 am to 21.50 pm.

By SITBusShuttle bus
Also, from the terminal T3, stop number 3, the SITBusShuttle bus departs approximately every hour. In Rome, the bus stops at Termini Station (Via Marsala), near the Vatican (Vatican area, Via Crescenzio no. 2) and Via Aurelia, 565. The first bus leaves at 7:50 am and the last at 23.45.

A ticket costs about 6 Euro.

By bus Autostradale
Approximately every hour, the Autostradale bus leaves from the terminal building and takes the direct route to Stazione Termini. It runs from 7.50 to 23.40. On the way, you will spend 1 hour and 45 minutes — this is longer than on the Terravision bus.

TTI Leonettibus bus
A trip on the TTI Leonettibus bus, which leaves from the T2-T3 terminals and goes directly to the Tiburtina stop, will cost more. Travel time is about 1 hour.

Flights are operated daily at 8.00, 12.00, 15.00, 19.45. Specify the schedule when booking a place.

A ticket costs about 20 Euro.
