Third oldest RAAF air base. In 1999 Laverton and Point Cook air bases were joined as RAAF Williams. The last aircraft at Laverton, a de Havilland Vampire jet from the RAAF museum fleet, departed in February 1998. Laverton site was sold in early 2000s and is in process of redevelopment into residential neighborhood Williams Landing. RAAF Williams consisted of two bases Laverton and Point Cook 8km to the south which is the oldest RAAF air base and its birthplace. |
