Built in 1944 for Japanese Imperial Air Force. After the war it was taken over by U.S. Air Force and played vital role during the Korean War. In July 1957 it was turned over to the Japanese government. Komaki Air Base ( RJNN - NGO ) was replaced on February 17th 2005 as Nagoya's premier International airport by Chubu Centrair International airport (RJGG). Its IATA code NGO was assigned to Chubu and Komaki received new code NKM. Airport lost its international status, but domestic scheduled airline service continues.
