This connection runs deep, but the balance is delicate to maintain. But despite our deep connection with nature, human activities are largely to blame for its destruction. Human beings have a responsibility to protect and preserve nature to ensure their own survival and that of future generations. We need to rethink our relationship with living beings, educate ourselves and respect our common good: the Earth. Many UNESCO Green Citizens projects are aware of the importance of this delicate balance, and are acting on the ground accordingly. Do you want to do more too? Much guilt for the erosion of public trust in science is laid at the feet of social media. Does data support such fears? Homero Gil de Zuñiga and Brigitte Huber conducted a 20-country study examining this relationship, and their findings suggest... "it's complicated." While social media news use is positively related to trust in science, concerns about echo chambers and polarization remain valid. Additionally, they found that fake news on social media is scarce; however, its concentration and effects are concerning. The majority of fake news hits a small group of people, who are dragged into rabbit holes by algorithms and their own curation of content. But look on the bright side! There's room for everything on social media. Scientists and policymakers need to discern paths to positive outcomes. From using micro-targeting to tailoring campaigns to personality traits, there are "tricks" that can be employed. Are we ready to use them?
