Hanoi International Airport Noi Bai, (IATA: HAN, ICAO: VVNB) is located 45 kilometers from the city center.

Despite the fact that this is the Capital Airport, it is not the largest, but only the third in terms of passenger service in Vietnam. Nevertheless, there is all the necessary minimum for comfortable departure and waiting for passengers of international and domestic flights. There are counters of official taxi, Tourist Information (where it is better to immediately get a free city map and brochures with useful information), hotel reservations, travel agencies, cafes, currency exchange, ATMs, a bank office where you can exchange traveler's checks, a counter VAT refund for tourists Vat Refund. In the international zone, of course, there are Dutch-free shops.

Noibai is served by direct flights from Moscow (Aeroflot and Vietnam Airlines), seasonally from Vladivostok. However, the prices for direct flights are high, it is cheaper to fly here with transfers. Airport facilities, terminals

Hanoi airport has two terminals:

• International Terminal T2-new international terminal
• Domestic Terminal T1-old domestic terminal

All international flights arrive at T2. Terminals are located in separate buildings, not connected by passages. The distance from the entrance to the entrance is about 1 kilometer. To get from one to the other, you need to go outside. Then you can get to another terminal on foot (20 minutes), or take advantage of a free transfer on special shuttle cars that are waiting right at the exit from the arrivals hall, and will take you to the entrance to the departure hall. It is recommended to lay 30 minutes for movement between terminals.

Parking near Terminal T1

As noted above, the airport has everything you need: official taxi stand, Tourist Information (where it is better to immediately get a free city map and brochures with useful information), hotel booking desk, travel agencies, currency exchange, ATMs and even a bank office where you can exchange traveler's checks, cafes. Most of it is located on the ground floor in the arrivals hall, and operates around the clock. Also on the second floor of the international terminal there is a baggage package for 60,000 VND (approximately 2.36 USD, see the currency of Vietnam and its exchange rate), and luggage storage for 106 000 VND/day (open from 06:30 to 23:00).

The Vat Refund counter is located on the second floor after check-in and passport control, so you should not check in expensive items for which you want a tax refund (see for more information about tax refunds for tourists in Vietnam).

The main part of the check-in counters for the flight is located on the second floor, but the check-in counters of individual companies are installed on the first (in particular, JetStar Airlines).

• The arrival procedure at the airport is standard: disembarkation from the flight → obtaining a visa (if necessary) → passport control → baggage collection → passing through customs control → exit to the arrival area.
• Departure procedure at the airport is standard: first, check in for the flight and check in your luggage → pass through customs control → pass through passport control → pass into the waiting area of boarding → boarding the flight.

Immediately after disembarking at the international terminal, you will go through the corridors to the passport control area, opposite which there is a visa reception desk on arrival (Visa Application sign). Works around the clock. Here, one officer accepts documents (passport, completed application form, 4x6 photo, invitation letter, money in dollars if necessary), after which you need to wait for your name to appear on the screen, and approach to receive a passport with a visa already pasted on from another officer. The whole procedure takes 10-20 minutes. After receiving your passport, go to the passport control counters, and immediately after passing them, go down to the baggage claim tapes.

Exchange rate at the airport, should I change the currency

Unlike most other airports in the world, Vietnam's airports have a good exchange rate. You can safely change a certain amount for the first time and even more, especially if you are not going to Hanoi, but to other resorts in North Vietnam (for example, in Sapa or Halong). In our experience, the rate higher than at the airport can only be found in jewelry shops in the tourist area of Hanoi, while in banks, exchange offices and hotels it can be even slightly lower. For example, for one day in 2018, the rate at the airport was 23300 VND per dollar, while at banks in the town of Sapa was 23298 VND per dollar, that is, even slightly lower.

Currency exchange at the airport

Exchange offices are located in the arrival area, where you get immediately after passing through customs control. There are several exchangers, from different banks, the difference in the rate between them is minimal. But if you change a large amount, it makes sense to go through the hall and find the most profitable. There are also several ATMs from different banks.

Free WiFi Hanoi airport

Free Internet Access has been available at Noibai airport since 2017. Instructions for connecting to WiFi are posted on the information stands at the airport, but even without them it is easy to understand: after connecting to the "NoiBai Airport Free WiFi" network, you need to open the router, and fill out the connection form on the authorization page that opens.

Hanoi airport hotels

At the airport itself, each of the terminals has the opportunity to relax during a long docking in capsule hotels, but the prices are quite high, from 650,000 VND per person. But just a couple of minutes by taxi or 15 minutes on foot from the exit from the terminal there are several inexpensive hotels at a price of 140,000 VND per person, or 250,000 for a room for two. How to get from Hanoi airport to the city

The airport is 45 kilometers from the city (Hanoi airport on the map). Transport here is quite developed, and to get to the city center, you can optionally use the city bus, minibuses, or taxi. To leave here to other cities and resorts except by taxi will not work, you will have to make a transfer to Hanoi.

• Taxi

  This is the fastest way to get to the airport or to the city, you will be on the spot in 30-40 minutes. In the terminal and in the parking lot at the exit from the first floor there are several racks, the cost does not differ much. At your choice, a trip at a fixed price or by a taxi-meter is possible, but it is usually difficult to persuade drivers to go by the meter. Even if you persuade the taxi driver to "counter", tricks like a meter that broke down on the road, circular routes, or simply "twisted" counters are not excluded. Therefore, for a trip from the airport, it is better to use a trip at a fixed cost, which will cost from 350,000 VND (approximately 13.79 USD.

  It is much safer to order a car via Grab application. Grab is the Asian version of Uber, and almost no different in interface, but only in English. When ordering, you will immediately see the final price, and only it will need to be paid to the driver. Trips via Grab are even cheaper than when ordering a taxi on the spot: from the airport to the tourist area of Hanoi from 340,000 VND (approximately 13.4 USD).   If you do not want to get involved with local Crooked taxi drivers, you can book a tourist transfer in advance. This is almost the same as a taxi, but with an increased level of Service. Upon arrival, a car will be waiting for you, and the driver will meet you with a sign. There will be no problems with the language barrier, payment is made online when booking, so you do not have to change money at the airport. • Rent a car

  Since 2014, in Vietnam, on completely legal grounds, you can drive a rented vehicle with an international driver's license (IDP) that meets the requirements of the Vienna Convention on road traffic (Read more about motorcycle and car rental in Vietnam). These are issued in the Russian Federation, and earlier it was necessary to obtain temporary local rights, and no others in the country were recognized. Now you can safely drive on a driver's license issued in Russia. Just do not forget that the IDI acts only in conjunction with national rights, so you need to take both types of rights to Vietnam at once. You can get an IDP in the traffic police, their cost is 1600 rubles. Taking exams for obtaining an IDP is not required.

  The price for renting a car is still quite high - from $ 50 per day. Offices of international distributors have opened in the country, and now you can book your car in Vietnam here.

• Vientam Airlines Minibus (Hanoi Airport Minibus)

  As soon as you exit the airport terminal on the ground floor, you will see minibuses with Jetstar and Vietnam Airlines logos. They are sent as they fill up and move without any schedule starting in the early morning and until about 22 hours. Travel time-45-60 minutes. The cost of a trip to them is 40,000 VND, paid in a minibus. For very large luggage, you will have to pay an additional 40,000 VND, and for an additional fee of $1-2, the driver will take you to the door of the hotel. Otherwise, you can get off near the lake of the returned sword near the tourist area, or go to the "final" address: Quang Trung, 2 (Hanoi office / destination map). From there, you can take a taxi to your hotel or get there on foot. The office is a short walk from the Lake "returned sword" and 10 minutes from the main tourist area (on the map, the walking route from the office to the tourist area is shown in blue).

  You can also take this minibus from the city to the airport, but keep in mind that they are sent by occupancy, and therefore it is better to come in advance, with a time limit of at least one hour. You can also buy tickets in advance at the office at the "final" address: Quang Trung, 2.but in fact, it is not very convenient to use this minibus to travel to the airport, since there is a cheaper option – the city bus express No. 86 (see about it below), which runs stably on schedule and costs less.

• City buses

  This is the cheapest way to get to the city center. Cost 9000 VND-from 9000 VND (0.35 rub), plus the same amount for luggage, if it is large. Travel time – one and a half hours, during peak hours-longer. The buses are quite comfortable, with air conditioning, but often crowded. They run from 05:00 to 22:00 every 15-20 minutes.

  City buses depart from the opposite side of the road only from the domestic terminal T1, they do not stop near the international terminal (the exception is Route No. 86). If you leave the internal terminal on the first floor, you can cross the road, slightly bypassing the dividing fence. You can also go to the opposite side from the second floor of the terminal directly on the footbridge. On the map we marked the exact city buses stop at the terminal. Be careful: they will try to put you in a commercial bus or taxi, and convince you that the city bus is no longer there, or that the stop is very far away. Don't believe it.

  There are several routes from the airport:

  • #17 goes to Long Bien station (seemap) past the tourist area. Even if you miss the exit near the tourist area (and you need to leave after the bridge), reaching the final stop of Long Bien you can easily reach the tourist area on foot (20 minutes).   • Express bus No. 86. Makes stops near the exit at each of the terminals (stops are indicated by blue signs with the route number), goes to the lake of the returned sword (to the tourist center of the city), and uploads the route at the railway station of Hanoi. From the airport departs from 06:25 to 23:05, from Hanoi from 05:05 to 21:40 every 25-30 minutes according to the schedule.   • No. 7 goes to Kim Ma station. It is quite far from the tourist area, from there you will have to take a taxi or change to another bus.
