Pepperdine Drops First Away Game to CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team fell as CBU quickly took control of the game Sunday afternoon at Totman Stadium.

The Waves (1-3) accumulated 10 hits and debuted four different freshman pitchers in the 25-4 loss to the Lancers (2-2).

BIG WAVES

Redshirt junior outfielder Luke Pemberton (Boulder, Colo.) went 4-for-4 on the day, including a double and an RBI, kickstarting runs for the Waves in the top of the second.

Senior outfielder Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y.) entered the game .500 on the weekend and went 3-for-5 on the day also recording a double and an RBI.

Junior infielder Justin Rubin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a sac fly, scoring Pemberton and tying the score at 1-1 early in the action.

GAME RECAP

The game started with hot bats from both teams. After falling behind 0-1, Pemberton led the top of the second inning off with a single and stolen base to put him at second with no outs. Junior infielder Julian Nunez (Encinitas, Calif.) was able to advance him on a groundout to short before Rubin hit a sac fly to score him from third and tie the game at 1-1.

The Lancers heated up in the top of the third, tacking on four more runs. The Waves were able to put up another run off two doubles, one by redshirt senior Connor Walsh (Niceville, Fla.) and one by Pemberton, making the score 5-2 by the middle of the third.

CBU took control in the bottom of the third, scoring in every inning including a four-run sixth and five-run eighth inning.

Pepperdine tried to ignite a comeback with Nunez scoring off a double by junior catcher Andrew Savage (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada) in the sixth, as well as a double by Bradshaw in the ninth that brought freshman infielder Corwin Hemmingsen (Cave Creek, Ariz.) home, but the deficit proved too much to overcome.

The game ended in a 25-4 loss.
