St-Hubert airport, operational since 1927, has been renamed Montreal Metropolitan Airport as part of its continuing reinvention as a commercial aviation centre.

The renamed airport will use the abbreviation MET. Airport officials say construction on its new terminal is progressing quickly, with the building expected to open in the summer of 2025.

The airport authority announced in February 2023 that it had entered into a partnership with Porter Airlines for the construction of a commercial terminal with a capacity of four million passengers a year. Montreal Metropolitan Airport said that investment of $200 million marked the starting point for its transformation into a commercial aviation centre.

The airport’s main runway, which is 2.4 kilometres long, can accommodate most commercial aircraft operating in Canada.
