How long will it take to get your pilot license? Obtaining your Private Pilot License (PPL) can be done in as little as 2–3 months. This is assuming you are training full-time, booking flight 5 to 6 days per week.
The CPL program entails a minimum of 80 hours groundschool and 200 flight hours. One of the biggest achievements in the CPL course is to obtain the 200 flight hours. This is the main time consuming element. Booking flights every day, a full-time student can finish the course in less than a year. Flying part time, it can take 18 to 24 months.
Note that according to Transport Canada, all professional pilot students must first obtain their Private Pilot License (PPL) before they can begin as Commercial Pilot License (CPL) students. The PPL is therefore the “prerequisite” to CPL.
The Instructor Rating training is at the student’s pace and convenience. The course will take 4-5 months to complete.
Multi-Engine rating can be completed in 4 to 7 days if full time. Multi-IFR rating will take 4-6 weeks if full time and 2 months if part time (3-2 lessons a week).
