When digital justice meets conceptual modeling   #bestpaper #award: The unibz researchers Cristine Griffo and Mattia Falduti presented at the International Conference on #Conceptual #Modeling (ER 2022) their paper “Modeling #Cybercrime with UFO: an Ontological Analysis of Non-Consensual Pornography Cases”. Cristine and Mattia outlined the conceptual modeling on the social and legal phenomena existing behind of the concept of #revenge #porn, which have increased in recent years with the massive use of social media.    Also, in the same conference, Cristine presented the paper entitled "Legal Power-Subjection Relations: Ontological Analysis and Modeling Pattern", co-written by Prof. Giancarlo Guizzardi (professor at the Faculty of Computer Science - Free University of Bozen-Bolzano until September), for which they received the best paper award of the conference.    “In this paper, we employ a theoretically well-grounded legal core ontology (UFO-L), proposed in my PhD thesis in 2018. We conducted an #ontological #analysis focused on a type of legal relation, namely, legal power-subjection relation”, Griffo explains. “We show that types of legal power-subjection relations are primitive relations, i.e., by means of institutional acts, other legal relations can be generated from them. Examples include relations of rights and duties, permissions and non-rights, liberties, secondary power-subjection, etc. As a contribution to the application of conceptual modeling, and leveraging on the result of our analysis, we proposed a conceptual modeling pattern, which is then applied to model a real-world case in tax law.”    Conceptual modeling of types of legal relations can assist in detecting potential unfair clauses in #contracts and categorizing legal information for better information retrieval and knowledge generation in databases with legal content, just to name a few applications of this approach.    Federica M.
