Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition - Jayneivana

The Microsoft Flight Simulator team is excited to feature this storied part of the globe with sweeping improvements in this latest release. World Update XV covers Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and also includesthe Faroe Islands and Greenland (both self-governing countries within the Kingdom of Denmark). Developed in conjunction with Microsoft partners Bing Maps, Vexcel, Maxar, Gaya Simulations, Orbx, and Kjetil Garpestad, this update promises to thrill the Microsoft Flight Simulator audience with its range of enhancements:
  • 90 hand-made points of interest.
  • 10 TIN (triangulated irregular network) cities.
  • 5 hand-crafted airports.
  • Broad-based, high-resolution geographic updates using significantly enhanced DEMs (digital elevation models) in Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
  • Fresh aerial imagery and satellite data across the entire region.

Some of the Points of Interest (POIs) include Denmark’s Farø Bridges, Gråsten Palace, and Ribe Cathedral; Finland’s Bengtskär Lighthouse, Kökar church, and Tähtiniemi Bridge; Greenland’s Arctic Station, EastGRIP, and Summit Station; Iceland’s Knarrarós Lighthouse, Laugardalsvöllur Stadium, and Ólafsvíkurkirkja Church; Norway’s Andenes Lighthouse, Gjemnessund Bridge, and Svalbard Global Seed Vault; and Sweden’s Älvsborg Bridge, Arctic Space Centre, and Aurora Sky Station.

The TIN cities in World Update XV include five in Denmark: Aarhus, Copenhagen, Frederikssund, Odense, and Roskilde; four in Sweden: Gothenburg, Linkoping, Malmö, and Visby; and Norway’s Oslo. In addition, Gaya simulations created a splendid array of airports: Iceland’s Akureyri Airport (BIAR), Norway’s Mo i Rana Airport (ENRA), Sweden’s Kiruna Airport (ESNQ), and Finland’s Ivalo Airport (EFIV). Kjetil Garpestad created a stunningly realistic rendition of Leknes Airport (ENLK).

World Update XV: Nordics & Greenland also brings simmers ten exciting activities that will inspire and challenge, including:

  • Four discovery flights: Bergen (Norway), Gothenburg (Sweden), the Faroe Islands (Denmark), and Reykjavík (Iceland).
  • Three landing challenges: Akureyri Airport (BIAR), a famous challenge in northern Iceland; Ekeby Airport (ESSC), an epic sailplane challenge in Sweden; and a bold challenge at Norway’s Mo i Rana Airport (ENRA).
  • Three bush trips: the Baltic Coast of Denmark and Sweden which traverses some of Europe’s most exquisite coastal landscapes; the adventurous Greenland Exploration; and Spitsbergen, which begins with an exploration of Norway’s Spitsbergen, then crosses open water to visit northern mainland Norway.

World Update XV: Nordics & Greenland is available FREE to all owners of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Ensure that your simulator is updated to version 1.34.16.0 and download World Update XV. The sky is calling!

Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition - Jayneivana
We started the week by launching a pre-release test build (1.35.13.0) of the upcoming Sim Update 14. If you'd like to read a list of the bug fixes and other improvements in this build, please see our forum post here.Thank you to all the volunteer community members who have enrolled in the beta and helped identify bugs and issues! If you would like to opt in to the pre-release test, you can find instructions here

The beta is open to all players on PC/MS Store, PC/Steam, and Xbox Series X|S.The biggest issue we have noted from SU_14 testers so far is a regression that was causing Assistance settings to reset to default whenever launching the sim. The dev team has identified the cause of this bug and will resolve it in a future SU_14 beta build.

On Tuesday, we launched the latest aircraft from our Famous Flyers series: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries MU-2. Created by developer iniBuilds, this beautiful twin engine turboprop from Japan is sure to provide sim pilots with a thrilling flying experience. The MU-2 is available now from the in-sim Marketplace for USD $14.99.

Coming up next week are two more new releases! World Update 15: Northern Europe & Greenland and Local Legend 13: Saab B 17. Both are scheduled to launch on Tuesday, November 7. Also launching on Tuesday alongside the new World Update will be improved versions of both World Update 11: Canada and World Update 12: New Zealand.

All these releases and more are noted in the newly-updated Development Roadmap below. Another highlight on the Roadmap is our next Developer Livestream! This event will be broadcast on our Twitch channel starting at 10:30am PT (1830 UTC) on November 29th. Stay tuned for more information about how you can submit questions in advance to our panel of Jorg, Seb, Martial, and special guests.

In community news, the annual flight simulator community charity event WorldFlight will take place between November 4-11, 2023. We've just released a new Community Spotlight article highlighting this event!

Community Manager Matt "Chewwy" visited one of the WorldFlight teams to get a behind-the-scenes look at their custom Boeing 747-400 cockpit build which uses authentic parts from retired jetliners and three instances of Microsoft Flight Simulator to provide over 200 degrees of visuals outside the windows

Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition - Ink

Last week on September 28th, we released Sim Update 13. Following this release, an unexpected issue occurred. This issue prevented many players from downloading/installing content and affected both in-game updates and Marketplace content installations. After internal analysis, we determined an issue with the update service was introduced sometime after the release of Aircraft & Avionics Update 02 in June. The issue went unnoticed until triggered by a significant spike in traffic to the update servers following the release of Sim Update 13. The update servers became over-saturated with update requests, failures started to mount, and this caused downloads and installs to slow down, loop, or fail to complete.

On September 29th at approximately 0600 UTC, we deployed a server-side fix to rectify the issue and additional server-side fixes over the next 24 hours. According to our telemetry, these fixes have successfully resolved the issue for the majority of users, though we understand some players who attempted to install the update on Thursday or Friday of last week may still be struggling to successfully update their simulator. You may need to delete one or more temporary files to “un-stick” the install. Instructions for all platforms (PC/MS Store, PC/Steam, and Xbox) can be found in this post.

We want to extend our sincerest apologies for this unfortunate issue following the release of Sim Update 13. We understand how frustrating and inconvenient this situation has been and understand the time and dedication each of you put into playing Microsoft Flight Simulator. Moving forward, we are committed to working towards better prevention of such incidents from occurring. We appreciate each and everyone's patience and understanding as we worked through this issue.

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the performance and stability of Microsoft Flight Simulator, we recently announced a new public testing opportunity specifically targeted to reduce crashes on the Xbox platform. There is a new optional test build available now for players on Xbox Series X|S. This build does not contain any changes to the sim itself but does include enhanced error logging and reporting. This data is collected automatically from everyone who installs the test build and will be used to help the development team diagnose and resolve application crashes. If you are an Xbox player who would like to assist with this data collection, you can find instructions on how to download and install the test build on our forums here.

We released Sim Update 13, the next major release to Microsoft Flight Simulator, earlier today. This update includes dozens of fixes and improvements to many different facets of the sim. You can read the full release notes here. At the time of this writing, we are aware that some players are experiencing issues downloading and/or installing Sim Update 13. We are following your reports very closely, and our team is currently hard at work to resolve this issue. We will provide an update as soon as we can - please follow the MSFS Support twitter or check out the MSFS forums for the latest information.

Yesterday, we hosted our latest Developer Livestream on Twitch. If you weren't able to watch it live, you can catch up on the latest MSFS news from our panel of Jorg, Seb, Martial and special guests on YouTube here:

During the stream, the panel addressed some high-priority questions from the community, including implementing a different set of atmospheric coefficients, a topic that has been a popular point of conversation among sim pilots for the past few weeks. We also revealed some new upcoming content, such as World Update XV: Northern Europe and Greenland! Launching alongside this World Update next month will also be a new Local Legend, Sweden's Saab B 17.

Another highlight of yesterday's Developer Livestream was the unveiling of the next entry in our Famous Flyers series of aircraft, the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries MU-2 from developer iniBuilds! Last week's Development Roadmap indicated that this plane was originally planned to be released today. We don't have an exact release date to share with you at this time, but we're excited to get this beautiful light turboprop into your hands as soon as we can.

Finally, we are temporarily delaying today's new Marketplace releases until the ongoing issues related to installing Sim Update 13 are resolved. We will update this page with the new and updated Marketplace products once they are available. Thank you for your patience.

RELEASE NOTES 1.34.16.0

If you are playing on PC, outdated packages in your community folder may have an unexpected impact on the title’s performance and behavior.
If you suffer from stability issues or long loading times, move your community package(s) to another folder before relaunching the title. How to install a new update safely

GENERAL BUG FIXES
  • Several crashes have been fixed across the title.
  • Memory and FPS optimizations.
  • For the AAU_02 update, we made a change to allow control of the cursor with all joysticks, and not only with gamepad. This change had the unintended consequence of causing the central white dot to display when moving the camera or when using a joystick/mouse at the same time. To address the issue, we’ve added 2 new options to allow players to customize the cursor behavior:
  • You can access these new options from Options > General Options > Accessibility.
  • SHOW THE WHITEDOT CURSOR IN FREELOOK (Default = ON): Display or hide the central white dot cursor when the camera moves.
  • ALLOW 2D CURSOR ON ALL PERIPHERALS (Default = OFF) : ON will allow to display the 2D gamepad cursor when using other types of peripherals : joysticks, yokes, etc. When set to OFF, this will be the same behavior as before AAU_02.
  • Fixed Active Pause: now aircraft velocity and angular velocity are also frozen.
  • Added logbook compression to fix an issue where the logbook stopped recording flights after reaching 16MB limit size.
  • Fixed an issue where uninstalled standard content would automatically reinstall.
  • The dark line that appears on the horizon in some situations is now less visible.
  • Fixed localization bugs
MARKETPLACE
  • Fixed a bug preventing content bought inside the Marketplace from appearing in the Content Manager if this content was part of a non-bought pack.
MENU
  • Airports can be searched if they have special characters.
  • Fixed Main Menu tile image for Top Gun Maverick DLC that was extending beyond the tile boundaries.
ACCESSIBILITY
  • Screen Reader will now correctly narrate the highlighted option within pop-up dialog prompts (e.g. “OK”, “Cancel”, “Save”, etc).
  • D-Pad and keyboard navigation within UI menus will no longer jump unexpectedly to the Social Panel or tooltips when reaching the final item in a horizontal grid or list.
  • Logbook can now be navigated line-by-line using either gamepad D-Pad or keyboard.
  • Updated tooltip to better explain how to adjust slider or cyclic options using gamepad or keyboard.
INSTALL
  • Fixed an issue where deleting content on Xbox would delete it on PC too (and vice versa).
ONLINE
  • Fixed a bug where the user would not join a group after accepting an invitation through the platform
  • Fixed a bug where light simvar were not properly replicated
NAVIGATION/TRAFFIC
  • Fixed a bug where airplanes didn’t slow down enough to turn while taxiing.
  • Fixed a bug where airplanes performing a go-around would go in circles forever.
GLASS COCKPITS
GARMIN G3000 / G5000
  • Added support for displaying the wind vector on the Navigation Map, Nearest Map, and Weather Map panes.
  • Enabled user control of weather radar gain via the GTC Weather Radar Settings page.
  • Adjusted map and SVT absolute terrain colors to more closely match the real unit.
  • Fixed a bug where the Nav Data Bar ISA field was displaying ISA temperature instead of delta ISA.
  • FMS-managed mach speed selections are now rounded to the nearest 0.001 instead of 0.01.
  • Attempting to activate the weather radar while on the ground will now show a confirmation dialog.
  • Tuned autopilot VOR/LOC intercept behavior to reduce overshoot in most scenarios.
  • Fixed an issue where the autopilot would be inaccurate when flying in external camera view.
  • The Navigation Map, Nearest Map, and Weather Map’s cyan selected heading line is now shown in Track Up mode in addition to Heading Up mode. The line is also no longer hidden when the selected heading is outside of the range compass’s heading boundaries.
  • ADF frequencies below 200kHz (down to 190.0) are now tunable.
  • Fixed an incorrect unit conversion that could cause the MFD navigation data bar ISA field to display incorrect values in Fahrenheit.
  • Fixed an issue where the FOB SYNC instructions would still appear on the GTC Weight and Fuel page if the page was opened after FOB was already set.
  • Fixed multiple issues that could sometimes cause the GTC VNAV page and Flight Plan Text Inset not display the correct Active VNAV Waypoint.
G1000 NXI
  • Adjusted map and SVT absolute terrain colors to more closely match the real unit.
  • Fixed a bug where the Nav Data Bar ISA field was displaying ISA temperature instead of delta ISA.
