General aviation airport located 2 NM north of Enschede city and is operated by Twente Airport BV +31 (0)6 21 342 953. 24hr PPR
First aircraft landed at the Twente airfield in 1932 after it was set up by local textile barrons. Luftwaffe greatly expanded the airport during WWII.
In January 2008, Twenthe Airbase was closed for all military and civilian air traffic and only a few flying clubs were allowed to use the field. Twente Regional Airport was re-activate in March 2017. Since then, the airport is used for aircraft testing by aerospace, defense and unmanned aerial vehicles developers.
